Bharat Ek Khoj-The Discovery of India A Production of Doordarshan, the Government of India’s Public Service Broadcaster Episode 47: Vivekananda With Alok Nath as Vivekananda, Vipin Sharma as Ramkrishna Paramhansa, Ashok Banthia as Maharaja Mangal Singh, Arjun Raina as Maharaja of Khetri, Narayan Pati as Mahendra Gupta, Sudhir Kulkarni as Sarat Chandra, Anand Mishra as Devendranath Tagore, Subrata Bose as Keshubchandra Sen, and Jasjeet as the dancer. Playback is by Chhaya Ganguly, Pankaj Mitra, and Jolly Mukharjee. Script by Gulan Kripalani. Nehru records that the real impact of the West came to Bengal in the 19th century through technological changes and their dynamic consequences. The first reaction, limited to the small English-educated middle class, was one of admiration and acceptance of almost everything Western. The counter-attempt by Raja Rammohun Roy was to adapt Hinduism to this new environment and start ‘Brahmo Samaj’ on rationalist and social reform basis. Another notable reform movement in the late 19th century was by Swami Dayananda Saraswati that struck root in the form of ‘Arya Samaj’ among the Hindus of the United Province and the Punjab with the slogan: ‘Back to the Vedas’. Another person in Bengal, whose life and precepts considerably influenced the new English-educated classes, was Ramakrishna Paramahansa, a simple man who searched for self-realisation. He even met and lived with Muslim and Christian mystics emphasising: All roads lead to truth. One of his chief disciples was Swami Vivekananda, who founded the non-sectarian Ramakrishna Mission of service. Young Naren’s queries of mystic nature lead him to Ramakrishna at Dakshineshwar, whom he charms with his Nirguna song: O mind, return to your own abode, forsaking your useless sojourn in material worlds as an uninvited stranger … Ramakrishna embraces him as the one for whom he was waiting so long. While Naren is eager to experience Nirvikalpa Samadhi (salvation, by total absorption in the universal identity), the Master chides him for his self-absorption, rather than be a huge tree to provide refuge to others! After the Master’s demise in 1886, Naren moves to a dilapidated house in Baranagar and leads a life of austerity. At Hathras railway station, he meets Sarat Chandra Gupta who becomes his first disciple (Swami Sadananda). At Khetri, Maharaja Ajit Singh becomes his friend and disciple, where he listens to a Bhajan from a Baiji and calls her ‘mother’. After travelling throughout the country for three years, he reaches Kanya Kumari and, to everybody’s consternation, swims across the sea to the southernmost rock ( ‘Vivekananda Rock’) and sits all night in deep meditation. The vast panorama of India passes before his mind’s eye with its past, present and future. On return to Khetri, the Maharaja suggests that he should assume the name of ‘Vivekananda’. With financial help from him and others, Vivekananda proceeds to America to attend the Parliament of Religions, convened in Chicago, in 1893. There his address, opening with: ‘Sisters and Brothers of America!’, meets with thunderous applause. He declares that like all rivers finding a confluence in the sea, all religions ultimately end in one common God. Purity, sanctity and cordiality to all are not the property of any one religion. Nehru observes that Vivekananda laid stress on liberty and equality: ‘Liberty of thought and action is the only condition in life, of growth and well-being; where it does not exist, the man, the race, the nation must go’.

अनंत अपार अथाह आश्चर्य होता है मंथन कर कि कैसे इस धारावाहिक के लिए ऐसे कलाकारों का चयन श्याम बेनेगल जी ने किया,जैसे उन्हे किसी किसी कलाकार को चाहे वो छोटे पर्दे का चाहे मंच पर चाहे फिल्मों में काम करने वाला ही क्यों ना हो, उन्हे चुनते हुए जैसे उन्हे अंदरूनी अहसास हो जाता था कि ये कलाकार ही इस चरित्र को बेहतरीन ढंग से निभा सकता है और ठीक वैसा ही हुआ भी, उनकी अंतरात्मा की आवाज़ रंग लाई, जिस भी कलाकार को जो भूमिका प्रदान की गई हर एक ने उस चरित्र में जान फूंक दी,भविष्य में अब शायद ही ऐसे किसी धारावाहिक का निर्माण हो निर्माण करने वाला हो, कलाकारों को ऐसा अवसर प्रदान हो, अमर हो गया है ये धारावाहिक, कलाकारों की कलाकारी अभिनय भूमिकाएं,संगीत वेश भूषा, किसी भी प्रकार की रती भर भी कमी निकालने का प्रयास नहीं कर सका कोई 🙏🙏🙏👍👍👍

Iss desh me multi relegious, caste, region, belief wale log rehte hai, bahut mushkil h yaha kuch achha karna. Fir bhi humne bahut kuch kiya, hum 2nd sabse badi army hai, 4rth sabse strong army hai, space me 3rd hai, lagbhag har agriculture produce me 4rth 5th hai. Public funded education system IIT, ISRO, IIM, DRDO hai, aur duniya ka sabse accha Constitution hai. Uske baad bhi aap desh k founding fathers ko bura bhala kehte ho? Kaha se hogi population kam? Kya sarkaar ne senior citizen ko social security de di hai, jo woh ab yeh kehti h ki bacche paida mat karo, kya hoga uss senior citizens ka jab uss ko paralysis hojayega? Uski seva kon karega? Government? Social security chhodo retirement ki pension nahi mil rahi h. Lekin janta ko toh sirf masjid mandir, taj mahal, meat, navratri me busy hai. So many distractions on the screen - the DD logo on top right, the subtitles at the bottom, and worst of all the marquee watermark floating from right to left. Please think from the POV of the audience. I understand claiming copyright is important. But there are subtle ways to do it. Pls remove atleast the animated disclaimer.

You missed out the DD logo on the bottom right, which I guess was in the original broadcast 🙄 You are right about this & I have complained in the comments section in another video too on this channel. I wish there was a way to let the people in charge know how irritating this practice is & how much it takes away from the enjoyment of these wonderful shows.
