I never made selection, but I am glad to have went to give it a go. There was a lot I needed to do and more prep. Still, it was good and humbling experience. Deployments and injuries and declining health put a stop to further tries, still a great experience. I did my part as an Infantryman and had two deployments and got to work with great people. Love hearing stories like that.

@@slimi2x you can email any ARSOF recruiter with questions, but I believe you can sign a contract that guarantees a shot at CA selection. The sooner you enlist, the better. Bonuses are high and every job is undermanned. You won’t exactly get SF funding, but you’ll get more rewarding deployments with CA.

As someone who served 6 years I can speak on this topic in-depth actually. I was a first generation military in 3 generations on both sides of my family. I also allowed young anxiety to contribute as well in short I was willing and wanting to go. One thing I wanted primarily was to go to Afghanistan first and foremost and I made that clear when I signed up. When I went to MEPS I did not have a job picked out which I fault the recruiter for but again I was ready to go so maybe that’s why? I watched a short video on Cav scouts at MEPS sitting at the desk where you sign all the paperwork. I watched that video and fell in love instantly and agreed HELL YES let’s do this. I went through a lot of info and I think I even signed a few papers or looked at some. We got to the final paperwork I was even told I was going to Knox for Basic and AIT. We get to the final document to agree to all terms etc. the one thing my recruiter did do was agree that I would get a bonus. I don’t see a bonus on the final paperwork so I ask “where is the bonus amount” he said no bonus with this particular job and I respond but my recruiter promised me I would? A civilian in a suit goes in an office comes back and says we can offer you a bonus for this job and just know you can easily change your MOS later. They made it sound so easy to reclass. I agreed to be a structural engineer and not even active duty but reserve for 6 years for 20k bonus. I had done carpentry all my life so maybe that’s why due to my GT score showing very strong in that line of work maybe? It always puzzled me they would give me a bonus for an engineer but not a Cav scout. According to the MEPS Sgt they just did not need guys for even 11B or Scout that they needed more people in support MOS. I would become honor grad out of my AIT went to drill 2 months and on 3rd month the active army offered another bonus for reserve engineers to go active duty. I didn’t know but I was signing up for my dream to go to Afghanistan. I got to Hood August 2007 and was standing tall in Afghanistan Feb 2008. Had a bad ass 15 month deployment and by some weird irony coming full circle was awarded combat Cav spurs from 6-4 Cav 1st ID From a particular operation in Kunar and Nuristan where things really went haywire and maybe that’s why they gave my squad those spurs. I would have thought combat spurs would be solely for Cav Scouts only? Maybe someone reading this can fill me in? In closing looking back maybe it was destined for me to be the engineer cauee what I wanted more than anything was Afghanistan. Who knows I could have been a scout and ended up in Iraq or nowhere in combat at all possibly?

At least you weren’t one of the dumb asses that believed the us army recruiters who tell their recruits that they will get to try out for the “Navy SEALs.” There is nothing more slimy in the DOD than a us army recruiter.😂

There were some solid points about TM SGTs brought up. There is a new book available for those who are stepping into that roll. Is it cool if I share the link here?

I joined the US Army in 1999. My first deployment was to Kosovo in August, 2000. I was in Kosovo before there was a government formed and was enforcing martial law. A company, 2/327th infantry regiment was in control of the city of Vitina, Kosovo. I was at an abandoned factory that was turned into a forward operating base in Vitina. The first few months my platoon was in control of a sector of the city of Vitina. We were mostly doing check points, guarding local Serbian churches, escorting prisoners charged with crimes against humanity and guarding Serbian homes. Around October, 2000 we started going house to house kicking down people's doors to search for weapons. There were a few terrorist attacks where Albanians were throwing grenades into Serbian's businesses. A major terrorist attack happened on Christmas Eve, 2000 across next to the FOB in Vitina. A large bomb was placed in a residential building and it was so big it blew out the windows on the building I was in. We were arresting a lot of people for breaking the curfew that was between 11PM-5AM. My platoon found a Serbian guy who was murdered execution style and we had to throw the body in back of the hummer and take it to the hospital. I was often cleaning the blood out of the back of the hummer from people who got injured or killed. One time my squad worked with Special Forces to do a raid on a terrorist's house. We pulled up in the hummer behind the guy's house and I was left alone in the back of the house to stop any terrorist's fleeing the scene while my platoon leader and another guy went in the house with the Special Forces. Apparently they guy had a fax machine was faxing back intel to Serbian intelligence agents. After that deployment I got out of the US Army because I didn't want to be doing that the rest of my life. Seen what happened in Iraq and Afghanistan I think I made the right choice. My videos of that deployment are on my KZread channel. There's even a video of us searching a guy's house.
