Beyond Tempo: Unveiling the True Essence of Flamenco Palos ⚠️ Don't Be Fooled by Speed ⚠️

If you think that the tempo is important to differentiate the flamenco palos, watch this video!
Very often, we associate a tempo with a palo: soleá is very slow, alegría is fast, bulería is very fast... And if I ask you: what is the difference between soleá and bulería por soleá? Or the difference between tiento and tangos? I imagine you'll answer: the speed or rather tempo: soleá is slower than Bulería por soleá, Tiento is slower than Tango.
But is tempo really so important, so determining? Is it really part of the essence, of the identity of a palo? And can we always rely on the tempo to recognize a palo?
Relying on tempo to identify palos or differentiate between palos, first, can be misleading, but most importantly: it's a superficial way of understanding palos and flamenco in general. Tha'ts why I put the tempo in the "tips and tricks" category, or "false shortcuts", because things are a bit more complex, and interesting than that. And that's what we're going to see together in this video.

People often think musical discovery is done and we can only discover weird, tasteless experimental stuff going forward from this point. Meanwhile in Flamenco alone there is a vast uncharted territory, waiting to be experimented with. Those who sail into those waters often get criticised to put it mildly, even the biggest names we can think of. It's such a good period to be alive because we can look back, look at the transition and listen to the new amazing stuff that comes out everyday. All equally beautiful!

Thank you for the comment! I agree, it's really a sad thought, to think that everything has been discovered, everything has been done... Humanity moves forward thanks to the relentless quest for things to discover and boundless curiosity. Things change, evolve, mutate before our eyes, for us and by us, and it's magnificent. Flamenco is constantly evolving, it's a river that never stops flowing, each time bringing new elements in its flow. Abrazo!

Wonderful sentiment. That's so much music out there that sometimes we forget how much there is left to discover

Please do make the video of the difference between Solea, Solea por Bulería and Bulería por Solea. I have had discussions about this and would love your view.

Great channel man! and very rich info offered, just one note to improve the quality of your videos, the sound level of your voice while speaking is a bit lower than the channel backing tracks. The viewer must raise the volume high to hear you and then when we shift to another video we get a shock of a very high volume 🤣
