Anyone else only know about this song because of "Big Top Pee-Wee?" It's what Pee-Wee and his animals are playing in the cellar while the storm is raging outside. Since I was really young, I've never forgotten this song and the sound of this lady's voice.

This was Betty s movie debut and this song made her an overnight success. I say this is her song, not Helens. It was wartime and we needed cheering up and Betty was the one to do it.

This song really starts at 0:54 in my opinion. haha Just watched Pee-Wee's Big Top with my kids, been a while since I watched the flick, and I remembered this song from the scene where he is in the basement with the animals having a party waiting for the storm to pass. Luckily now that KZread exists, I can find the original tune and fully enjoy it! KZread is about the closest thing to a time machine we have today!

Arthur Murray himself was aghast at the song - until someone told him that the only thing the audience would remember was "Arthur Murray Arthur Murray" etc and that it was great free publicity.

@hebneh - here are some funny factoids about Arthur Murray's reputation in another song and on a sitcom: - In 1946, Desi Arnaz starred in the film Cuban Pete, and recorded a song of the same name, featuring the lyric, "Cuban Pete doesn't teach you in a hurry like Arthur Murray/You're now in Havana, and there's always mañana". - In an episode of Sanford & Son, when asked to dance, Fred says "I've been told I can't dance." The young lady says, "Arthritis?", Fred responds, "No, Arthur Murray."

And I thought the Dorsey/OConnell version was good! The band members acted well, as they didn't break out laughing. Another actress who could get carried away, but not by this much, is Zelma O'Neal in "Follow Through" (1930).

I'm surprised that the lyrics of this song are actually somewhat derogatory in describing the Arthur Murray dance studio chain. She's saying that she really didn't end up being able to dance, and while that's partly her fault due to her own lack of talent, the lessons were "in a hurry" and not satisfactory. I can only assume that Arthur Murray himself thought that any publicity, even if it wasn't completely positive, was better than none. Especially if this was free.
