One of the most underrated major movie stars in the history of hollywood.... Betty Hutton and Veronica Lake are two prime examples of "Fallen Stars", ironically both worked for Paramount studios.... Betty's enthusiasm is so infectious and I am so glad that she found God's love..... Betty, I hope u have found the peace and happiness that you were always looking for now in God's eternal home....

I remember back in the late 1960's the newspapers broke the story about Betty Hutton that she was destitute and worked at a Catholic parish as a cook. After reading the sad story about her it broke my heart.

I love her movies. She has such exuberance and an understanding of life, she gave everything to her career. Hollywood turned its back on her. Such a talent. RIP.

She's a true comedian. She makes jokes at her own expense.

Her story breaks my heart, this is the first i've heard of it. Her on stage persona masked all that trouble, so glad she made it through.

Such a huge heart, it’s crazy how societal norms are still so similar to how they were and how sadly not much has changed. I am though so happy she found happiness ♡

There's something super cool about her. Betty was broken, but her spirit still burst through. I really dig who she was as a person.

God have mercy, I heard her mom was an alcoholic and her dad left with another woman and committed suicide. She was singing at 3 yrs old. Sometimes life leaves alot of scares.

Well it’s not like any other business. There’s no business like show business, but a lot of great people bring it in themselves because they don’t know anything about business.

After the death of her mentor, Father Maguire, Hutton returned to California, moving to Palm Springs in 1999, after decades in New England. Hutton hoped to grow closer to her daughters and grandchildren, as she told Robert Osborne on TCM's Private Screenings in April 2000, though her children remained distant. She told Osborne that she understood their hesitancy to accept a now elderly mother. The TCM interview first aired on July 18, 2000. The program was rerun as a memorial on the evening of her death in 2007, and again on July 11, 2008, April 14, 2009, January 26, 2010, and as recently as March 18, 2017 as part of TCM's memorial tribute for Robert Osborne. Hutton lived in Palm Springs until her death March 12, 2007, at 86, from colon cancer complications. She is buried at Desert Memorial Park in Cathedral City, California. [Citation courtesy of TCM]

There is nothing nuts about mental struggles such as Betty went through. The fact she came out the other-side is credit to her strength.

Phil's questions are good, but Betty's story is too familiar and "over-acted." Far better if the producers had shown her as the "savant" she was in the movies, Try just the opening number of "Let's Dance," where she's the only partner to out-sing, out-dance and upstage Fred Astaire! Why did Judy and Doris continue to receive great roles while Betty was ignored? It's not simply TV and the culture. It's the unwanted poster that Hollywood sent out in 1952. She was out for 5 years, coming back with "Spring Reunion," the most amateurish, unflattering and ugly movie ever made--an insult to her legacy. It finished her.
