I was once a technician in radio broadcasting and worked many name band remotes in the ‘40s and ‘50s. I had tape recordings made after our station acquired a Magnecorder, but I used the same tape over and over as the cost was $5 at a time I was making $1.25 an hour. So what I ended up with was the last broadcast I did; Ralph Flanagan in December 1950. I now wish I was not so tight with money. 🎉

Amazing to think that all the big hotels had their own bands and crooners at one time. Now they’re such a rarity anywhere, the pleasure of hearing this wonderful music played so beautifully is almost indescribable. Thank you so much.

Many would argue that it is in fact also classical music. At least this sort of music blurres the lines. Ravel always said that the Americans don’t take Jazz music seriously enough.
