Don’t forget the older women, they are often alone (like me). We’re more capable than most give us credit for, but we may not be able to do as much physical work as younger women, or men in general. Many have a lot of knowledge, and some of us are well-prepared and willing to share if given the opportunity to be part of a group. Pro-tip, if you have a group and someone visits, make an effort to get to know them, even if they are a single and older woman.

We have some neighbors that read and watch the tube and can tell you how to do anything. But they cannot put it to use for themselves. Always, always need someone to do things for them.

@BuddyH69 I don't get around like I used to,bad knees. But we are very lucky to have 3 really good neighbor families and we all come together when needed. Nothing asked in return. The rest of the neighbors I don't trust at all. We are not wealthy, but do our best to help. We raise a lot of our food. Our other neighbors "moved" around here and had to introduce themselves as "preppers " lol. They have all failed. We're in a very rural area. They stopped all the neighbors on our road and wanted to start a "community ". I said a community will always fail. But they don't understand what it means. All through history communities have failed. Most of those people don't have or know💩. They want you to do the work and learn what you have when they need it. And there begins the failure. JMO.

@@backachershomestead I’m glad you have good neighbors. The group I was referring to were a lot like the doomsday Preppers from TV. I’m a mid 50’s guy and I have the aches and pains too. I’ve been pushing to get in better shape. We have to because when SHTF we may need to bug out. Plus I feel better getting more exercise. God Bless

Im sure I have mentioned this here before but I did a lot of research on the history of commune and mutual ownership communities. Every one of them had failed due to too many lazy wanting to live off the worker bees. As the numbers of takers grew the worker bees left! This is just logical, right? This sounds like the direction our country is headed. The worker bees will quit working to feed, clothe and house the lazy. The lazy population is growing faster than the working population! Sound familiar!!!

I dont associate with the "talkers", or the people that don't do anything, because they're usually the same type of person. I always watch out for the ones that talk about "community", because most of them don't want community. They just want to be taken care of. I'll take 1 hard working good person above a "community" of talkers.

I work with a guy who if you done something he has done it but he done it better hahaha I took off early just to get away from him hahaha but a few years ago he said he would steal what he needed instead of getting ready and he didn't like what I said he won't be showing up at my house for any kind of help because he won't leave ever

Thought for the vets... A year ago I joined my local VFW as a way to network and increase my "people skills." It's been a very useful learning experience for me and honestly I've been able to do some good for the community. And I got a really cool hat...

One of my friends has a book on his bed about SHTF. He knows what is coming and he’s buying ammo and guns but hardly anything else. I have to keep an eye on him because I suspect he’s a wolf.

I readily agree with you. The people I know who have done, or are doing substantial preparations, don’t talk a lot about it. It’s every day life, and not an exciting conversation point. I am wary of folks who become animated regarding provision for life. I’d rather hear folks acknowledge God’s blessings, and how good life still is in this country, regardless of how it has lowered itself. Be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.

I quit my senior year of H.S to join the Army, and went to 4 different mosq schools, my grandparents raised my parents during the depression, and were farmers,I spent my life as a contractor and welder, I have devoted my life to learning a little bit about everything that I would need to survive almost anything. Am I an expert at anything? No. Do I have an opinion to share as to how something might be done more efficiently? yes. Am I smart enough to accept the fact that someone else has a better way? absolutely ! I know how to garden, but you might know more, I can raise chickens and rabbits, but you probably know more than me in that area, but I can make almost anything.... the point is, we all need to work together, and go back to the old ways of a tight community that helped each other, and shared specialties and knowledge , that model worked for thousands of years before technology destroyed our society and drove us apart.

We just had a 20 minute shower here at our place in Southern middle Tennessee. 3rd small shower in 2 months. Just enough to make the dust sticky. And the weeds grow. Pastures are dried up.

Typically I pick a bushel of green beans every 5 days…the rabbits are winning this year. Thank God for his abundance last year, we have plenty still. But the fight is on🐰🔫

Rubber snakes and fake owls, glowing eyes is even better. I try to get them when they go on clearance. I put them on a piece of rebar, The eyes can be painted with glow in the dark paint .Hope it helps, I also have pie tins, painted( yet to do) with holes drilled in, run string thru were they will smack together in the wind.Good luck.

I've encountered several people who talked about wanting to prep. Often they slowly talked about simply coming to my place (to mooch). None but one ever started anything, just 'Id love to start canning' or 'living off grid is my ideal living condition'. The only one who eventually listened was an exGF who got to the 3 week stage then balked at continuing. She's young and mostly wants the world to continue as if 2019 never ended. She had CRAZY skill sets that no one would ever imagine looking at a very attractive person. Could be a warlord or community leader in post apocalypse settings. Just a bit emotionally weak. One of the only ones I communicate with. She knows what's happening, just no built up cope skills to fully deal with it.

The problem I come across is no One believes me it's about to get bad and so they do nothing

A couple years ago I discovered that people who are surviving in in war torn areas have learned a lot about food preservation and just ever day living when there are no services available. Do some searching and weed out the fakes. We can learn a lot from those who have been forced to walk the talk. Anyway, just a thought.

I look for a person whose behaviors match their words. So many people talk the talk but they don't walk how they talk. Liars usually don't walk how they talk.

Our community has a fb page. Someone posted that we needed to start some prepared community groups. The response was, “Yes we do because the prepared need to take care of those of us who aren’t.” Needless to say, the prepared didn’t form a group. We’re still a grey man community for our own protection.

I knew of a great many "folks" who lived in rural areas that grew nothing, knew nothing but always had their hand out. So sad, but not my problem any more.

It's not just distrust or wanting to be solo, for me it's also not wanting to deal with the attitudes and egos of people these days. No one wants to actually do any work. Everyone thinks they are better than you, that they know more than you about everything, and that they are the ones who should have the final say and make all the decisions. I don't hate people but I long ago came to the realization that most people are lazy and simply suck...so I avoid them on purpose.

Travis: when I ran a shelter in Georgia ( just north of Atlanta) I paid attention to weather forecasts in cities 400-600 miles around me. They all helped throughout the year depending on the season.

I have made the mistake of classifying someone too quickly so make sure their not shy or just have the excitement of a young inexperienced person. And you would be surprised how old some of them are! It's tough being a leader everything doesn't come with an instruction book. So cut yourself some slack too!

So when you have meet the teacher night with your kids, look at what repairs their school needs are tax dollars aren't remodeling them. I'm a custodian. I see itt every day!!!! Many class rooms need repainted and new carpets the paint is flicking off the walls and the carpets has been their since the 70's the grounds look really bad too look for weeds and look at the sidewalks that are falling apart. I'm from Missouri. The class rooms need new desks. it's so sad to look around. Please report it too.
