BIG BOY CHEST RIG: VelSys Pusher Gen VI
Спорт
The perfect 7.62x51mm rig for barrel chested marines and anybody wearing an IOTV. The Velocity Systems Pusher rig is configurable for STANAG mags, AK mags, or 7.62x51mm/.308 Win mags with swappable inserts, and can also carry a radio the size of a 1980s cell phone. Unfortunately you have to be shaped like a Dorito to use one properly.

Hop is the funniest guy on guntube to me, because he has an extremely dry delivery but it's interspersed with these absurd turns of phrase like "fatties only need apply" which have me cracking up.

God I love how Hop is never trying to sugarcoat every fucking thing and assure us that, "despite my couple 'minor' issues with [the product], it's fuckin' dope af and you should get one!" He just gives us an account of his experience with actually using the thing, with straightforward, unbiased details that give the best impression of what to expect with the thing. You know, the stuff you'd ask in the "Ask a question" section on the product page and wait 2 weeks for a response that doesn't answer your question.

I laughed so hard when you said the 152 is a cinder block taped to a large print holy bible 😂😂😂
Pro tip: Wear your ammo as high up on your chest as you can get it. That’s advice I got from an NCO who fought in the Battle of Wanat. I foolishly disputed him on that and wore mine low. Guess who’s back was screaming bloody murder afterwards.
Hop the true influencer. Being honest and trying to steer people away from the HSP cult.
Big green nightmare is the nicest thing I've heard about my state in a while, thank you.
Thank you for such an honest talk Yeah brother, I’m looking at those biggest pouches tucked so far back they are practically under your arms, giving you invisible lat syndrome, and I’m just gritting my teeth knowing how much I detest that bulky, crowded feeling.
I love an abundance of pistol mag pouches! Where else am I supposed to put my Spitz sunflower seeds and corn nuts?
Magcels are seething at carry all your ammo loose in a ziploc bag and feed one round at a time into the chamber chads.

Works just fine on the flat range, I’m sure it’ll transition into real life very well
I'm laughing at the PRC 152 being "the size of a cinder block" when the 119 and 117 are both man portable and even bigger
For that map pocket, get a strip of hook or loop and apply it to one side of the velcro enclosure. Itll be easier to access and cut the noise. I also found if you want to add some structure to that style of rig, you can cut a strip of corrugated plastic (aka plaatic cardboard, aka old campaign signs) to size and put it in there and stiffen the chassis. If you're into that
Wtf , this better has a Cameo or a starting role featuring Socko
Always tough for me to find a comfortable chest rig. I'm 6'2 and barrel chested. I like the old ALICE gear personally. I just like the weight distribution better I'm definitely always into trying new different gear. Thanks for the information as always.

Tracer Tactical makes modular chest rig platforms which may suit your fancy. Expensive and long wait times but the gear is very well made and highly customizable.
I am 6ft and around 160lbs, I have bought three different chest rigs from tactical tailor, of varying type, and all of them are sized so ridiculously large that even in armor I still have about a foot of slack on the back. Same issue, I can't adjust them down enough to fit, so I end up cutting and sewing one side of the back strap so that it can only buckle on one side. I imagine they size their rigs to the Bloat Lord.

Old post but consider the Haley micro chest rig. I pair that with their flat pack and it fits pretty well (as a fellow 6’ 155lb slendy boi). In my most recent vid (around the 2min mark) you can see me wearing it for size comparison
@MrVonkliest

The TT stuff really kinda…hasn’t changed since it was first designed like when everyone was wearing IOTV’s and shit. Those older body armor systems were fairly large and needed that kind of adjustment.
I’ve got the same rig- I’ve outfitted with the polymer inserts from esstac and keeps it clean to insert or draw from. The size of it hasn’t been downside for me, but I am a bit bigger. I also added a phlster floodlight inside one of the GP pouches to give me a place for a pistol- works great if you want to get stuff off your hips.
I'm convinced that god could give hop the most immaculately crafted piece of gear and it would take him all of 5 minutes to completely shit on it

Please keep us updated on your search for the best 308 chest rig. I have been looking at the Pusher as well as what TRex arms had for that caliber.
As much as it pains me, I agree the extra wide shoulder straps are just not that ideal.
I’ve been using the d3cr heavy chest rig. I love the 2 zipper pouches on it and with the plastic mag inserts it works great with 5.56 mags. It also only has 2 pistol mag holders. When I was originally picking out a chest rig I felt a lot of them just slapped to much random stuff on them and I didn’t want flaps over the mags.

Personally I look at chest rigs as quick kit. Something you throw on fast, to do short missions prioritizing light weight loads. But I've shifted some from my prior position of slick plate carriers with chest rigs over them, so this might be part of why.
I see you've upgraded your commo configuration. I've been looking at those old ef johnson radios too. Would be interesting to get another commo video from you talking about your experience with it.
I'm not sure any of these new "high speed, low drag" rigs are much better than the old LBE - A.L.I.C.E. rig I wore in the 1980s. We all end up "customizing" them anyway.
As someone who regularly shoots 5.56 .308 and x39, I really really like this chest rig. I also run a VelSys 4 mag placard on my PC and the muscle memory for both is very close to the same. I don't have a problem running it with a pack but I'm also fairly cube shaped. EDIT: You can also run that zip-top thingy in the center map pocket, that makes it really easy to get into and adds space.
Thanks for representing a slim guys' experience Hop. I think I'll abdominal carry my ar10 mags differently
The 2 smaller gp pouches fit a vortex range finder, a 20 rd ar mag, smaller notepad, lensaatic compass or suunto baseplate compass, the bigger pouch is wide enough for a protractor. This is a military focused rig for sure, and it excels at that, that said, prepared citizens should have maps and compasses etc... on their kit...
Leave it to Hop to review something that is literally in my to buy list. Excellent as always.
This is my favorite chest rig ever
Guy has the jawline of a shooter.
Damn homie looking like Solid Snake. All love Hop
Pusher isn't too wide...Hop isn't wide enough. I had the same problem with my TAPS but the Pusher is fine on me.
I love my old school Mayflower. I own a 716 as well and have not been able to find a rig I like. I’ll be following your reviews for input. I may well by this one anyway…
My recent hunt for a chest rig taught me a few things. -I definitely hate x-harnesses. I'm still trying to get around to making an H-harness for a P83. -The Esstac Chicom rig is really well made but the tall kywi type pouches are a bit too tight but they're adjustable...sort of. I love the shorter kywis though, high recommend. -I should've looked at ATS sooner. I got their Slimline rig, ranger green. Super comfortable harness, sits nice and high. I only have 4 mags a TQ on it, I don't run a radio but it has PALS on the sides for a pouch or one can use some of the sewn-in pouches. My experience with chest rigs is minimal but I found the perfect one for me. Also I don't worry about reinserting magazines, I have a small dump pouch on it.
I don't understand how Tactical Tailor seemed to go by the wayside. They have a chest rig which is basically a an entire blank MOLLE panel you can outfit with whatever pouches you want, whether TT or another make. DId me well overseas, mil and private sector.
The radio pouch is made for chonk mil radios. Try the radio in one of the mag pouches. You can fit two more mags in the radio pouch and it won't dig into your arm pit.
I have this chest rig and I don't really love it either. The width didn't really bother me but most of the negatives you mention I didn't line either (mags being difficult to draw, unable to take a dangler pouch, weird pouch layout that's too big/too small). I would also say there is no good way to carry water outside of the radio pouch so I had to choose between the two. I am now trying the shaw concepts arc chest rig which is WIDE but I can carry all I need eith big pouches and a dangler.
i got their split rig and love it, im little and it works good with some adjustments
That armpit radio placement is probably great if you do everything in the prone. Just a pain in the butt for everything leading up to aforementioned belly time
A great video.
Lbt 1961g is the best rig I've used. Gone back and forth with modular and sewn
These are great. I have one for my scar 17s rig and I can fit 6 20rnd mags in it with no problem, if you're mostly just carrying ammo obv. Yes the back strap is big. I replaced mine with an elastic strap. I have a barrel chest so no problems with pouches under armpits. The straps are wide but super comfy and you don't feel the weight of the 308.
A nice tip for the med pouch is the new bfg small tkn fits very nicely. Tuck the pushers Velcro flap in and the tkn flap operates as if it was in the tkn pouch
Really like mine. Try using the zipper top for the map pouch instead of the mag insert. Makes that pouch super useful and probably the best setup for the rig.

Surus Operations released their RECCE 2.5 that you can set up for 7.62 similar to this rig. You'd probably still have pouches under your arms, though.

Because you're skinny you just might be limited to a three-mag wide chest rig, or stacking outward. Something like the Shaw placard adapted to some expander wings could work. For stacking outward maybe a Spiritus Mk4 with two mags in the rear and two in the front, along with expander wings or their thing 2 base.
@Hoplopfheil

Almost pulled the trigger on a Haley heavy rig. 4 mags wide but all the expanded pouches are on the front. Downsides are, pistol mag pouches for no reason, and weird GP shape/size.
THANK YOU! I thought I was the only person that found the back strap way too long. I ended up sewing it back together after cutting it with Cordura thread. But holy damn that was long. (Gen V split front)

I have this exact rig for my .308 as well. I was really excited about it until I spent time in it. You highlighted every single thing I dont like it about it. I am going to get rid of it and get a Traecer Tactical rig.
You can use the supplied zipper insert on the map insert and makes it easier getting in and out of.
Ive been rocking the Split rig version. Everytime i try and or buy something else i always go back to the pusher split rig.
Note on Hypalon- According to HazMap and DuPont (who formerly produced it) it is not known to be a carcinogen, and I couldn't find anything on it being illegal. I'm probably just in denial though because all my Direct Action shit is apparently inundated with it 😬
Hey Hop, I’d recommend the Hurricane Hybrid chest rig from Direct Action if you’re looking for a new rig to play with. Split front so you can add a flat panel and easy on/off, and doesn’t glow.
I have zero intention to purchase a chest rig or 99% of the gear Hop reviews yet here I am every time he posts
I run this on my Scarab and love it
I just sold one of these and went with an Onward Research rig. For me not being in anymore, the ability to add a Nalgene pouch, a decent GP and a dangler plus 8 mags? Thing was right up my alley.
HSP Heavy is good. Ran that and the Micro with 7.62 inserts the last few classes with my FN 17S.

I use a tac tailor mav 2 piece to run 308. A bit "outdated" but mine has held up for 15 years of use and abuse.
Looking like a Call of Duty NPC and I'm all for it
I used the haley stretegics heavy rig. I find the gp pouches on there's alittle bit more useful and and enjoys ability to extend or shrink. I use it for ak and ar 10 setups. I'm 5'8 and 140 lbs and it goes under more arms alittle but can still have my arms lay flat if I want to. I also don't run my medical pouch on my rig which helps with that and run it on my belt.
Thanks for the honest review Hop. My friend has a flak from Mayflower and that has served him well, but it sounds like some of their chest rigs are a pass. That's unfortunate.
Hey I know you probably already have another chest rig in mind but try an ATS Tactical chest rig. I like mine alot. Not arm pit issues
I just got the ATS chest rig for 308. Bare bones and comfortable.
Would love to see you review Shaw Concepts ARC plate carrier and/or Chest rig.
Hop I would love if you could do a review on some of the varusteleka gear because so far it's been some of the best for me
Ive got my eyes on the direct action thunderbolt or whatever their sewn chest rig is.
I run the Haley Heavy with G-code Scorpions for my Scar. Would work same same for SR mags. Works well with several packs I use. 5’8” 160.
Those radio pouches were probably made for the 1970s-era tactical cinderblock known as the ASIP radio, lol. It would explain the excess amount of wiggle room.

I wonder how it would go if you stuffed a piece of ABS or kydex plastic sheet into that map pouch to augment how the whole thing moves. I find myself fascinated by "taco" type mag holders and how they seem to not really care what type of mag you jam into them but they also seem like a heavy/bulky option as I haven't seen anything like this Velocity / Mayflower unit that incorporates "tacos".
