BIDCO Africa embarks on a project that will see Kenya start palm oil production

Ойын-сауық

BIDCO Africa has embarked on a project that will see the country begin production of palm oil. The firm is set to construct a factory that will process the palm oil grown by farmers in the western part of the country. Already Homabay county is among the first counties to welcome the project which is set to change the lives of farmers in the country as well as impact on prices of cooking oil in the country.

..oh.. but they will. It is in their DNA. Qatar Airlines, one of the biggest airlines in the world wanted to set up a regional hub in JKIA a few years ago. This would have come with money to construct new terminals, maintenance hangars and a general upgrading of Nairobi into an international class airline hub. Some greedy government officials demanded 50% of the proposed investment capital for them to allow the airline in the country and that is how we lost that golden goose. Of course non of those thieves paid the price coz those orders came from the top.

Convert the five sugar companies to growing palm oil . Using existing factories to set up processing of palm oil. Sugar farmers in western need to move away from sugar cultivation and into growing palm trees. Leave growing of sugar to the remaining private companies in western and shift growing of sugar to coast region where it takes 9month to mature as opposed to 12 months in western, galana kulalu and some parts of rift and narok can be the new sugar producing areas.

Am not from western but your idea is a little radical.😅 Instead of adopting palm 🌴 oil just like homabay , why not talk to your leaders to establish SUGAR BEET. it matures in 5 months, it's high in sucrose. Farmers will be harvesting twice in a year, consumers will get cheaper sugar and KRA will get their taxes and the government will not use foreign reserve for importation.

@@kabuthakabutha9472 Trying to get consumers to change from a product they have been consuming all their lives that they have had no problem with and then tell them we have a better sugar replacement because it is easier to produce is problematic as we have seen with the case with trying to get kenyans to substitute eating Ugali for other grains. its like telling Kenyans to change from eating ugali and substitute it with another grain because it is easier to produce and that has not gone down well with consumers who insist they must have their ugali. Also, sugar beets has slightly different properties when it comes to baking bread and cakes that make it not palatable for baking. Old habits are a hard nut to crack especially when it comes to food.

High on promises but always ends up as slavery, just like in sugarcane farming. Farmers ought to seek consultancy services from independent agents, seeing that they carry the highest risk and enjoy the least benefits. There will always be risks, hence the need to plan for their mitigation even before the project kicks off. Palm oil from Asia is extremely cheap, and farmers cannot rely on tariff protections to survive.

Western Kenya already grows palm trees and process the oil. But for decades the cartels have enjoyed 90b import market so why grwo palm oil in Kenya. Now things are changing thanks to the ruto govt. Kenya can grow any plant, crop it just takes leadership. It takes putting farmers into groups or cooperatives for economies of scale provide them with good seeds to grow one crop and have processing farcilities. if 200,000 farmers grow an acre of palm oil in their land thats 200,000 acres of palm oil. You replicate this with any crop all over Kenya just have a database of all farmers and focus them to grow one crop be it sunflower, canola, coconut, wheat etc

I support the project but I still see exploitation of the farmers because how can a killo of this product go for 35 Kenya shillings and a litter of the same oil goes for 800shs in the market. If you know you know 😅😅😅😅 my suggestion is before our farmers start planting the said cash crop they should have a strong Union that signs a win win contract with the so called company to prevent exploitation ama vipi wenzangu????😅😅
