Under "modern monetary policy," taxation, interest, etc are all methods of sponging money back out of the system to control inflation. The problem is that those things have significant impact on the economy, so using them aggressively creates depression. There's no way to take money out of the economy at anything like the rate they're putting it in without crashing the whole system.

It used to just be money would be created when banks give out loans and mortgages, now, the Governments of all modern monetary theory countries still make new money for lending to banks so they can create mortgages, but also print a tonne for itself, to buy its own bonds, so it can just spend as much as it likes on all the regular stuff, plus the woke stuff, the BS stuff, and backhanded deals, etc. Yet, can't fix the potholes in any nation...

Oh dear. Congress and the President determine how much money is to be spent and authorize the US Treasury to print bonds, which they sell to whomever wants to but them. The bonds usually offer an interest rate lower than the rate of inflation, and can actually make money over time. Bonds are a savings instrument, so they don't add to inflation immediately like printing cash. Second, it is the Federal Reserve, not the Treasury, that prints dollars. The Federal Reserve can only print dollars to buy US Treasury bonds. When inflation is high, the Fed raises interest rates and sells bonds to take money out of circulation, and in a recession, the Fed buys bonds and lowers interest rates to infuse cash into the economy. He is right when he says we won't go bankrupt because we can print money, but printing bonds and spending the money raised will eventually cause high inflation. He also mentioned MMT, Modern Monetary Theory, which AOC ascribes to. It says, "governments should print money to achieve full employment and fund purchases." That causes inflation, which we are seeing now. It misses the point that the value of our money reflects the goods and services the American people produce through work.

Your last sentence just negated everything else you articulated, and I'll add one more thing that WILL be our demise. There will be less incentive for countries to purchase our treasury bonds as other currencies emerge to be used in international trades for global commodities (which we're woefully short on) and even LESS incentive to buy bonds at interest rates that favor the U.S. When, not if, that happens the dollar will become the quarter.

We actually don't print our own money. We borrow our money from the Federal Reserve....which is a private bank that is not a government agency. We haven't printed our own money since we removed it from the gold standard. Our cash used to be backed up by Federal gold reserves, but is now borrowed from a private conglomerate that uses "trust" to back the validity of its value. Printing more money makes it worth less than face value and causes inflation. The less money in circulation makes it worth more. Digital currency actually makes things worse because banks can adjust monetary values based on their needs.

Yeah, that's so 1990's model. We moved past all that right after W. Bush & Obummer took office. There's no order in D.C at all anymore and they've grown sloppy. The "trust" or promissory ideal of currency backing is a thing of the past now, and the only reason the dollar isn't the penny is because it's used as a weapon with slightly over half of them being used in international trades. For now. BRICS nations are growing and more and more local currencies are replacing the role of the dollar in trades, and when we get below 50%, we're FUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGED! Don't even get me started on commodities. For the honest or non-delusional there's no light at the end of the tunnel.

The govt isn't printing the money, a private corporation prints it and the government pays interest on the denominations printed on the paper currency, which costs a few cents to print regardless of denomination. How can this expert not know the government doesn't print money?
