Bible Overview: What is it all about?

One of most complicated aspects of the Bible is that its books are not arranged in a chronological order. Grouped instead thematically, you get all of the historical books first, followed by all of the prophetic books, then the writings, and so on. Many have little understanding of how they fit into the overall context of salvation history. What is the essential narrative of the Bible and how can it be read in chronological order?

    Great content once again, father. As I watched I kept thinking that some (surely not all) RCIA classes and other things as such don't touch simple points like this, let alone more profound and intricate themes. The crisis in catechesis is something that can be seen in "craddle catholics" who have no idea what the faith is about. It's heartbreaking, but videos such as yours shed a little light on the vacuum of introductory faith explanations. Iniciatives like these are more needed than ever.

    That was quite enjoyable and educational...would love a longer version where you go into more depth of all the main characters in the story of Salvation history and maybe point out how so much of the Old Testament was blatantly pointing to or foreshadowing Jesus and the future Sacraments of the Catholic church.

    Something like this. Do not take the ability to find such a straightforward and summarizing Sacred Scripture. Do not take for granted that we live in a time such amazing gifts are available that so many of our forefathers would have travelled possibly for years to find in some ages. We must use the ubiquity of information to rise in wisdom and strive in holiness as we have never before. Let us seek our Lord and our Most Holy God sharing our gifts as one as we never could have across the world. We can overcome distance, language, storage of wisdom and time barriers now. Why are we not utilizing this to tge fullest potential to reach to one another and out into the world? We must go forth! God has granted us these unimaginable boons and we squandee them with infighting and distraction. Let us be tge People for God's Own Possession by showing we actually want to be His. Let us sanctify cyberspace and spread Christ's Eternal Kingdom across the entirety of the Earth! Because, we can and therefore we must! God bless you, dear reader and grant all Christendom with the eyes to see the magnitude of what we have been truly granted and what He now demands of us in using the opportunity that it is. Through our Blessed Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! Amen!

    As Muslim, we believe that Noah , Abraham, Lott , Jacob , David were prophets of God and they were sinless and completely obedient to God , that’s why they were prophet . But, unfortunately, the Torah accuse them to lying and lust , such as : 1- Abraham introduced his wife as his sister to Pharaoh to save his own life and he lets pharaoh be with his wife . 2- Lott slept with his own two daughters and got them pregnant. 3- Jacob with the help of his mother, deceived his father and lied to him to get the blessing. 4- Jacob introduced his wife as his sister to pharaoh to save his own life and he lets pharaoh be with her . 5- David was in love with a married woman and had plan to kill her husband to get marry her . Question is : if you accept them as the prophet of God , How can you believe and confirm these accusations ? I need to let you know that Islam doesn’t accept any of these accusations, and these accusations are clear evidence that the Torah has been distorted. Second Question is: why did ancient rabbis accuse the prophets and then distort the Torah ? Answer is: Those rabbis were hypocrites , they wanted to allow themselves to commit the same sins to achieve their goals in any way , by accusing the prophets .

    I don't think that Christians and Muslims would agree that prophets are sinless by definition, or that they need to be. I highly doubt that whoever wrote the accounts of these men would include their sins so that that the writers themselves could say "see? those great men sinned so I'm in the clear." It seems pretty clear that Israel as a nation, throughout the Bible, identifies itself and humanity as fundamentally broken and self-redemption is impossible, and not in a way that excused anyone of their actions. It doesn't seem likely that a nation would fabricate its own history as a history chuck-full of embarrassingly immoral fathers, and the writings of the later prophets (Hosea and Jeremiah, especially) confirm that they viewed their own sinful history as inexcusable before God, and something that God offers redemption from despite the failures. Therefore, God and His righteousness are expounded and uplifted, and man and his follies are grounded in their proper place as evil. It's fundamentally a demonstration of God's character, justice, and compassion that culminated in Christ's life, death, and resurrection on the cross. It's not as you say, but the opposite.

  • @matozec9177
    @matozec91774 жыл бұрын

    Casey, your statement that the opening section of the Bible [i.e. the Old Testament] is "very MYTHOLOGICAL in nature" is actually a blasphemous statement. Why? Here's why. Your church teaches (and you obviously agree with it) that God did NOT create the world and the first human couple (Adam and Eve) in 6 literal days (i.e. 6 24hr periods). Your church and you teach that Adam and Eve, and consequently Cain, Abel and Seth were not real, historical persons, but only symbolical characters. I also believe that your church rejects historicity or at least doubts the historicity of the first 11 chapters of Genesis. So, for you and your church, Noah also never existed and the Bible's narrative of the global Flood and Noah's ark is also nor real--never happened. Right? Yes Casey, you did say that this part of the Bible was "VERY MYTHOLOGICAL in nature". So if you and your church are right, than the book of Genes is largely just a collection of "myths". A "myth" is a story that is not real--an invented narrative. Or in other words: a LIE. Now I am sure you know, Casey, what is written in Exodus 20:11. Surely you must be aware that in Exodus 20:11 are recorded the VERY WORDS of GOD which He thundered from atop Mt. Sinai, as He was giving His people His Moral Law: the Ten Commandments. He said and wrote--in STONE-- the following words: "IN SIX DAYS"--not in millions of years!!! So Casey, dear young man, DO NOT CALL GOD A LIAR!!!!! It's not a good idea. It's SCARY!!!!!! Furthermore, if God used the (imaginary) process of "evolution" to create the world and the first humans, that means that DEATH existed BEFORE the first human SIN!!!!!!????? So, according to you and your church, DEATH did NOT come to this world as a result of Adam and Eve' sin, but God created the world with death, disease and suffering already in it!!??? In other words, God created an imperfect world. But, dear young friend, these ideas contradict with what we read in the Bible. And therefore, we see here yet another BLASPHEMY of your "church". I said, "yet another" because your church's teachings contain many blasphemies. But I will not elaborate on them here, because I would never finish. I advise you too have a long hard look at your church. Start by studying the Old Testament book of prophet Daniel (a book that your church "loves" soooooo much). Start with chapters 2 & 7, for they are VERY important, because they give you the basis for further study that will reveal the true nature of the organisation that you call "your" church. Then you will be able to move to that another book that your church also hates (with passion)--the New Testament book of Revelation. The name says it all--it REVEALS. It reveals truth. It unmasks your "church". It strips her naked. See Revelation, chapter 17 (chapters 13 and 18 are also very interesting). You do know that in Bible symbology a "woman" represents a church, right? Surely you must know this. Dear Casey, I pray that you open your eyes and see the real truth. May the Lord have mercy on you and guide you to His Truth. In Jesus name I pray. Amen. Revelation 18:4.
