For round balls are YOU NEED THE WRONG CALIBER TO WORK WELL. It has to do with surface area. If you dont get it over sized you won't engage rifling and get a good seal. That is why the odd caliber Korean barrel do so well with round balls. A 457 RB will work in a .454 (Casull is a caliber by the way Tom) but works less effectively in a .457 bore. Round balls are acting like bullets in airguns as compared to sub-bore size round ball in a smooth bore muzzleloader that uses a patch to seal the RB to the bore. Also if you are using a bore size round ball and pushing it with a powerful gun you may be stripping the rifling instead of engaging. I use .433 caliber (off the shelf) RB in my .429 air gun and push them almost 1000 fps. Works great, just havent had a chance to test on big game. Yes, I am currently a "vegetarian".

Good point for the big bore to the mid-low big bore. I can relate this to the low power 177 and, "magnum" 177 that i'm use to. Margin of error is a lot higher on the animal you intend to shoot if you are using the low power.

Have you gentlemen ever done a show on "blow by", (the air blowing past a pellet, that causes inconsistent fps from pellet to pellet)? I have 2 break barrel guns, (.177 and .30 cal.), and I do a trick I call "flaring the skirt", (pressing down with a little force, rub the pellet skirt in a circular motion on a plastic card table, for example "8 seconds JSB 44.74 gr. .30 cal."), and it seals the bore better, gaining not only speed, (from 550 to 570 fps), for the .30 cal., but much better in speed consistency, (which means more repeatability shot to shot). I actually lose a bit of speed with the .177 pellets I use, (JSB heavy exact diabolo 10.34 gr.), but the speed consistency is still improved. On the bigger .30 cal., it even fixes little dents. Unless they are big dents, I have pretty much eliminated "flyers". The flare on the .30 pellet will be about .020" bigger than the stock skirt diameter at the bottom, but fits into my Hatsan breach perfectly flush. I have found by flaring the skirts to prevent blow by, I get measurably better groups, especially at distance over 50 yards, and no flyers. Just use gloves and clean the table when you are done to keep the lead traces from entering your body. Try it through a crony and on the target.

Clean headshots at that range will do the job for sure! Airguns have gotten more powerful and accurate since this video released

I can't remember when, but in a few states (NY, where I am now) even outlawed the Remy .223 for deer hunting. As a Veteran, I can attest for the .223/5.56's power and tumbling ability that kills human targets, deer, and even elk with just one shot under 150 meters. Our M16's had an effective range of 500 meters, and seen Taliban being dropped like a bad habit at 600 meters with an M16 burst. Even here in NY, if you use an airgun to hunt large game, it has to be a .40 cal or more.

+Paladin Paranormal where are you getting your info from on nydec website it says any center fire rifle can be used for large game. airguns can be used for small game but they are not mentioned as a legal implement to hunt large game

TheGreenMarksman You need to do a lot more searching, such as varmint hunting: "furbearers". Furbearing: *You may hunt furbearers with a rifle chambered in any cartridge, except that during any open season for deer - including archery, muzzleloading and regular seasons - you may not possess a rifle larger than .22 caliber rimfire afield, during the day or night, to hunt wildlife, including furbearers in any county or portion of a county where deer hunting with rifles is prohibited during the regular deer season. Centerfire rifles smaller than .22 caliber are permitted.* *Air guns may be used to hunt furbearers. An air gun is defined as a firearm that uses spring or compressed air (not gunpowder) to propel a single projectile that is .17 caliber or larger and produces a muzzle velocity of at least 600 feet/second.* www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/45559.html www.dec.ny.gov/press/104508.html *The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is now accepting public comment on proposed regulation changes that would allow the use of big bore air rifles as a legal implement for taking big game* at certain times and places in New York, beginning in the fall 2016 hunting seasons, Acting Commissioner Basil Seggos announced today. DEC will accept written public comment on the proposed rule changes through February 8, 2016.

+Paladin Paranormal nowhere in this documentation does it say you cant hunt deer with a .223 in fact it says you can hunt with a .17 so long as its centerfire. it is saying you cant hunt furbearers with a legal deer rifle during deer season. also it says they are PROPOSING to change the law to allow big game hunting with big bore airguns but this has not passed yet. i think you have misread

TheGreenMarksman Can't tell if you're trolling or just stupid...I vote on both. Modern Gun All modern guns may be used during modern gun deer season with the following exceptions. *You may not use* the following for deer: buckshot in a .410 shotgun. shot smaller than No. 4 buckshot in any shotgun. rimfire cartridges, military or full-metal jacketed ammunition. *any centerfire rifle or pistol smaller than .22 caliber.* handguns with barrels shorter than 4 inches. www.agfc.com/hunting/pages/huntingregulationsdeer.aspx Also, .17 HMR is a *rimfire* cartridge, not centerfire. It's made for small or medium game or varmint shooting. Some states may allow it, most don't.
