Big Boy 4014 Westward Bound Tour (Day 5) Salt Lake City, Utah to Elko, Nevada (Salt Flats & Tunnel)

This is a very long day, we chased it through salt flats, tunnels and more! Here are some shots of 4014 going through the salt flats and a tunnel towards the end of the video and more! I had a wonderful time chasing the train and will continue to chase it all the way to Sparks, Nevada. Day 5 is chasing the Big Boy through Salt Lake City, Utah - Elko, Nevada. Hopefully I'll get some good shots! Hope you enjoy this video!

    Would love to see it in person but here in NJ. Tracks here definitely couldn't handle The Big Boy and even if by some miracle it could come here the crowds would be insane!

    Wow a Rebuilt Dash 9 locomotive something that’s old-fashioned but rebuilt Wabtec is doing an outstanding job rebuilding these locomotives

    @@davidng2336 I agree the fact that Wabtec is rebuilding engines as earliest as the B40-8W makes me happy to hear that these engines are getting a new chance in life rebuilt to last longer

    No it's not. It's just there to provide dynamic braking and to extend the 4014's fuel range. 4014 is more than capable of hauling the train behind it.

    @@CommercialsandMiscellaneous What you say is true. OK, I exaggerated, but the helper is also there to reduce wear and tear on Big Boy which is also a function of dynamic braking. No one is mass-producing steam locomotive parts, and each type of locomotive requires many unique parts. Brake-shoes for instance -those big drivers need custom made shoes. It's the same for any engine -the harder it's worked, the more maintenance is required, and when replacement of the bewildering array of fittings, seals, bearings, pumps etc. must be custom made the expense of maintenance can be prohibitive.     I'd sure like to know how he got from Wendover to Montello so fast! And I don't remember any tunnels between Wells & Elko! Other than these goofs, it was some nice videography.

    TOP SPEED SHOULD BE ABLE TO BE 55 TO 75 MPH. LOADED AND DUMPED WITH WATER AND OIL . OPEN THE THROTTLE. UP🎉🎉🎉
