I’m almost 70 years old now, Reverend Ed, and I have seen much in that time. I used to be an optimist; now fluctuate between pessimist; from hope for a better future to despair 😩 in what I see occurring presently! I haven’t given into 😡; fear 😨; nor paranoia, but I see humanity having to make a choice; cooperation as a species or slow degradation; ending in possible annihilation if we aren’t careful ! When I get like feeling like this; I turn to the Bible for comfort; and to soothing hopeful and uplifting music ( Mostly Rock and Roll music; and some country as well ) and it helps me remain calm 😌 in this world!

If the Almighty declares it can be done, who are you to dispute Him? (In the 30th chapter of Deuteronomy, G-D declares that WE CAN fulfill the commandments. And if we slip, and then repent, HE wipes the sin away -- no animal sacrifice or Temple required.) In the mystical part of Judaism, it is taught that the cycle of reflecting and repenting actually converts the former sin(s) into a blessing -- not mere forgiveness.

"Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable." -- John F. Kennedy, 1962. Netanyahu's ultra right wing government has been making life rougher and rougher on people in Gaza for 16 years now. It finally hit a breaking point when Hamas hit back. I don't agree with terrorism but when you leave people NO choice, when people have NO voice, when people have no other alternative? They will fight back. And history shows this over and over and over again. Yes, Israel has a right to exist. So does Palestine and I'm for a two state solution which Netanyahu is completely against because he doesn't want to have to deal with a legitimate state. He's rather call them all terrorists and be able to do what he wants - and that is contrary to a peaceful solution. I'm not blaming the average Israeli person, I'm blaming their government just like I blame the US government for so many woes inflicted on the world, going back as far as I can think. We've done a lot of wrong and We The People need to admit this (sadly there are a bunch of people in the US who want to rewrite history taught to kids so they never know), and we need to Do Better going forward. And we need to have a two state solution so we can have talks between nations, not between a nation and a group of people who have no one to speak for them except a terrorist organization. It may not end war there, but it stands a stronger chance than "back to the way things were" and the people of Palestine still don't have a legitimate voice.

I understand those who want to protest vote, against the atrocious behaviors of those at war, but, unless those that are fighting want peace, can agree to peace, and make an effort towards peace, our actions will not get the results you're looking for. Voting for Trump, or not voting because you think you're sending a message, will not get you the results you're looking for. It won't get better under a different administration, especially one that was plagued with scandal like the Trump administration.

I just can't imagine any lasting peace without instituting a Two-State Solution. Having said that, I can't imagine Gaza remaining a Palestinian stronghold. How would that work, logistically and sustainably? Instead, it seems more logical (at least to me) to make the West Bank the new State of Palestine, with Gaza reverting back to Israel. That would include the Israeli settlements in the new nation. Those people would either have to repatriate to Israel, or become Israeli Palestinians.

Very good point - Peace comes from being in a state of trust, and vulnerability. Healing. True in families *marriages and divorces*, between family members, communities, and between nations and peoples. It needs to be its own bumper sticker. “Si quieres la paz, lucha por la justicia.” - Pope Paul VI "If you want peace, work/fight for justice' lucha is 'fight' or struggle trabajar is work as compared to the phrase in latin "Si vis pacem, para bellum" - if you want peace, prepare for war I am only an English speaker but it rings so much truer in Spanish - lucha-fight for justice,. Did he say it first I dunno. I think originally saw it JP II name next to it. I am sure a lot of people have said it over and over in many tongues. It is what comes after the comma that makes a difference and the attitude of the heart. I saw the first quote on a bumper sticker in the 80s.

Trust and vulnerability, but also imagination. As a facilitative mediator, I found if parties can enunciate even one common goal, the discussion can proceed with something akin to trust and vulnerability, although the chemistry can be mysterious. It’s like having a destination and figuring out a road map everyone can live with to get to the destination.

I do agree with you that the peacemakers are probably the most courageous people. However, about trusting the "enemy" (I don't like that word)- when you deal with certain people like psychopaths or sociopaths, who create war (I'm thinking about Putin), I'm not sure if it's wise to trust such individuals. It's a really tricky and difficult issue. On one hand, I'm all for trying ways to find peace, on the other hand I do believe we have to be careful and guarded sometimes as well. Otherwise we might give manipulative, cruel and selfish people even more power.

  • @j.r.1823

For me, I can trust God and that God's love is bigger than all pain, but I wouldn't trust manipulative, mentally ill people. In fact, I think that too much trust into such individuals is the cause of a lot of (unnecessary) pain and conflict. So promoting trust into other humans, especially the ones who create hate and war, can actually be a dangerous thing in my opinion. In my opinion, if we could all see the signs of manipulation, narcissism etc. and had a better understanding of psychology and underlying reasons of behavior, that's the way to move forward for humanity.

  • @octavianpopescu4776

I agree. Especially since I'm Eastern European and it's clear to me that putin can't be trusted at all. He just wants to conquer us and rob us, like his predecessors did, be it in the form of the USSR or the old Tsarist Empire. We've been invaded from all sides and at least the Ottomans (Turks), who we've fought for over 500 years until my country won our independence, gave up on their plans to conquer us and guess what, our relations with Turkey have never been better. I want to bury the hatchet, I want to leave the past behind and let go of the wars and hate, but sometimes the past won't let you go. And what do you do then? My grandmother had to hide from their soldiers in WW2. They'd break into people's homes to steal things or alcohol and looking for women and children to r**e. This is how they wage war. There is no Geneva or Hague Convention to defend you. They're like locusts, destroying everything in sight, friend or foe (yes, they also did things like this to their own people and to allies like the Poles, not just to their enemies). Sometimes, military victory is the quickest way to peace to minimize suffering, to knock the delusions of grandeur from wannabe world conquerors. Only then can we really build a long lasting peace.

I concur for example germany gave hitler to much power he ended up taking over government then Czechoslovakia was given to hitler as a way to appease him for peace he used those citizens to continue to fight another country and so on, theres always going to war cause until diplomatic overtures are the first normal actioninatead of going to a action of war to become a important individual and retain power wealth than I'm unsure how lasting peace can happen I mean look at putin he pulling countries into war to look like tough leaders instead of saying that I mad a horrific attacks fir nothing, but now hes pulling in small Asia countries who want to believe they are going to be main players in world stage and yet 55 years ago their citizens and their countries dealt with wartime actions.

"Blessed are the peacemakers" means that if you create peace, you are creating more of God. If you create peace, you must become peace. This is God's will for you: peace, joy, love, because thats what He is. Conflict is fear and peace is Love. The earth is full of conflict, yes, but the potential for Love is in everyone. Everyone. This verse encourages us to become peace, to become Love. The only way to fill the void of fear. The only way to create peace is to become it and then give it away. I can't see Hamas leaders and Israel's leaders doing that, can you? Or any nation's leaders, for that matter. But the Palestinian and Israeli people can. And so can you and I.

The bible says there will ALWAYS be war, but it also says that the people who try to make peace are "children of god". Yet I constantly hear that "we are all children of god". Does this not short circuit tour logical senses, or do you just "not think about it", and PRETEND that it doesn't actually matter if you're god CAN logically exist or NOT? AGAIN, I apologize for my blunt, and probably "offensive" wording, but I don't want to write a novel in order to ask one simple question. Thank you.😔🫴

I find it wise to question these things. We were created in a way that involves thinking, and i think we were meant to use that faculty, not just rely on blind faith. There are a lot of things in the Bible that are contradictory -- and while I like what Rev Ed makes of the scriptures, he has to leave a lot of that out to do it. Meditating on it, seeking secular looks at scripture (not apologetics, which just twist logic into the pretzel of their choosing) can help with this. Wishing you a fruitful journey.

I've had family and friends turn their backs on me, and I've had what I considered meaningful relationships end over what words were spoken in haste. I feel compelled to ask you to choose your words more carefully in your future videos. I may not believe in a god, but I DO believe in your intentions to help others. You're a good person. Follow the money. Those "conservative" pastors who preach that Jesus needs your money over their massive TV and radio empires are also the ones who use those offerings to buy private jets and obscenely expensive mansions. Look at all those who preach "prosperity gospel", such as Joel Osteen, Creflo Dollar, Kenneth Copeland, Paula White, Benny Hinn, and even Oral Roberts... how much of the money they obtain goes to helping the poor? How are they following and honoring Christ with their lavish lifestyles? They don't even pay income taxes, but lately they preach hate towards those of us who rely on social services, and the social security that we _paid for_ as if we don't deserve to exist. Why do they say hateful things about the wealthy Christians who DO give their money to help those in need, such as Dolly? In 1994, I was a member of a "megachurch", but when I asked the minister to pray for the safe return of my son, he suggested that I was being "punished" by God, and refused my prayer request. My son was abducted by his deranged father in 1993 (yes, I was still married to his father when he decided to steal a truck, $45,000, and our baby). My ex left a note behind, saying he would kill "the child" if the police came after him. A deacon of the church told me to stop talking about my baby, because "you know he's in a better place, in Heaven with Jesus now", then the jerk told me I should date HIM, now that I'm "single and childless". I never went back to that church. In contrast, my cousin and her husband were pastors at a small country church in Oklahoma. When I visited their church, the entire congregation prayed for me and my son, hugged me and cried, but all assured me that he was safe and would be found. They kept praying, until one day he WAS found, horribly abused but alive, and his father went to prison. My mom and dad drove me and my now 2 year old son (missing for a year) to Oklahoma so that those sweet faithful folks could meet the little boy they'd been praying for. What a party! I was overwhelmed with the love we received, the church was packed, as word had gotten around and more than half the town came to celebrate the good news and answer to prayer. That was one day that I got to experience such powerful Love from people who practice their faith from their hearts, not their bank accounts.
