Bevisode with Mayim’s Mom! Millennials, Mindfulness, & Memories

Back again this week with what is quickly becoming a fan favorite, the Bevisode! In this third installment we go a little meta with Bev breaking down her own episode... breaking down other guests’ episodes. Bev goes on to share her admiration for us getting a ‘down to earth’ millennial like Sofia Franklyn on the show along with her lack of enthusiasm for the mindful, philosophical conversation we had with Sam Harris. Later Bev reflects on the sadness she felt during Jaleel White’s openness about the realities of being a child star and the similarities she saw in Mayim. And finally, we breakdown her thoughts on male nail polish in AJ McLean’s episode, plus the correlations around the idea of ‘chaos’ that she experienced in her life.

I turned 36 last October, at the age of 14 in 1 Summer that started in march 1999 I lost 6 friend's 😔 I went into the darkness and I slept for 2 weeks, I didn't shower (I had to be bathed) I didn't eat (I had to be fed like a baby) after being forced to do these things, I was made to get help! The therapist lady was so kind and gentle, she allowed me to go slow! It took a good 5 sessions before I said anything! She saved my life, she pulled me out of my darkness! I vowed to always get help and to never allow myself into the darkness again no matter how bad it hurts 😞 thank you so much for all you do, you are more valuable than you'll ever know!!

Mayim and Bev - if some consider your relationship dysfunctional , I would have to say it is healthy dysfunction. You two are doing your personal work in order to be as whole as possible, so that you have more to bring the relationship with one another. I really enjoy the way you two interact and I pray you never lose that. Much love to you guys!

After binge (re)watching all episodes, in order, of Big Bang Theory during COVID, I found myself missing all of your characters; to my 13 yr olds delight as he has ‘warned’ me that I would miss you. So I started looking to see what each of you were doing now and came across your podcasts. So naturally I stared at the beginning and began listening, then watching them. They have all been so well produced and very informative. But more than that they have given me hope. As someone who has been in and out of therapy for nearly 30 years, I wondered if I would ever be ‘fixed’. You and your guests have made me realize, and reinforced what numerous therapists have said, that this is a journey and, given my very complicated and traumatic past coupled with a history of TBI’s both before and during my career in the military, it is one that I will continue to move through and learn from, likely for the rest of the days I walk this earth. So thank you and Jonathan for that. And thank your mom! She is amazingly open minded, at least in comparison to mine who disowned me 25 years ago for joining the military and then coming out. She gives me hope for the world that people, no matter their age, can learn and grown and love in a much broader way then they were raised to. Keep up the good work and I can’t wait until I have caught up and then can tune in weekly!

"Schmoozefest," I love it. Being a motherless adult at a young age has been hard to say the least. I just wanted to say, it's so nice to see what one looks like, the adult child and mother relationship. Kudos to Bev for loving her girl and being open to truly caring for her mental health. What I really love and admire is that Bev has the support and the courage to do the work. In the aging population we don't see this enough. I want more mental health awareness for seniors. I work with them in the South Side of Chicago (or did until the pandemic) as a mental health case manager/Social Worker. What I love about this type of work/service is the knowledge of the population. I mean, talk about history lessons. My client's taught me so much about coping skills and courage. Bev Girl, you rock!

This episode got me thinking about all the things. The conversation about how Mayim experienced certain difficult aspects of her childhood, but did not, in fact, grow up in a post WW tenement block, made me wonder if it is ever possible for us as adults to REALLY empathize with the lived experience of a child (our own or another). We focus on creating better lives for kids but through the filter of our own experiences, rather than the filter of what THEY perceive the world demands of them. It's a fascinating thing to contemplate as I look at the children in my life. What will they have to process about their childhoods when they grow up that I'm oblivious about because I'm not 14? Love the Bevisodes! Happy Mother's Day to you both.

I ADORE all BEVISODES! I cannot choose one!...I’m a bit jealous (in a good way) of Mayim-Beverly relationship! So transparent and so open. Their complicity...Merit of both of them. I never had that opportunity with my mother. An ultra-Catholic, strict, rigid, authoritarian woman who imposed her opinions without any hope of reasoning nor dialogue. On the contrary, I had to break up with her for some years to set boundaries to defend my own growing as a human being and my own mental health. I even dealt with a hard colon cancer without having her near...So, so lucky you both, Mayim and Bev! And Jonathan too. Having someone as Beverly in your lives is a BLESSING! 💜 And YES, Beverly! Mayim tends to be too self deprecating..whe she really is an AWESOME & FABULOUS woman. Am I right, Jonathan! 😉

I didnt watch Big Bang till she became part of the cast. Then i went back and watched all episodes. Amy Farrah Fowler was a great addition. Ss a widowed mother of a daughter, i get the uncomfortable relationships between mother and daughter without the buffer of the father. As a woman of strong opinions. My kid doesnt always appreciate my view points. As is her right. Till shes pissed off , im right. Lol

I just realized that I could do this. This is about my eighth podcast every single one has multiple things which are directly beneficial to me. I’ll just make this one comment about this one at the end when you talked about Bev not biting her nails. I think I recall that Miam said that Bev peeled her cuticles. That is the most painful thing in the world early on my mom introduced me to nippers. When I feel a loose cuticle I try not to pull it and as soon as I can I get the nippers and take care of it. I can’t thank you enough for the work you’re doing with your podcasts. Also a big thank you to Johnathan.

I had a difficult relationship with my Mom most of her life, we worked most of it out before she passed. We definitely are different people, and I understand the cringe factor Mayim was speaking about working with her Mom. Learning to embrace someone for who they are, even the parts one doesn't like or are very cringe worthy is not easy. We all have parts we need to work on in our own time our parents and relatives do too, if not in the afterlife.

I’m loving Bev’s insightfully thoughts about each episode and am especially looking forward to her discussion on Wil Wheaton. Actually, I would love to watch a much longer discussion with Bev about this particular episode. Wil seems to have gone through tremendous pain with regards to his parents and I was glad to see him take a stand against abuse and I was glad he has a wife who understands his pain and helps him heal. You could literally feel the intensity and his pain as he spoke about his childhood. I bet if he had a Mom like Bev, he would have felt so much love and compassion as a child.

Love it 🥰 Well done to all involved as it is definitely not easy to do & put it publicly here on KZread 💕 If parents were able to give their children more than they own had when they were children I think they did amazing job. The most valuable though is the action done because of the love and best interest for the child in the situation he/she is. I cannot wait to watch more

Great idea to invert the colors for the BEVISODES header! It’s like having a kind of an alert to easy identify them. A kind of their own folder inside the general folder! 👍🏼👌🏾

I’d like to see an episode with Ed Robertson, your song writer/singer from Barenaked Ladies. He’s brilliant, fascinating and has lived some incredible experiences such as surviving a plane crash and being famous since a young teenager.
