Made my own blade, scales basically everything apart from the wingnut and bolt and all out of 2mm thick steel. Nice chunky shiv.

Something has always been there in the back of my mind when I watch your channel and I finally put my finger on it. The Woodwright's Shop with Roy Underhill! I remember watching that on PBS as a kid and how he always wanted to use hand tools as much as he could just like you do.

That's about the best compliment I could get. Surprisingly he's still actually on there. I think it's now 33 or 34 seasons.

Beautiful work, James! Nicely done! 😃 I have a biggish stainless steel sheet around here... I guess I could cut it and make one! 😃 Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

You can actually buy just the blade from the kit that I'm using rather than getting all the hardware as well.

Thanks for sharing -kit looks fun! When you're filing something to round I find it better to move the file in a smooth curving motion *away* from the curve you are creating, continuing to move the position of the file around till you hit the line. If you just try and follow the curve directly it can be hard to avoid lots of facets/inconsistent curves. If you look at how metal workers file it will make sense

ONLY ON THE PUSH< Files ONLY Cut on the Push and using it like a Saw tears up the file

That is an old myth. It has been busted time and time again. It's true that it mostly only cuts on the push stroke. But backstroking it does not hurt it at all.

please refrain from dragging the file backwards over brass. It will dull quickly that way.

That is actually an old myth that has been debunked many times. It is one that makes since, but in reality really does not happen.

James, was good till you did the waist of blue tape for your glue mix? Blue tape in wood working is like monkey see monkey do! Why not save the cardboard from may of the food products you through out normally. I save cereal boxes, and the plastic bag material. Use that to mix your glue on! It you want to still use tape use yellow masking tape at ⅓ the cost! Still quite waistful! In fact use tge bottom of old bean or soup cans! Also on your sand paper will last longer it you put shipping tape on the back, especially on round stock sanding!
