Beyonce talks about life as a solo artist

(27 Jun 2003)
13 mins approx
1. Sit down interview with Beyonce Knowles. Including soundbite:
"My new single is called 'Crazy In Love' and it sounds like Washington Go Go which is something that is really current now in the streets but it also has an element of old school with live horns and I think the beauty of the song is the mixture of something really current and something really old and it sounds really different from anything else on the radio. I was actually very nervous because I wasn't sure if people were going to understand it. Sometimes when you take that risk it doesn't work out for you but it did thank God."
"I really expressed myself and it's really personal and like a journal and it's about love and relationships, if I didn't experience it I did through my friends and family and if you want to know how it feels to be in love or if you are in love or used to be in love you should get 'Dangerously In Love'."
"I write all my own songs, I produce all of my own songs and I have grown so much between my last Destiny's Child album and my first solo album and basically I wanted people to experience that and to hear that. I've grown as an artist, a writer and vocally and as a girl to a young lady. So my album kind of represents the evolution of a woman."
"I was really nervous the first performance I did by myself because obviously I have been with them since I was nine and I am so used to them and I love them so much, it was hard for me. It seems like that feeling almost made me a lot more dynamic on stage, the nervousness... I don't know what happens, it's always happened but even more now. The show was really theatrical and the dancing was incredible and I have never had the chance to do that before and I'm singing some really beautiful ballads and I don't get a chance to do that either. There is a lot of different, new eclectic sounds and great things going on."
"I have been in the spotlight for a while, seven years now, I'm only 21 so that is a lot of my life. So I have gotten used to it. It's not crazy for me, some moments I am like 'oh God can I walk somewhere without people looking at me?' I'm used to it and it's not crazy and I'm able to deal with it. There are certain things I don't talk about because I think that is the way to keep me sane and I still have piece of me that is private that keeps me stable and level and I'm happy."
