Beyond Creation - Omnipresent Perception fretless bass cover ( plus all guitar solos on bass)

Музыка

All guitar solos performed on 7 string bass!
Fantastic song with really unique bass lines, the guitar solos are great string skipping exercises.
This was done mostly by ear and I will be uploading a guitar pro tab shortly.
Thanks to Simon for helping me out!

Tbh the seven string fretted bass makes it sound like Jeff Hughell did guest solos on the original which is super cool :D

Looks like you've got some tension issues with the lower strings. Is that just the video or is that real? Awesome cover tho, those guitar solos were sick.

Yeah agreed. I cant envision myself ever doing that. I play on the right hand edge of the bridge pickup if u watch me play. Origins bassist plays on the neck too ahah but he also has insane chops like this guy so its whatever

i thinks that it's brilliant afterall but... one thing... when i watched this i thought you missed the point of playing fretless bass. you played it on 15th fret to make some bass because your amp wat treble/high mid scooped. that's not the way to play that instrument. i highly liked your 7string parts for tone. it was sweet. afterall... you have technique to play bass. you have some music knowledge... so why you want to play fretless as it was designed to sound samme as fretted bass?

riesabass Hey dude, thanks for sharing your thoughts. The reason why I played with my right hand so far down the neck is honestly more of a comfort issue for me. I feel like my hand rests better like that and I didn't really consider the tonal difference it might make. In my Archspire cover I play most plucking parts with my thumb resting on the pick-ups and not on the neck. =) kzread.info/dash/bejne/qJyjkqyOhdKvZ7w.html I personally don't think it matters that much, I guess it's all a matter of preference. I'm also kind of new to playing fretless =)

Louis Minett The point of a fretless is to get a certain tone, not to show off how good you are because you play fretless.

  • @LouisMinett

.. The whole point of fretless is to learn by ear, if you can just see the notes then it's the same as paying a normal bass and there's no challenge or discipline.

  • @thordurinn

Louis Minett Again, the extra challenge is not the reason why these dudes are using fretless, they are going for a specific sound quality that a fretted bass doesn't have and that is the whole point. Most fretless basses have fret markers on the top of the neck for the 3rd, 5th and 7th fret anyway that you can see so it's honestly not that much of an extra challenge. Just check out Dominic Forest Lapointe's playthrough of this song and you'll see that even he has them too. As for full fret inlays like my bass has, Hugo Doyon-Karout(new beyond creation bassist), Clayton Harder(Archspire) and Linus Klausenitzer(Obscura, Alkaloid) all have fret inlays like that on their fretless basses! But I do understand that you feel that the inlays devalue the challenge of performing the song so I'll meet you half way and make my next fretless cover with my eyes covered, how's that for a compromise? =)

The difference is that some people need them and some don't, all you have to do is use your ears and adapt your muscle memory.. It's that simple.
