Hey Ryan, thanks for another great video. I really appreciate being on your mailing lists and KZread etc. I also appreciate the catch and release strategies you usually employ. But I just want to stick my head up again about large red emperor ( I did once one on another video where the boat cleaned up on a big red emperor slaughter) to a mixed reception and got all the usual responses about people having 20 aunts and cousins to feed and how much fuel it is to reach those spots, and weather windows and so on! ) Clearly this trip your numbers of big Reds kept matched roughly the number of participants! But as someone who has watched this kind of fishing be gradually eliminated in more accessible locations nearer to all our homes I'm concerned any time I see the big reds dropped in the icebox. If people keep seeing these areas as a cleanup area on reds it won't be preserved as what it can be now. And I wanted to ask whether your good wife Karen (any wife who puts up with the amount of fishing you do is a good wife! ) might enlighten us more on the research in Western Australia mainly conducted recently that shows these big Reds can be up to 40 or more years old. I assume similar results might be found on the east coast. It does distress me that the taking of large numbers of large fish this old is not sustainable! I have wondered whether they need a take window for red emperor perhaps with a lower and upper limit like was used for Barra once. Maybe just one fish per angler over a certain limit so we are not decimating a population that took half a century to develop. Over to you Karen (From Mark also a JCU University Medal winner btw)
