Big Block Ranchero UPGRADED But Will It PERFORM?
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
We take the forgotten factory 429 1973 Ranchero and add some tasty upgrades, including a Quick Performance gear set for the 9" Ford rear end, a new fuel tank, a high-volume fuel pump, a hood scoop, vintage Keystone mags, and a carburetor. Then it's time to see if we can do BIGGER burnouts!

Forget satin black. Everyone does that. I’d like to see that in a satin burgundy, or satin mustard yellow, or satin dark orange. Would look pretty sweet with your logo in satin white on the side of you ask me.
It would be cool to go completely through the engine and make it into a sleeper rod. Those rims actually look nice on it. 😊

@@PoleBarnGarage a huge smile, reminiscing of great times. Can't thank you enough.
Every old Ford I've dealt with has claimed it were overheating. They just do that. They're not actually overheating, they just say they are. A factory gauge will peg hot as low as 170, and I've seen hot lights come on at about the same. The senders/switches age and don't work properly. I've also seen the cluster voltage regulator get stuck closed and make the gauge read high as well. But if that's the case, the fuel gauge will also read double.
You gotta love the design of the Ford 9 inch rear end. It was like Ford made them with racing in mind. You can have 2 or 3 third members with different gearing ready to change out in minutes.
Those tires don't look half bad brother. Definitely an upgrade 👍👍

good thing that speedo reads high now, with the changed gears and smaller tyres 😉😉😉
Thanks for the Fun Facts about the Starsky and Hutch Torino. I figured there was something going on with that Malaise era car burning out like a dragster. Of course they used special gears to make it burn out. I am loving those new tires and wheels. That Ranchero is looking really cool. I also like those 68 Mustang Scoops. and satin black is perfect. I would also try to find some fake wood trim to make the driver side look like the drinker side.
Great to see JD helpin’.. I recon the Ranchero Ute is awesome. Very similar to our Aussie XA XB XC Falcon Ute, our utes ran leaf springs in the rear. If the engine is a turd, maybe a 351 Windsor might be a nice “upgrade”. 🇦🇺🤙🏼

If you decide to keep the Ranchero, it would definately need to be painted. That would make a world of difference. The wheels are OK since they're chrome, but you're right in the fact that it needs taller tires.

The wheels were a great upgrade for that price. A set of pop ups or a junk yard turbo feels correct for that cruck. Fleet is getting big, congratulations.
You know since becoming a Jaaaaag owner Dalton is really beginning to lose touch with the common man... I mean there's no way any of us could afford a $5 scoop & $10 of fibreglass putty. 😂 I was going to comment on a previous Ranchero video that it sounded pretty rough at higher rpms. I'm concerned that when the previous owner fitted the cam he did the right thing and completely ignored upgrading the valvesprings to suit. It's a common issue with Cleveland V8s here in Aus and if you feel motivated could be an interesting video for the channel.

Interesting fact. The wood grain starting in 73 was semi transparent so the color partly shows through. They mentioned this as a new feature in their ads. I am not sure if it is a good thing. According to the interwebs, the hole closer to the fulcrum on the accelerator provides a bigger shot, not the one farther. And that makes sense to me.

That Holley you took off was the 4010 series they put out in the early or mid 1990s. I guess they didn't sell well because they weren't around for very long. I bought one and they all came with annular discharge boosters and were offered in 600 and 750 cfm. The 4011 series was the spreadbore and came in either 650 or 800 cfm I believe. The last time I looked rebuild kits were still available.

Freshen the old motor up! Up the compression, headers, and matching cam. Top it off with Matt black paint to make your wheels stand out. You have a great start. 👍👍
