Biber: Passagalia, archlute arrangement
Музыка
This is my own arrangement of Biber's famous violin solo. My arrangements can be found on my page www.cs.helsinki.fi/u/wikla/mus...
My performance is just unpolished and un-virtuosic, made mainly to myself... ;-)
The archlute is made by Stephen Barber 1987. Arto Wikla 24.6.2008.

This is perfect! I found your six-course arrangement so good!
Very good sound. Thank you a lot for your music.
Thank you for your arrangement of this great music. It's a joy to play, even on a ten course instrument! The midi file was most helpful for the difficult bars.
beautiful music..
I've never heard this on the lute before. I enjoyed it, thank you.
Thanks for your thanks yourforte! :-) Arto
The passacaille suits well the lute. Nice playing!
one of my favorite pieces, bravo! from vancouver can.
This is beautifully played! That's a great sounding lute you've got there also.
@Waldvogel91 Thanks! For the moment I have stringed and tuned the instrument to a French solo theorbo in d. But I still have the instrument.
Une fort belle transcription d'une oeuvre merveilleuse pour violon solo de Biber.
@chamallowbleu Yes, that is true. 2008 I was using a 4Mp Canon's videoclips. Not too good image quality, not to speak of audio... Then later I used 10Mp's Panasonic's videoclips. Better image, but still bad audio. Since last December I have used Zoom Q3, which is made for music recording. Very good audio, but not too good image quality. Anyhow I have made quite a few tube videos by that. Also using a lute type new to me: 11-course French baroque lute with gut strings... Lots to learn. :-) Arto
Your performance is "just unpolished and un-virtuosic" like you said, but I loved ! Thismusic is very beautful, and like you did in the archlute, I hop one day I play in the recorder. From BraSil !
@AulicExclusiva Thanks! Yep, certainly I am not a virtuoso! I just wanted to show that my arrangement is playable. The difference between archlute and theorbo is in the tuning: (simplified said) the two top strings are lowered by an octave in theorbo, otherwise the relative tuning is the same. I have stringed and tuned just this same instrument also into a French high solo theorbo. You can find also those here in the Y-tube!
Truly GREAT!!!!!
Admit that I use this to as lullaby for my 2 youngest sons it is enough long and deep :)
Just take the violin edition that I give the link, and put that some octaves down to the bass clef... And forget my lute tabulature. ;-) Thanks for the thanks! :)
Beautiful....
Well, take a look to the page I give in the info above! There you'll find info of the piece and also the original version for violin.
Yeah, panther..., I agree sincerely...;-)
@mlmpro1059 Thanks! Well, you may perhaps google "lute maker"? There are quite many of them nowadays, but the instruments tend to be expenseive - no serial production there...
I am a guitarist and classically trained but I have really taken to this beautiful instrument. Can you tell me where I can get a reasonably good one and a guide on how to play it? Many thanks
Well, I played a version of "Paint it black" by archlute to the Tube. It is your fault 666head... ;-) Any other ideas of rock pieces? Arto
This is so so good. Thank you. What kind of tortoise is it ?
You may not call yourself a virtuoso, but you certainly play this beautiful piece very enjoyably. What, forgive the foolish question, is the difference betbeen an archlute and a theorbo?
Arto, do you still have the archlute? This remains one of my favourite youtube videos. I love those lower tones your instrument produces.
i think it suffers a bit by the low bit rate and the ambient mic
@laddyy ay las, you have to listen to some bagpipes!
Great but a real shame about all the background fuzz..
