BIG Mountain Whitetail Bucks (Late Season Hunting) | 2022 Hunting Season EP.28

Ойын-сауық

With Nate's deer tag still valid, I embark on a two-day hunt with him in the snow to find some whitetail bucks. Our expectations aren't high, but we wouldn't have been disappointed if it was in the first place.

Man it’s a rough feeling . I’ve never got an elk yet (waiting on draw) but have hunted open zones , finally managed to call one in this past summer , such thick brush couldn’t really see him all that well so climber up some dead logs . There he was a nice 6x6 bull looking at me. All I could see what the neck head and rack , was maybe 40 yards out . Shot him in the neck thinking he would just drop , 180 grain 30/06. Could tell he was hit but ran off , gave him 30 mins. Went to go follow the blood and spooked him from a bed . Good blood so gave him a couple hours and continued but never found him . Spent the next weeks looking all over for any sign of him( rained pretty heavy next couple days ) but nothing . Asked local farmers (pasture within a mile from where I was ) and a few weeks later they saw him still kicking . Tough animals . Never will I take that shot again . I was pretty down about it for a while . Lesson learned

On a very cold day, I took a bad shot on a buck, lung shot. Gave him an hour, followed the very little blood trail i had, and 50 yards from where I shot him, he was laying on the ground dead. I went to pick him up, when I touched him, he jumped up and ran off. I almost crapped in my pants! Looked for him for 3 days, never recovered

Washington has some great hunting opportunities. We get one deer tag and that’s either mule deer which is a short season draw tag or a general season blacktail. There are very few whitetail and the tag is hard to get. One elk tag up to 2 bear and 2 Turkey one cougar

I'd appreciate it if you keep it to yourself. I have game cam pics of that buck. Definitely wolves and cougar back there. Hunting is a bit better on the high rd ,you bypassed at the beginning of the video ,where you seen the doe ,and your standing at the intersection of the high and low rd. That should give you enough info. That I do know that spot. I've used the same spots for glassing too. High rd about 3 mile back is pretty good glassing spot as well.

Good advice you mentioned about not practicing enough. Very sound. I practice these distances a good deal and up to 400yd offhand without bipod and rests. I have a real shooting sling as well. Practicing like that haw made me much more capable and I don't always need to hunt and peck for a position to go bipod prone or find a rest. At 200 or 300 yd it's not hard to just hold and hit pretty easy. 400yd is more difficult unsupported but with a bipod 400 500 is easy peasy.
