BiFRC 9 Gear Spot Welder Review

If you are new at spot welding this video is for you. I am new too and just learning my way through battery pack building... which eventually leads you to spot welding. A few days ago I reviewed the Kerpu branded spot welder on KZread and Amazon. THAT unit was just not strong enough. I returned it. However, I was quite surprised by this unit. It performed SO MUCH BETTER! I will leave a link below for the product bought on Amazon. I receive no affiliate funding in any way for this. This is my review and not influenced by anyone.
I started this out on 6 gears, which worked well for the thinner .12 nickle strip that came with the device. You will see that when I tried .15 I did have to turn it up to 9 gears. I am keeping this one. I do not know how this will hold up long term but I like it so far. :-)
As always, constructive criticisms or suggestions are encouraged. If you are here to hate, please go someplace else. Thanks for watching! :-)

Good review Sid. I appreciate people like you taking the time to do the reviews. A lot of us lay backs benefit greatly. If you don't mind I would like to add a few words. This same welder can be found under various names with and without a display. Also some with no name. A display is a plus...no guessing as to why it's not working. The one drawback to these units is that they use a 5000 to 5500mAh, high C, 1S (4.2v max) battery which is very difficult to find and pricey if found...upwards of $30 to $40. By default not the highest quality battery is included, which may explain why some people encountered problems after a short time. I would recommend a unit that uses a 2 or 3S battery which is more common in the RC world and thus lower in cost. Maybe look at a unit that uses an external battery which will offer more options. Also, stick with pure nickel strips. A lot of these units come with nickel plated steel strips. The nickel plating is blasted off by the weld and rust will eventually set in around the weld. If unsure whether they are plated or pure nickel, simply bend the strip with little effort and if it stays bent, it's nickel. If it tends to spring back it's plated steel.

Always remember to change the thickness of the Ni strip depending on the current of the battery pack. Drill repairs will draw significant current and the matter needs some thought. Great video and well done. Stay safe out there.

Wow, that thing actually works? The only familiarity I had with spot welding before was in regards to a much larger machine. I wanted to build a power bank into a .30 cal steel ammo can. Or 50 cal/M80 depending on a project I have planned. I was going to just solder it, but there's very little information about controlling resistance in the battery because I guess these are the things people use instead. It makes sense. Great video btw, I'm going to order me one of thse things.

I have this Bifrc dh20 pro spotwelder. One thing i know is.. that the included nickle steel plate 0,12 x 8mm strip can be spotwelded fairly easy..My previous ebike battery.. the voltage is sagging allot, maybe because i only used a sing ,012mm strip.I've seen your vid but im still doubing about 0,15 mm pure nickled strip. Will it be powerfull enough to do the job. Maybe its a better option to just put 2x 0,12mm strip on top.

I just bought this Device for $39 and am very happy with it. I previously bought a cheaper one that had a Case that was too large and was therefore poorly made. This is super compact in an Aluminum Housing and comes with a Storage Box. The Workmanship is also very good and with the Seller's Price Offer from $41 to $39, it was a great Offer that I accepted immediately. Can only recommend buying this rather than a cheaper one.

Thanks for the video. Some folk make it look easy. But it seems that there are a lot of variables - the gearing and capacity of different machines - state of charge - tip size/shape - pressure AND angle of contact - thickness of strip and base you are welding it to. Gearing seems to be a euphemism for current duration. A few machines do have LCD display showing actual milliseconds but as all do not it is like comparing apples and sausages. Other videos show similar packs doing dozens of welds of 0.15 to battery bases. Shame as I ‘only’ need to fix two tabs BUT they are 0.3mm.

I don’t understand the test about ripping the tab off. I know the ‘correct’ settings will make it so that the strip cannot peal off and will leave spots on the battery, however why is it so extreme? Even the ones that aren’t as strong that can be ripped off seem to have good contact. And you never carry batteries by the nickel strip, that’s always protected by the case
