A couple things to help comprehend wtf this is and why it wasn't in the main series: -This is a special performance given after the medals have been awarded after the competition featuring those who placed (kind of like an encore). Since it's not being judged, there's not as many restrictions on presentation or what moves are/are not illegal. Which is why this one reads so differently compared to the main show. The Yuri and Victor pair skating at the end of the show was the same. -According to a limited edition manga, this performance was a last minute impulse on Yurio's part. The one he had been doing up until this point was much more....expected. But the Grand Prix had him all riled up and so he decided to pull something a lot more bold out of his ass at the last minute. Otabek helped. -Yuri on Ice was only greenlit for 12 episodes, but the creator originally wanted 24. It's possible that this scene was one of the many that was cut due to that restriction. The fireworks scene in the ending credits was also supposed to be a whole episode (if I remember correctly), so we know this has happened before. Hope this helps!

Ice skating isn't very popular compared to other sports, and the plot and relationships are unusual for sports anime. Not only was the season cut to half size, but it aired at like 2am in Japan. But Yuri on Ice was born to make history, and despite all these setbacks it became a global phenomenon. Because it's just that damn legendary.

actually I read somewhere that, the production (MAPPA) didn't believe that Yuri on Ice would become a hit that is why YOI is broadcasts during 2 am in Japan also it is supposed to have 24 episodes in a single season but they cut off the rest, welcome to the madness and ViktUri's last performance during credit scene are supposed to be in a single episode but since it already hit the 12 episodes they cut it off and made it into a credit scene. just pretty sad how mappa thought it wouldn't become a big hit ending up to be one and now they seem to have no plans on continuing it

Btw it’s important that you understand because you didn’t include it in the video, the banquet that Yuuri is drunk at happened directly after his flunked Grand Prix in the first episode of the show. In that clip, he asks Victor to be his coach. He asks him BEFORE the events of the show to be his coach after spending the night dancing with him. This means that Victor showing up in Japan isn’t random, AT ALL. Him being super flirty and touchy is not him being creepy AT ALL, because he has no clue that Yuuri doesn’t remember the banquet. From Victor’s POV, Yuuri basically seduced him, asked him to coach him, and ghosted him for a year, then showed up online skating his program. Those thirty seconds at the end of that episode entirely changes their relationship in the first half of the show. It flips it on its head! Victor was never some guy who was bored who flew to Japan to sleep with Yuuri. In fact, the Eros program takes on a whole new meaning too! Yuuri describes how at first he sees the story as a playboy who shows up and seduces the “prettiest girl in the village” and then “casts her aside and leaves”. Yuuri doesn’t see himself as the playboy, but he actually WAS to VICTOR. He won Victor, the best of the best, over at the banquet, but because he didn’t remember any of it, he left without a word. Sorry for rambling, but this is seriously one of the most brilliant and subtle twists I’ve ever seen, and it makes rewatching the show an incredible experience. Lots of little details fall into place and makes you see it in a new light. Also I have to say now that I’ve watched your whole reaction series to the show, Jesus Christ the Japanese version is so much better. The English voices are absolutely ridiculous and almost all of them fail to capture the emotions of the characters because they sound so out of place. I know you said you enjoyed it even though it’s different than you’re used to, so if you decide to rewatch it at some point, please watch the subtitles version lmfao Apologies for rambling, this is one of my favorite shows of all time! I’m glad you liked it even though you were struggling a little with the ice skating lmfao

Dont worry Danny. Actual ice skating fans also wish real competition would go that hard. Also, it looks a lot harder than it is, most of the stuff he's doing is show stuff, that looks super cool but is mostly based on easier stuff (you learn to do a split jump before you even learn a lutz) its just mostly. Expanded? So he can skate faster and focus on performance because most of the elements are just showing off, not stuff that merits points. Thats why its so awesome, actually, because most of the series is competition focused, where you have to do a certain set of moves and jumps to qualify and earn points, but gala shows like this are just to look cool, and so props are allowed and you can waste time on a split jump that won't merit many points but looks AWESOME even outside a choreo sequence.

The Untamed or MDSZ would be fun to react to too. It was originally a novel (mo dao zu shi) but it has an animated adaptation of the same name and a live action show called The Untamed. Both are really good adaptations and worth watching. The animated series was more loyal to the plot of the novel but the pacing is really fast. The Untamed added+ took away a lot but still stayed true to the heart of the novel. Neither could be that explicit bc of Chinese censor laws (the book was very explicit tho) but they conveyed the love between the two leads well regardless. The Untamed was particularly adept at this imo.

Yurio's routine in this isn't something that he would skate in a competition. It's more of something somebody would do for an exhibition, it's artistic. Just like at the end of the final episode where Victor and Yuri are skating together.

oh don't tease me with Fruits Basket if you don't really mean it 😭 that would genuinely be a FANTASTIC series for you to react to because there's so many twists and turns and layers of charcter to uncover that you'll always feel like you're recontextualizing previous episodes the more you watch. the only thing id be concerned with is making sure you have someone screening your comments because getting spoiled would be upsetting. but its a GREAT show and would make a really great reaction series

  • @lilykep

This is an exhibition skate, basically just to show off, it has totally different rules than a competition skate. Yuri would have been disqualified if he'd skated this routine in competition. However this is possible to preform. It's fast and chaotic but a lot of exhibition skates are chaotic and super fast.

Since you mentioned it, The reason I'm not watching your Chainsaw Man reactions is because I want to experience the series on my own first (haven't had enough time to sit down and watch it on my own). I think that when you did your season 2 demon slayer reaction was perfect - it was uploaded right in the middle of that series airing, so it was easier to catch up with the series and then watch. Just my perspective tho! Always love seeing your videos!!!

Former figure skater here, kinda late to the party but clearing a few things up 1: the reason this performance is not in any of the competitions is because some of the moves in welcome to the madness aren’t legal (i.e the jump and also involving otabek im pretty sure) 2: skating to a rock song efficiently is extremely difficult because everything is paced to go with the rhythm of whatever music one is skating to. Certain jumps and spins have to go with a certain part of a person’s program music as a tension reliever or a climax to the performance and because of how fast paced heavy metal or rock songs are it would be real hard to do that 3: while outfit changes are sometimes done, I don’t think throwing glasses into the crowd or leaving a jacket on the ice is possible because it is a hazard on both ends 4: yeah, the jump could be possible, saw someone do a backflip once, but it wouldn’t be nearly that high and would need a lot of time to practice landing else he could break something or just get a serious injury of sorts

Another anime I love is Life lessons with Uramichi oniisan, it’s full of dark humour and painfully relatable… I feel like you’d have fun reacting to it. The dub is amazing but I love the sub because it has all my favourite voice actors.

Okay, Danny, please hear me out. There are two animes I really, /really/ want you to react to. The first one is called "The disastrous life of Saiki K" and it's about a deadpan teen psychic who just wants to be normal. The other is "Banana Fish" which you'll have to look up for yourself. I don't think any explanation I could give would do it justice. Please consider! (I have commented about maybe watching Saiki k on a few of your videos at this point, btw.)

Danny, i come back to watch your reaction videos all the time, even if I've seen them already, just cuz they make me smile and giddy and happy, it's kinda crazy that you can do that but I really want you to know I appreciate you. I was in treatment a few months back for depression and stuff, and one of the few things I was allowed to do was watch some youtube videos, as long as staff was there to make sure it wasn't gonna trigger me. I spent ever hour of free time at that place watching your yuri on ice reactions and they helped me get through the hard and slow days. I know you're probably so busy reading other peoples comments, and this is an old Video... but I just really wanted to let you know how much you have helped me. I can't even explain why it helped me... it just did. it still does. I think it helps me to remember to take joy in the little things, the moments we take for granted, and to recognize our emotions for what they are, while at the same time keeping an upbeat attitude about life. If I ever get the chance to meet you, I'd probably just cry, but thank you so much for doing what you do and being yourself! I love you, Danny. no homo, and no hetero, lol
