I lost my daddy to cancer a little over 3 months ago. While driving the 16 hour drive home, this song shuffled into my random pandora play. I absolutely lost it somewhere just into Montana, still 5 hours from home. To this day, I cannot listen to this song without breaking down. Such an eloquent way to memorialize such a special man to any child.

After dad passed i had to pickup his toolbox from work . I about broke down when i saw the old pictures of us kids stuck on the the inside cover. He always made sure we never wanted for anything 46 years he was a diesel mechanic. Raised a good family put his kids through school and was the first one there if we needed help. mom and him were married 45 years.

When I doubt myself I have to come listen to this. I want my wife and kids to feel about me the way you felt about your old man! I want to be "the kinda man it feels good to be around". This is one of the prettiest songs ever written. Thank you

I believe that's about the prettiest thing I've ever heard! Goodness gracious that hits an old country boy right where it counts!

Ashley, thank you for writing and recording this for us. My daddy passed away suddenly in 2012 and until today, I’ve never heard a song that I can relate too that makes me think of him. I know this song means so much to you and I just want you to know it means the world to me. Again, thank you.

God, this woman just described my dad without the guitar and the 44 was a 38 special. Thank you. Moved me to tears as I lost him this year.💜💜💜

I lost my father when I was 15. I’m 33. He taught me the best things about life, yet I struggle. I miss the simple things and joy. I miss him so much. I love being able to watch our videos in the hunting shack. I remember seeing him

The lines "He had a southern drawl like a redbone hound" and "He'd see thru a lie like an old screen door" are just song writing gold. Just a few words that paint such picture. Great song delivered perfectly.

I have my daddy's Bible & 44. He carried both every day. He died a little over a yr ago. He gave both his Bible & 44 many yrs ago so I would have them. I miss that man & I always will. Thank you for such a good song about such great dads.

You never get over losing your father. I was just ten years old when my father died of a heart attack at age 43. I still miss him. I always will. Love this song!
@itsbrytuhknee
When my Dad was sick a great friend shared this song with me. It helped me so much through his passing and even over two years later. I come back and listen to it. “I’m holding more than strings and wood.” Hits so deep.
