Big Mill System - Timberjig | Hand-held sawmill | LOGOSOL

Фильм және анимация

The Logosol Timberjig turns your chainsaw into a portable sawmill!
Have you ever dreamed of being able to cut your own lumber, but not have the land or resources to do it? This little mill can have you cutting lumber quickly and simply. Like all Logosol products, this device features simplistic, rugged, and quality design.
First advantage is that it attaches to the same two bolts that hold the chain bar to the saw. No need to drill holes for the mill in the bar!
Second advantage is that in the box with the TimberJig, there are angle brackets and screws to build a straight wooden guide rail. This rail is only used for the first two cuts, to provide a flat surface.
From then on, the TimberJig rests on the adjustable guide fence that sets the thickness of the board.
For smaller logs, we recommend that you position the log in waist height to have a good operating position.

The production quality on this instructional video / advertisement is way higher than it has any right to be. I love it.

At 7:31 and 7:37 you can plainly see that the mill/operator have produced lumber of inconsistent thickness. I operate one of these Timberjigs and have not yet been able to produce square, true lumber using the methods in this video and the owner's manual. It is handy for ripping boards off a nice true flitch or cant made my Granberg Alaska mill, but so far is not effective producing lumber from round log right through to finished lumber. I plan to investigate my guide rail, and make whatever modifications are required to get better results.

I was going to comment the same. The first two cuts of the cant are not square. If the first two cuts cannot be square then nothing else can be either. It appears that the inconsistency with thickness is too much to run through a planer at a single setting. It seems you’d have to continually adjust the planer thickness to get any uniformity. It isn’t worth it for what it produces and the added work and handling it would take to make the material useful. Oh and there is always BAR OIL on the slabs that ruins any finish or furniture applications.

@@stumpbumpers this is a bit of a zombie thread, but I just noticed your comment. I haven't used this jig in a while, but I, and woodworker friends do make furniture from chainsaw-milled wood. After planing or even sanding (my cuts are very smooth) there doesn't seem to be any issue with finishes.

@@aaron6806 Ye i was wondering the same, the little bar oil would go away with any sanding as u have to do anyway for any finished product.

Have one, but this is not a proper solution, I used it for couple of mini projects, but then later I bought the proper tool. It is annoying to fix rails to a log and it's slow and noisy. As I remember, it was also quite expensive...
