thats why i started building my own trucks a long time ago. there are still ways to side step all the bull schite... obviously going out a buying a brand new truck and side stepping is not an option for most because they have regular inspection, for others the truck is under a car note for 10 years therefore not privately owned. if you start with something that falls outside the requirements you can put whatever you want how ever you want, under the hood. Commiefornia falls completely outside these possibilities because the citizens have voted to be ruled OVER and not represented.

Diesel Podcast subscribers I need to vent a bit. I grew up in a state that was the “birthplace” of hot rods, NHRA and so many other cool things centered around the vehicle. At 15 I remember this same state implementing its first emissions test. Luckily for me I drove a vehicle that was pre 1976 or what ever year the cut off was for the test. Today at almost 55 years of age today I would have never guessed that “simple” emissions test along with California’s own CARB would snowball into what it has become today with all its strength, influence, power added to the EPA’s reach. From restrictions on certain aftermarket parts being ordered/shipped to my home (state) to the recent emissions recall notice I received from Ram, it’s my belief, this all goes back to that “simple” test back in 1984!!! This unfortunately reaches the motorcycle community or virtually anything with a fuel burning engine that’s sold to the public. Why am I saying this? Well as I said I wanted to vent but also (and maybe I late to the party) but I wanted this to hopefully be a lesson/warning for all those out there in other states. But also I say this because it’s my belief that restrictions like this stymie growth and innovation at the grassroots level. Especially for garage guys like myself who love to tinker and pass down some things to his kids. ✌🏽🇺🇸🙏

I have been in the semi truck industry for 25+ years. I work at a dealership now but have worked on all brands. The aftertreatment system is killing the trucks. The breakdowns, parts shortage and costs, and with labor rates being $200+/- it doesn't take long to build a huge bill. That cost has to go somewhere. We as the end user is who gets stuck with it. Now with shipping rates so terrible and fuel costs, companies are dying at a fast rate, and it isn't going to slow down any time soon.

I don't know if this happens on diesels, but it wouldn't surprise me. Why don't they regulate from the combustion chamber and not all the add-ons? I particularly liked the oxygen pump to take away horsepower and engine efficiency to meet the tailpipe requirements :)

Keep your oil clean, and air cleaner too ! Remember, cp4s are used in Europe and work very well as the European diesel fuel is better, higher cetane and more refined, unlike Americas diesel fuel. Have a professional fix your motor with tuning and get the best out of your trucks ! No water, no dirt and no def ! They can run so good and last a long time !

Given this conversation, this isn't just happening with diesel trucks. It's happening with tuner and modified cars as well. Literally, people are still getting tickets in places that are emissions tickets, for not keeping a car stock. Yet the emissions on the car are better than what stock emissions are required to be. From what I've seen, people are under the impression that if a car is "modified," then somehow what comes out of the exhaust is worse than what it otherwise would be. And this is not the case.

You think you have it bad, I have a 2014 Grand Cherokee Ecodiesel. The EPA mandated re-tune makes it feel like I'm towing a garbage truck behind it, and dropped the mileage at least 10%. Oh, and it also lost a rod 200 miles into a 230 mile trip and puked a couple of quarts of oil on the side of the road before being hauled to the dealer on a diesel flatbed to wait for another half ton of ore to be mined somewhere with diesel equipment before being shipped overseas to Italy to be built into another engine, before being shipped on a carrier that burns a gallon of tar sludge every 4 inches or so as it moves across the ocean (no emissions on those); before being trucked from Detroit to Florida to be installed in my vehicle. Yeah it;s a run on sentence, but it was far more annoying in real life🙂 This all happened at just under 7 years old with 64K miles on it, and only 4K miles after FCA replaced the failed EGR cooler, the melted intake, a melted valve cover, melted injector tubes and cracked turbo hoses under a recall and AEM warranty. They also hit my aftermarket warranty for $1700 to fix a timing cover leak and front main seal on it. This is my wife's car which got the oil changed every 5K (factory suggests 10K), fuel filters every 20K and wasn't used for heavy duty service, towing, etc., but did a fair number of long road trips between 50-2000 miles. It's up to around $21K in repairs paid by the aftermarket warranty. It stinks as it's a great driving vehicle, but it's the least reliable turd I've ever owned. Warranty runs out in October 14th, selling it on the 13th!

Anyone can purchase an off the shelf programmer and set it on level 1, 2, 3, tow, street, or performance setting. The tuning issues we are discussing in this video is custom tuning, where the customer calls a tuning company and say.. "Hey, I have a 2020 duramax with 60% over injectors, a twin turbo setup with dual CP3's and I need custom tunes to make all these parts play nice together." If that calibration the company sends to the end user isn't PERFECT, it can result in cracked pistons, broken crank shafts, blown up transmissions Etc. It's a really bad problem in the industry right now.

Next, I am seeing a lot of 2020,2021 trucks for sale and advertising "fresh rebuilt engine", that's literally a 2 and 3 yr old truck, maybe 500k miles with a fresh rebuild. Next, my 3 trucks are gliders, all are 12.7 detroits 1999s, all are highly modded for big power, all average at least 6.5mpg pulling flatbed and the blocks are all between 2.5-3million miles, all three engines were inframed twice, in 07 and 2014, and full out of frames in 2021. My buddy has a fleet of 389s and w900s, 2022/2023 and they've had nothing but problems with the emissions, turbos and mpg sucks.

Their physics of time, temperature and pressure dose not correlate with physics or Ideal Gas Laws. The base line coefficient of CO2 condensates at, 800 PSI @ room temp or 65 degrees Fahrenheit. To calculate that over a surface area or parts per million us this equation per ratio of atmospheric gases .7854xdia.2/PSI. You can win a court case with those equations because they are repeatable results at atmosphere absolute.

The actual law they are trying to enforce state "Any aftermarket product that alters the way the vehicle ran from the factory is illegal to manufacture, sell, offer for sale, to purchase or install." so by that definition the DP tuner is illegal, that law was written in the 60's and amended several times since then. But that's what the ePA agent stuffed in my face when they visited our shop. We have no diesel emissions here in the state of Georgia which is where Dp Tuner is located. But the EPA is enforcing federal law, not state law. So that's where we get into trouble.

@@tomwalton2872 these are fantastic questions. So the law they stuffed in my face when they visited our facility stated, "Any product that alters the way the vehicle runs from the factory is illegal to manufacture, sell, offer for sale, or to purchase or install." I in turn asked the agent if we could no longer sell 40" tires. He said it was fine, they're just tires. I replied that they do in fact re-gear the vehicle which alters the RPM at which the vehicle drives down the interstate at 70mph which alters the electronic injection timing and a whole slew of other things. His face turned red and he couldn't answer me. So do I think you are going to get pulled over and fined for what you have done to your truck? Probably not, because they don't even know what they are enforcing. They are cherry picking the low hanging fruit and going for the easy fines which is deletes on newer diesels. When that money runs out, I'm sure they will hunt you down along with the rest of us. This is a money grab and has nothing to do with enforcing laws that protect the environment. The EPA is a self funded 3 letter agency.

You might want to check your information or maybe look at the box and see where these parts are manufactured. Most of these parts come from overseas and not the USA.

We are very well aware that many of the parts we install are made overseas. They still ship into a US facility to be assembled, boxed and shipped. Those facilities shut down during Covid, I chase these parts for a living, that's part of my day to day job. I can track a FoMoCo part number for a keyless entry fob, all the way back to the internal motherboard that comes from Thailand while the housing comes from India, but the two pieces never meet until they are shipped to an assembly plant in Michigan.

Flat rate is a bad way of doing business anyway. Never take your vehicle to a flat rate shop. When working flat rate you make more the quicker you get done, so it's in the mechanics best interest to take short cuts and do a half ass job to get it out the door and make the most money. Most shops I know have gone to hourly. Flat rate is unethical imo

I did a stealth delete on my 2010 6.7. I left the CAT on. Ran better, went from 10-12 AVG to 18-22 AVG. MPG and exhaust was still clean and smelled clean. DPFs and DEF is just a scam IMO.

What is a stealth delete? I got a 2011 6.7 with shitty mpg(as you know). I am always getting p2020 code, put in new o2 sensor front and rear on emissions and still getting p2020 codes..

@@josecoronado3739 I Gutted out the exhaust, except for the CAT and left the muffler on. Plugged everything back in. If you looked underneath the truck, you would never know it was deleted. It was still just as quiet. The exhaust brake was a tad bit higher. I unplugged the EGR valve. I went with EFI live for the tune.

Why not take those pumps apart and coat the moving parts with diamond like coatings I truly believe that will make it last longer. I would get a few of those pumps in and set yourself up to do those coatings yourself. This is six in a row Jim Kennedale, Pennsylvania

The pump issue is the fuel is used as lubrication. Diesel fuel is a poor lubricant but a fair solvent.

Wear surfaces isn't the underlying problem. The problem is, there's two roller style lifters that sit in each bore, the rollers ride a camshaft lobe. There's nothing keeping the lifters from turning sideways in the bore and that's what happens. It can happen at 30,000 miles, or 300,000 miles. It's not a lack of maintenance issue, it's literally a design flaw that's just like... SURPRISE BUTT SEX!!!! I don't work here anymore and you owe me $12,000 it really does suck for us the consumer.

I just wonder if a class action lawsuit would be a good thing because I was watching this dude called Latos law he’s out of Michigan attorney anyway he was talking about what it takes to make a class action lawsuit. I think that would work because there’s no excuse for those people to send a product like that out and in the market.
