Big Order, Global Airlines A380 News & KLM Struggles

Global Airlines, a start-up U.K.-based airline, has flown its first Airbus A380 from California to the U.K. as it gears up for a launch. Next, China Southern Airlines has announced it will purchase 100 COMAC C919 aircraft to ease capacity pressures across its network. Lastly, Air France-KLM has posted a larger-than-expected loss of 489 million euros across Q1 following higher operating costs.

Would be fantastic if Global were successful, I believe they intend to operate a fleet of 4 that's a lot of seats to fill, but the 380 is very cost effective when full and if they can offer a different experience from other mainstream airlines at a low enough price they could have a market,. Many on here won't remember Laker Airways who pioneered low cost travel from the UK to the US, he operated a small fleet of DC10s at first he was very successful he filled those new planes to the maximum with low cost 'turn up and go' service which was something completely different, unfortunately for him he was brought down by BA, Pan Am and TWA. Global could work, I wish them all success.

The A380 is not inefficient that is just plain wrong, otherwise the 747-8 is inefficient too which is even worse. Emirates has flown the A380 very successfully for years. If you can fill the plane the economics will work.

4 engined aircraft are inefficient these days. Time didn't stop since the introduction of both. Just check the 777X if it ever gets certified, it is close to the same capacity with half the number of engines compared to the 747-8. Thus far less fuel, maintenance and usually repair costs too. The 388 has an even worse problem, it's been designed with the 389 wing, turning it into a fuel guzzler. Global has to be up to the game to succeed with their specialized business model. I hope they make it.

Again, if you think that the goliath a380 is fuel efficient then you’re dreaming! That’s why the airlines either dumped the plane or plan too. Emirates is backed by an oil-rich country silly. The 747-8 is not fuel efficient either. Notice the new airliners only have two engines?

Also, the name GLOBAL in its current form looks quite amateur on the the side of the a380. What’s with all the losses (from so many airlines) when supposedly the passenger numbers are so high? China will be a major manufacturer even if they served their own market alone. Comac will (unfortunately ?) rival or surpass our current manufacturers.

The sales orders for Comac, while, most assuredly, are at the behest of the Government, may allow them to generate enough funding to aquire Boeing in 2025. Could yopu imagine a Chinese Made 737 Max 9 made with efficient, cost effective and skilled Chinese Workers? That looks to be the best route to saving Boeing, plusd the Airlines will save Capital Costs allowing those in the maginally profitable range to see higher revenues. It is an efficient aircraft, of course, otherwise airlines wouldn’t fly it. You have to look at the whole picture too and how successful airlines successfully can make it work well, yes including Emirates. Some airlines didn’t do a great job with it or slam it after fall outs with Airbus. Guess who? The 777-9 may not be as efficient since it uses a lot of classic 777 basis with a new engine and avionics, ut it will still be 10 abreast hell on an aircraft that was designed for 9 abreast in economy

Their idea is bridge of what Emirates can't cover because it's not from Dubai, so they fill in the GAP. Key will be they need to JOIN the mile program with them asap. Once that is done it will be rock solid.
