It's a bit like that in Germany. We don't really have/do small talk, so when you meet someone and say to them 'What' s up?' or' How are you doing', the will rarely reply with 'Fine' but rather with a little recounting of their day and whatever big struggle they have right now to explain to you what makes up their current mood.
