I'm pretty sure Schlitt can only sing in this key in a studio setting nowadays. Petra's last album with John was a step down, and ever since all their live stuff has been played in the lower key as well. This still sounds really good, but you can tell he can't really belt it out like he used to. (No disrespect to him whatsoever, but he was a lot younger 30 years ago lol)

Sure does. As a new christian in the 70's petra was just incredibly vital for my faith. I still enjoy listening from time to time now on youtube. I believe no other gospel band since has ever surpassed their adherence to the true gospel and professionalism.

I'm a Christian and I am surprised by the response to this song from so many people. I had heard rumors of Petra from my youth pastor, and thought "That must be some old cheesy music." This was my first exposure to them and I am both musically and spiritually encouraged by this in a time where it is hard to have faith. 2020 has been beyond belief in a bad way, but this song gives me something to reflect on in light of our circumstances.

Welcome to Petra. I grew up on Petra, I was 12 when I first bought the Unseen Power album back in 1991 (still have the cd). Check out On Fire, Beyond Belief and the Unseen Power albums for some of the best music Petra ever created.

The thing about Petra is they were active for decades, and their sound changed over that time, So sure there are songs from them that we'd call cheesy, but there were also great ones like this that really hold up well even today.

Petra is and was it's own animal, and not even just in the Christian music scene... the entire music scene. They were like every good band rolled into one and had such range that it was unbelievable.

And John Lowery doesn’t get enough credit. Fabulous keyboardist and singer song writer.

Imet John Schlitt after one of Petra's last concerts. I was surprised tolearn of his age (50ish at the time). I loved his attitude. He told me he had an energy most 50 year olds didn't have and he decided to use it for serving God through music. Quite impressed. Sad the group split up. Still listen to their music.

I think Jesus can't wait to have John in His celestial choir, haha! Petra made me love christian rock since I was a kid, and Beyond Belief is definitely one of the best songs for me. God bless you all! :)

Well, it being a strong Christian song, he probably would leave out the F word. But yes, other than that, he definitely had a good time.

I'm super psyched....Petra will be performing on their 50th anniversary tour literally 4 miles down the street from my workplace in Huntsville, Alabama on June 24th (2023). My wife and I already have VIP tickets and several old high school friends will be driving from Mississippi and one from Kentucky for the show. Thanks for posting this video Dan. I'll be honest, this video (although it is 2 years old) is my first time hearing Dan Vasc. You've really got a gift dude....God bless.

I am so very glad you discovered PETRA. After hearing you perform, (I only discovered you a couple of months ago), I cannot imagine a world without you. They are really good. I like them a lot. This song/video is fun to watch, sing along to, and I might say, dance to. This is the first song of 2024 to listen/watch, started my year off with a bang. Congrats on your number of subs so far. 12/8/1998, it was Monday, I lived in a small town in Brazil called Brusque, early afternoon we get aboard on this bus trip which would take mostly youth people from my hometown to a city called Joinville (southern Brazil). As a fan of Petra Band, had more than 15 of their cds and vinyls, I was extremely excited with the opportunity to see them for the first time ever! The bus trip lasted for about 2hrs, we got to the place and the concert opening was hosted by a singer called Aline Barros. I was with two friends, and I told them that I was gonna try to go up the stage when John Schlitt was singing, so we went all the way to the front, as close to the stage as we could get, and then there was a rope and a gap that separated the public from the stage, in this gap there were many security guards. At some point the security guard in front me got distracted, I took advantage of that, ran, jumped on the stage, went towards John Schlitt who was singing and embraced him, he then put the microphone in my mouth and I could sing along with him. But that lasted maybe a few seconds before the security guards got ahold of me and kicked me off the stage. For me, it was a dream come true, one of the most memorable events of my life. Oh, and yes, my friend took a picture of my encounter with John Schlitt. 🤍☀️🇧🇷

eh.... not even close to original... Schlitt was there 2nd lead after 3 or 4 previous albums. Lawry might be there original keyboardist but they didn't originate with keys.

Disclaimer: Not a Christian. Having said that, I've ALWAYS LOVED Christian Rock. Excellent vocals, catchy tunes, powerful, and overall good feelings. I've loved the last 2 songs you've put out with Christian themes. I'd love for you to cover (if you'll take requests) a collaboration with, or at least a cover of, Skillet. Any song would do, but some ideas: Rebirthing, Comatose, Falling Inside the Black, or (emphatically) Whispers in the Dark (I feel this last would fit you very well). "Monster" would be good too, but it feels too mainstream for you (that being said, I wouldn't be opposed). tl;dr: I'd love for you to do a Skillet song.

What about Supernatural from DC Talk? I feel like that song has some pretty decent vocal ranges in it.

I cried when I saw Petra, these guys were my childhood! I love them!

I flew from Ohio to Fort Collins, Colorado in May to fulfill an item on my bucket list from years ago - attend a Petra concert! I gave my life to Christ in the early '80s and was thrilled to learn there were rock bands playing Christian music. Petra has always been at the top of the list of favorites. They gave an incredible concert and John Schlitt still sounds strong!

Petra is so obscure but is one of the most important bands for me!! My mom was obsessed and played them all the time when I was a kid. She died young a few years ago and stumbling across this perfect collaboration made me feel connected to her again. This is truly amazing!!

More than a song, these lyrics have been real life truths for me in the mission field.

I can't get enough of this collab. Keeps giving me nostalgia and goosebumps. The Beyond Belief album to this day remains my favorite Petra album and they are what got me into rock. John still sounds incredible.
