Betty Hutton - Doctor, Lawyer, Indian Chief

Музыка

Most musical fans point to Julie Andrews or Judy Garland as their favorite actresses. But I'm all about the underseen, underappreciated genius of Betty Hutton. This clip of her eye-popping (and eye-stretching) performance in a B-musical comedy serves as a light introduction to her style.
Hutton's most notable film role was the part of Annie Oakley in the 1950 musical of "Annie Get Your Gun." One of her best known songs (Blow a Fuse, later renamed It's Oh So Quiet) was covered by Icelandic artist, Bjork ( Björk ).

I am 17 years of age as well. And I am absolutley in LOVE with Betty Hutton and other artist's from back in the day. Music in today's day and age is just... ugh... I agree with stareleades. WE definitley need more wonderful singers like her. Music today's just all about synthesizers and not actual talent. If you're attractive, and even if you're horrid at singing, you can still get fame. Which is really sad. Shows how times have changed. Love ya Betty! :D

Thank you for posting this clip from Ms. Hutton's movie, "The Stork Club" . In spite of everything that has been said about her personal life, I like her. Her last interview with Robert Osborne was to me quite revealing. There was no guile, nothing fake or self-serving about her responses. She was just Betty, someone who was once at the zenith of stardom and who now knew that loving and being loved was all that really mattered.

Hoagy Carmichael wrote this especially with Betty in mind, to sing in the film. She also recorded the song for Capitol records in mid-'45 {with Paul Weston's orchestra}, and is no less brassy on disc as well! Incidentally, it was after her experience in filming "Somebody Loves Me" for Paramount in 1952 [a BIG flop!] that she decided to quit the movies "for good"...a brief fling at TV was to follow.

Betty Hutton wasn't neglected during her active career-she was one of the TOP singer/actresses of the 40's-including a classic comedy by Preston Sturges. Despite her beauty, she went for brassy vocal antics, self-parody,& nearly manic comedy. She seemed desperately eager to please. In "Sunset Blvd," the studio chiefs suggest Bill Holden turn his script into a "female baseball movie" since "Paramount is always looking for Betty Hutton vehicles." Once she quite films, she plunged into obscurity.

I am SO sick and tired of people who play the race card. This song is NOT racist, it's just an attempt to write a song that rhymes and is upbeat. I'm sure it was NEVER meant as a racial slur to anyone. Just freakin grow up and don't think your job is to point out what YOU think is racist in this world.

can we just stop talking about race in every subject that comes up? sick of it too. Things that happened generations ago, we bear the blame and brunt, and people keep walking around with it like a chip on the shoulder. Can't we all just move forward? geez... leave the past in the past. Focusing on all the human flaws in history will keep everyone angry and bitter, and that's when we all lose. Don't forget the musicians of this era were among the forefront of equality, many times choosing to sleep on the bus if their bandmates were refused service or lodging...
