Dude I bought a set of Sades 810s they was awesome and you pay between 20 and 75 pounds £ sterling but then I tried the 926t Sades and I was hooked no one person sneaks me in CoD. You should do a sades head set test for poor people ha ha or erm (Best Buget headsets below 50 bucks

My Guy try the audeze Penrose or the Maxwell OR for a budget planar magnetic gamer headset buy the new pulse elite form Sony they bought audeze and made that pulse elite I bought the pulse elite to replace my penrose and dam it’s extremely good and a fair price at 150.

All I know is I had my Astro a40s for 10 yrs and they still work fine lol

I bought the Kiwi Orchestra Lite's off of Art's recommendation and I also had the DT 900 Pro X's delivered today. One game on them and I think I might prefer the DT 900's. Seems to be more clarity than the the Kiwi's but not sure. Might just have to change in between each game and see what I prefer.

Great video and sums up my experience with expensive gaming headsets. They always seemed to just not be worth the money and was always overhyped. Subbed.

Just to note on headphone resistance numbers: higher impedance allows the driver to have a tighter response so its good to try to strike a balance between needing low enough power to run and having the sound you want. I use a set of Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 250ohm for PC gaming that sound absolutely amazing, but of course need an amp to really get the most out of them. For console I have a set of Sennheiser Game One's that are the predecessor to the Pc38x and have the same awesome mic, but they only cost $100 on Amazon.

Hey @ArtIsWar, do you have any tips/advice you can give for console gamers? Specifically for Xbox, my Dad plays on one and always complains about sound in warzone. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Change to PC

I use a $100 HyperX headset that works for both console and pc. Clear audio, mic doesn't pick up ambient noise like my AC, adjustable straps have metal bands for durability, no sweaty fake leather, nice comfortable fit. Only real downside is it's not 100% noise canceling.

Thanks for your knowledge mate, quick question - I enjoy my steelseries arctis 7 a lot in comfortability, however I noticed it only has 16bit audio while using wirelessly, should I go ahead ant switch to something wired and get 24bit quality? Is 16bit and 24bit noticable change for playing COD? Thanks!

Have the 38x and Nova’s and I mostly agree with you. Straight out the box without tuning the 38’s win and the mic is great. I have the Maxwells and love them. What are your thoughts on them?

Can't speak on the 38x, but apart from the ANC nub digging into my ears I didn't have any issue with the Nova's. The Maxwells are fantastic.

I have been using the HyperX Cloud 2 for about two years and have loved the comfort of it. It may not sound the same or best as others, I really enjoy it and recommend it.

I am very exited for your IEM Recommendations as someone who loves IEMs!

do you use a goxlr? and if so do u use the headphone output on it? just got a goxlr mini and I found the audio quality to be pretty noticeably worse compared to my motherboard audio.

@@oakenmausget an audio interface with mic monitoring. I use a Universal Audio Volt 1, but Schiit makes some, Fiio, focusrite, and so on. Just make sure that whatever interface you purchase, that you download the drivers otherwise you’ll have crazy delay on your monitoring. I’m using a UA Volt1, Rode Pod mic with a cloudlifter, Sennheiser HD560s and it’s great.

David Vonderhaar went from COD to sampling & testing best headsets. I can dig it.

Last year after about a decade that I had stopped gaming, I bought the razer barracudas v2 and man was I disappointed, but after going through 4 diff headsets I gave up and kept those. I was using them with a ps5 so I couldn’t adjust eq, I’ve since built my gaming pc and gave those barracudas to my 8yr old and started using my kz zs10 pro that I use when I play bass guitar and then using your audio eq has been a crazy change that I can’t see myself playing with big “gaming” headsets ever again

I just ordered a set of pc38X, so glad I seen this video before I bought some hyper x or steel series. Thanks 🙏

Steel Series are actually really good. But....never ever pay full price. You always find them on 50%+ discount somewhere online. Got mine for $54 after tax. They were supposed to be $150!

personally i'm using A40s that I got for 40 USD without the mixamp. with your settings on wavelink they are very good. i tried different IEMs but after an hour I need to take them out. keep up the good work!

Couldnt agree more. Been a musician for almost 2 decades, and used my old beyers (dt900, bought before the pro x released) and was looking into the sennheiser because they were the only mics i used. Now you have me looking in iems for gaming

After using DT 900 pro x and kiwi orchestra lite, I kept the OL. OL may sound flat and low bass, the clarity, sound stage and imaging in COD is next level. I can pin point where people are in Rebirth Island etc. because its low bass the footsteps are not as loud. Where as Dt900 pro x has more bass so foot steps much louder but to me it also sound crowded and more difficult to pinpoint enemies, however sound immersion is awesome. Thanks Art for the IEM recommendation.

I'm in the same boat as you. Had the Kiwi's for a couple weeks and just had the 900's arrive today. Footsteps defo better on the 900's but only had one game so far. Going to have to chop and change between games I think and see what I prefer. Kiwi's seem a bit washed out in comparison.

@@VTGALLDAY amazing. It is a tad clustered if you have loads of people in your building but not sure anything could isolate that better. I at least know someone is there so have my whits about me. Couple of times I'd definitely have reported me (if I were the other player) for what looks like blatant wall hacks, just good audio. The kiwi's for a me feel a bit washed out but only tried them in Rebirth which has garbage audio. They're brilliant in MP though but couldn't say any better than the DT900's. In that regard for me it's preference as to IEM of headphone.

I've had a pair of Beyerdynamic DT 1990 Pros for about 5 years, use them for gaming and music listening, and they've never disappointed me, love them to death. Last year, I bought my first set of IEM's, the Linsoul Kiwi Ears Orchestra Lites, and boy, do they sound really good. I now use the 1990s for more single-player games to get that wide soundstage/immersive feeling and use the orchestra lites for stuff like competitive shooters. I run them both through a Fiio K5 Pro dac/amp and actually use the steelseries software to route all of my audio and customize the EQ. If you have any other suggestions on ways to improve my sound setup, fire away!

+1 on the Sennheiser open backs, just get a modmic and you are good to go. Way better and more comfortable than any gaming sets out there.

Apple Earpods the wired ones with the 3.5 mm jack has Mic 20$ in bestbuy or 19$ in the apple store i think there awesome for the price and could use them for your phone. used to use them back in the day in my PS4 on BO3 lol

For console I wouldn't bother with IEMs. He recommended the Sennheiser PC38X's and if I was still playing on console, that's what it'd use. Great sound quality, a decent microphone built in, and you can plug it right into the controller. Also if you ever switch to PC it has a separate cable included that has the mic and audio on separate lines.

Art i need that IEM video like warzone needs a good anticheat! Im holding off on buying some...when you do it could you also recommend some we can find in the UK as some of those on amazon aren't available here. keep up the great work ❤

KZ ZX 10 PRO are better than my jbl quantum 800 and steel series cans that cost way more. They are very very loud i honestly think they can blow my eardrums. I use them at 16-18% in warzone

Of course IEMs are gonna be better sound. They are made for musicians. Problem with IEM headsets like these for console players is there isn’t a mic attached. So as good as an effort of a video this was… u just created another problem. And cheap stand up mic is gonna pick up too much background noise. So when you talk about better options… make sure you are inclusive of the whole gamer community and fully think thru ur advice

there are cables that have boom mics for iems specifically with the intent of fixing that one issue you present. Feel free to look into the Kinera Celeste Ruyi, the Kinera Gramr, and the Antlion Kimura.

I've honestly switched to IEMs earbuds. Simgot EM6L are great for a cheapers price, they go for $150. You can hear the highs and lows very well. But the Linsoul Kiwi are amazing, but they are more right around $250. Honestly this has been a game changer since I play FPS games like mw3.

What do you think about the higher end Corsair’s? I’m interested to know your opinion?

I’m an old gamer, I was gaming on a 386 and before that amstrad and Sinclair and I’ve had all the earphones, all of them, I’ve probably got 10 headsets hanging around the house, most of them go to my children, Astro is the only one that has everything I need. The A40 cannot be beaten in the price range. Your mileage may vary but for me that is it. Whatever you are plugging into adds more price on to the purchase anyway. The need to make content has sent you down a path that doesn’t serve most people. Choosing headsets that have no microphone just makes zero sense and half the things you talk about being bad on the astros seem to not be other people’s experience.

I've been using my Corsair Virtuoso Pros since release. They have been the best headsets I've used and they sound surprisingly good too.

If you're a competitive gamer the best possible choice you can make is switching to pc. If you're not gonna switch, you don't care enough.

What would be your opinion on the Sennheiser HD 800 S be for gaming?

When I built my rig about 10 years ago (have upgraded since) I got a set of Razer Krakens which I liked but were unfortunately did not last very long and just got a mike and used cheap iem's then I started watching Drop for some nice but not crazy expensive and got a pair of Meze Noir 99's (think they were about $200 the regular ones are 300ish on the Meze site) which also came with both cables and before that I upgraded my mike but it is not a crazy expensive one either think it was around 20 bucks. Highly recommend getting a desk mic and if you really want better sound for music as well then splurge on the headphones, do some research find ones that meet your requirements. Good info, nice vid.

The Nova Pro's aren't anywhere near as bad as he's making them out to be. I get the feeling that he went into this with a massive bias built up and didn't really give either the A40's or the Nova Pro's a real chance.

I don't know how to check for an answer to a question. I have been buying gaming headsets that have 7.1 channel sound support, which I use when watching movies with surround sound when not gaming. I am assuming that they are using only two drivers with the 7.1 channels virtualized in software (some faking of binaural sound phasing?). Am I correct, or are there more drivers in these headsets that I don't see listed on the box?

What did you mean about the receiving audio from your GoXLR? Did you mean from the GoXLR then connected to the SMSL?

I always try to explain how much cleaner and more detailed the audio sounds with IEM's and no one ever believes me

Audiophile* and Astros are trash. I'm not paid by Sennheiser and I guarantee you if you listened to my 6XX headphones you wouldn't have the opinion you have. I've owned Astro a40s and I thought they were good until I heard some actual good headphones.

The sound blaster DAC/amps are never worth it, in my opinion. Better options that don't change the soundstage. For console he recommended the Sennheiser PC38X's and if I was still playing on console, that's what it'd use. Great sound quality, a decent microphone built in, you can plug it right into the controller, and it has a separate cable for PC that has the mic and audio on separate lines.

What do you think of Audeze I was using Astroa50s for like 5 years. Got the Penrose and it was night and day, using the Sonar Steel Series Mixer and its so good !! I wanna get the Maxwell next

I'm using the SteelSeries Gamedac gen 2 to drive the Antlion Kimura Duo IEMs. This setup is mostly for playing Tarkov. Is this setup okay or should I upgrade to the Orchestra Lites and a Schiit Hel plus for an even better experience?

So I can just connect an iem to my ps5 controller and have it sound better than the astro a50s?

Hey Art, love your work man, unfortunately I'm a ps5 user so can't take advantage of most of your stuff. I have however purchased the cheap pair of IEMs you recommended and they arrive today. Would you recommend plugging them into the astro mixamp or straight into the ps5 controller? Thanks 👍

Hi art I currently have the Astro a40s with the mix amp pro ( on Xbox series x ) I have just ordered the KZ ZAR iem with mic do you know if these will work with my mix amp pro ??

I have roccat elo 7.1 air for under 100$ can you compare it to a high end headset, I do find it works better on pc then console cause the software tuning provided.

I really need wireless and with mic (currently have Corsair Void), any recommendations?

Do you recommend the DT 1990 Pro vs the DT 990 Pro X? is there a big difference? Just wondering if it was worth it

I have been through a lot of "gaming headsets" over the years..I ended up settling on a set of AKG K612 Pro Open Reference headphones.. great positional audio and enough bass but not too "boomy".

how do you feel about crinacle zero x truthear? currently rocking beyerdynamic dt 990s and want to try IEMS for gaming

I would like to vouch for those beyerdynamic DT 900 pro x’s. They are far and away better than my old astro a40’s. That being said, I’m still using the mixamp from them with the 900’s and I feel like the imaging through the mixamp gets a bit difficult to sort out. Is there a DAC I can use with my pc setup that doesn’t require a go xlr and will give a better experience to tell where sound comes from? (To replace the mixamp I am still using not in addition to it)

@@phillyperez6699I like the Dolby atmos sound of the Astro amp. I guess could always just download Dolby atmos on pc to pair with another amp for that immersive 3d sound? Idk

well i have a entire steel series headset and pc setup and never looked back love em(especially getting the headset full wireless for 5 bucks at a liquidation store for the low for also brand new still in the box new)

So, if I buy one of these IEMs to replace my Astro a40's can I still use the Mixamp? Only reason why I ask is because I run a Dual Pc and the way it's setup and I can't remove it. Thanks

Love my Corsair Virtuoso XT it comes with Dolby Access, I don't love the Corsair EQ but that fixes it on PC. Also co-sign the Chu for gaming, they're insanely accurate and have crisp sound.

Questions I have, right now just using a mackie mc 250 headset. Going to switch to an iem soon after seeing a couple of your videos. But is it better to be plugged into the motherboard or case? Also when pc is running a game there’s a buzz that sounds like it’s coming from the cpu area and can hear it in my headset sometimes. Is there a way to fix that

You would still recommend the PC38x over the nova pros even with the ability to EQ your headset or are you saying just straight out of the box the PC38x sound better than the nova pros with out EQ involved.

They sound better out of the box, and you can in fact EQ the PC38x. EQ is software based, not hardware. The responsiveness to EQ can be affected by hardware limits, but EQ itself is a software function. The Novas just come with a USB DAC that's control software has EQ options built in, while for the PC38x you will need a separate software that you aren't given instuctions for in the box.

Pc38x user here. I've been using mine for over 5 years and I love them. Best built in mic I've ever used and the audio is super clear (especially coming from razer headphones). Only problem was that the mic switch died around the 4 year mark and about 6 months ago I started hearing a strange pop at one frequency

I love my PC38X headset! I would recommend buying them direct from Drop as they regularly have them on sale. I picked mine up for only $139! I’d also highly recommend the PC37X headset! Only $120 but also regularly on sale under $100 direct through Drop which is a steal! I’ve gifted a pair of those to 2 of my best friends and converted them to higher quality audio for gaming! Also open back headphones just add so much to soundscape when gaming! 🙌🏼

totally overhyped headset not worth it

I’ve bought hyper x headsets simply for comfort feel, I can wear them for hours without noticing them. I stopped here to learn about quality comparisons, haven’t delved down this rabbit hole yet, what are your thoughts on the audeeze gaming headset? Is it marketing fluff, or are planar drivers worth the cost?

I like having my phone and pc connected at the same time on my steel series. I also have astro a40s and studio headphones. Steel series sonar which can be used on any headphones, makes it easy to adjust sound for any game.

I use the Geshelli labs amp/dac (archel 3 pro and J2AK4499), harmonicdyne zeus elite headphones, and a GOXLR for my warzone gaming. Would love to see a video discussing any of those. I feel like I not get the maximum out of my setup! Maybe because of the GOXLR is muffling the sound? I’m not really a sound guy, but did get my setup to work.

Have the PC38x for a couple of years already and yeah there great for gaming and everything else! Very comfortable to wear. And they are open ear so you can still hear your surroundings when someone talks to you.
