Ive had a couple of these for a few months now. Not really any complaints so far once i threw a signal stick on it. Battery life is good, range is good for what it is, and all the features are nice. Definitely a step up from a baofeng in almost every aspect for almost the same price. The included antenna is straight junk like most rubber duckies.

@@temporarilyoffline I am holding off a while - 3-6 months - to see if they are really updating the H3s to be legal. Will likely buy three at that time - two for GMRS and one for vehicle ham use. Crossing fingers, Steve, that maybe this will work out. Love the form factor and features.

Steve, please indulge an old and slow ham, what are the dimensions of your little “ground plane gizmo” that you use to check the swr of the rubber duck style antennas? Does anyone sell that little widget? If not, what did you make it out of? Thanks in advance 😊

Good question - they don't sell it anymore and I need to update the test tig as a result. It's a thin piece of aluminum that works as a ground plane. It is 4.5x6.5in. The update would be to make a "tiger tail" for each 2m and 70cm that is a quarter wave and use that instead.

They are moving fast!

I sent my H3 back to Amazon because #1 the second PTT was so touchy it would TX with a slight touch. Then you press a little harder, it would quit TXing then press even harder and it would click and start TX again. I couldn't pick it up off of a table without TXing on the sub band. Second issue was on high power mine was only TXing at 3.8 watts on 2m but a full 5+ on 70cm into a dummy load. The third issue was it's first harmonic was just above the FCC limits. I could have overlooked the harmonic but that sub band PTT issue was the deal breaker.

I picked up a Tidradio h3 a few months after my Quansheng. I played with it for 2 days. I thought the programming options sounded cool but I found them meh. Went back to the Quansheng and still enjoying it.

I think the Quansheng is where its at! Other vendors should take note here. To Tinker is To Ham

regarding the squelch adjustment, it's not a live adjustment so you have to commit the choice to see what it sounds like. So 2 may have worked before going to 3, you have to click save to check.

The Tidradio link you gave appears to show two included antennas; one connected and one extra. Did you get two? I've seen other reviews where a second antenna was included under the box material.

I couldn't find a link to my exact model as shipped - they frequently change models/included parts. Its frustrating.

Yes! I say that every time I am presented with a card reader at a point of sale... or a roundabout on a highway carrying 5+ tons of weight at high speed.

Basically 5 watt radio based on the dummy load test. With the rubber duck it's in a power fold back condition in spite of the beauty ground plane you have most graciously provide.

When it gave you the "yes" or "not" option to unlock the freq, to select "yes", press the menu key, not the 1 key.

@@temporarilyoffline interesting. In the video it wasn't unlocked when you pressed 1, and I had the same experience with mine. When I did it again and pressed menu it was unlocked.

It be nice if other cheap radio manufacturers open up the firmware like the Quansheng , let the community improve and add features. When Quansheng comes out with a radio with color screen and a little more ram, they gonna sell a lot. The community has added spectrum analyzer and waterfall to a $30 dollar radio. it's crazy.

It's been happening on a lot of random devices lately.

I received a TD-H3 last week with DTMF keypad malfunctions and other problems. I wrote to TIDRADIO and also made a video with all the problems. They said they'll replace it for me but at the moment all is quiet. Let's see the seriousness of this company.

Can't speak to MacOS on the CH340 chipset, but they do work on Linux with no issues.
