As a Finnish woman I do think it us outrageous that the border countries to Russia are the one’s who seem to be the only European countries who have to act as a shield for rest of Europe. I do hope Germany and all other countries step up militarily ASAP. I do not understand countries where citizens do not require their armies to be strong enough do defend even their own soil… pS. What is wrong with conscripton ? In Finland is has only a positive effect on the whole society. It brings young men from different parts of the country, different backgrounds and different socioeconomical standing TOGETHER, at a vulnerable age, it brings structure and self confidence for those who lack it and boys grow to become men. It is truly a glue that keeps society together and keeps patriotism at a healthy level. And it is very cost effective and really the most reliable way to have a good defense force. And yes women can take part too, but i would say our “ military” last for many years and it is called pregnancies and family leave taking care of babies and toddlers, which make a huge gap in our working careers.

Why wouldn't Europe be able to defend themselves, maybe a bit slow but when everyone changes to WARTIME "settings" war equipment kinda has priority over a "not crucial" things like a car or a plastic slide or dinner plates or a chair... Like we are not even trying now to push military equipment, we are trying to keep the "happyhappy joyjoy setting" while helping Ukraine.

No objective person believes Europe is prepared to defend itself. Not materially, not psychologically, not politically. Exceptions are the Baltic/Scandanavian countries and a few in Eastern Europe.

ukraine joining nato in any near future depends solely on the fact whether the usa wants to be dragged into direct conflict in the very near future or not. So usa will not hurry at least for few decades and wait for current crop of ukrainian leaders to retire from politics. The glory belongs to Ukraine, the core assets belong to NATO, the occupied lands belong to Russia, and the Ukrainian people have received huge war debts. In summary, Ukraine wins.

The reality is having the pomp and pageantry of woke soldiers and reservist with decent salaries and benefits is one thing. Even in the horrifying scenario of Trump wining and then blocking any USA contribution to NATO, Europe still has far more capacity of everything (industrial production, people, international relations, finance, technology, etc.) compared to Russia. Enough to overshadow Russia several times over. The major issues are unity and political will. An Europe that lacks unity can be picked apart piece by piece. An Europe that doesn't have the political will to fight back will just lose. Just like the USA militarily now acts as glue between Japan and South Korea, they did the same for NATO. And I would argue that, in the post-Soviet period, playing this role was more important to NATO than the military might itself that the USA has (a majority of NATO's military might).

@amalia_ag Ukrain's drone pilots are "fighting online" against Russia's invading army in Ukraine. One doesn't have to be physically in the battlefield with Russia's invading troops in Ukraine to be fighting them.

there can only be peace if the non-occupied parts of Ukraine can join NATO. otherwise Russia can breach any "peace deal" whenever they want

More than 2 years into the war and Russia only manages to occupy 20% of Ukraine and that is at massive losses The question is can Russia actually attack Europe? Meat wave assaults only work if you have more people than the people that you are attacking

Russia is fighting NATO not Ukraine. How many NATO special forces have been killed by Russia? Russia doesn't want to take over Ukraine but destroy it. The main goal is archieved. There won't be Ukraine in a years time and NATO can't win this war against Russia. NEVER.

Russia has zero interest in attacking Europe. Putin has stated that over and over. But he did attack Ukraine. Why? Because back in 2007 he announced his red line. Which was that neither Georgia nor Ukraine would ever be allowed into NATO. And no Putin doesn't want all of Ukraine. Read the Minsk Agreements or what was negotiated in Istanbul to verify. His main goal is Ukrainian neutrality.

All that is true, but what must be taken into consideration is that Ukraine doesn't present an existential threat to Russia, if European countries get involved it will be another matter and it will get nuclear. So if you want to die for US interests go ahead.

Obvious lies. They are not treath, or media/ governments lie about their losses.. not to mention why we raise that question, why would Russia attack anyone in Europe. Maybe we provoke them so we are expecting it? Anyway, many obvious lies that bring us to the great danger and we already have great price for our intentions. Billions are gone + prices are higher for random people.

Can Yugoslavia defende itself from german attempt to break it aprart ? And an end of german agression is no where near , so germany go to war first time since 1945 . on sovereign country SR Yugoslavia in 1999, laik it did in 1941 .

@@olivergarcia2304 I am from the former Yugoslavia and I can only tell you that Russia never occupied Croatia, where I live, but Germany did.

EU leaders are confident they can win the war against Russia. The simple thinking is if Russia can not take down Ukraine in 2 years, then there is no way for Russia to win against EU.. Seem logical but Russia has lot of nuclear bombs. I hope they don't misinterpreted the wars and underestimate Putin.
