Better Than Duct Tape - Emergency Self Fusing Silicone Tape

Throw your electricians tape away. Forget duct tape. For repairs on electrical wires, radiator hoses, fuel lines, etc. nothing is better than this amazing Emergency, self-fusing, Silicone Tape. This tape is not sticky. The glue won't melt when it is hot or come undone on dusty hoses. Emergency Self Fusing Silicone Tape is one item to have with you on road trips and in your tool case. Check out my other videos at www.earthquakeguru.com
This Emergency Self-fusing Tape is too cheap not to have in your bug out bag, tool case, get home bag, etc.

I had Blue Monster self-fusing silicon tape on hand during the Texas freeze last month. I was able to repair a burst pipe (a split about 2" long) and it's still holding a month later!

I used something similar years back, it's thicker and extremely elastic. I had a really old vehicle that I was trying to repair and was moving it about 30 mins to my house when a huge section of the radiator hose blew out. Found it at a store and believe it's from 3M but I TIGHTLY wrapped a few laps around the hole and it was suddenly a fully functional hose again. The self adhesion nature of it and the amount of pressure you can put down with the stretch action it has allowed that pipe to last months longer before a special order came in to properly replace it. This type of tape is a must have for sure but I'd say electrical tape still has a place in certain use cases.

Thank you for this video. i bought tape this months ago and when I opened the package and checked the tape, I thought it was a defective item because it was not sticky. Upset and disappointed, I set it aside and held it for months and never took it back to the store to complain. Again, I was at the hardware store today and having forgotten I bought this tape in the past, I bought it again. Brought it home and again it does not stick. "Aaaaah! I can't believe it, another defective tape". Instead of being angry and setting it aside, I thought it would be best to see what I can learn about this tape on You Tube. And here you are with the answer. Now I have two roles that I'm sure I'll be able to use some day and I will not be tossing them. Haha, Thank you!

Used this stuff on a ruptured drain pipe under a kitchen sink. Used all ten feet of it I bought for $4.97. It's a little tricky to work with at first, but there is no possible way I will see a drop of water from that repair. The tape works as the video claims. A plumber would have charged me $100 just to show up. I did a permanent fix for $5. Great stuff.

*Excellent* Demo of this product! Thanks!!! I'm about to mend a broken hose in my fish pond. It cracked just a few inches from where it heads up to the waterfall. I was going to use a new coupler (that they DON'T really make for this type of job)....needless to say, I just bought 3 of these. I have enough projects that can always use this tape if needed. And, well, one is for my sons home, too. He'll probably use or need it more than me. Thanks again for the great demo. It TRULY shows it's real capabilities.

I've been using the 3m self bonding tape on job for some time. Sealed underwater pump cable splices and opened them after 2 years and there was no trace of water or moisture at all (if applied correctly). Also super good when working in refrigeration applications with low temperature warehouse storage repairs. Now my coolant hose is bulging a bit. Gonna reinforce it with some of it, i bet it will last for another year.

It worked, clear generic silicone tape, on a leaking oil cooler line that has up to 65psi of hot oil in it. It was leaking 1 quart every 200 to 300 miles and now it's leaking none. 350 miles later of mountain, Interstate, and town driving. Used 2 hours of time (half was cleaning hose) and a $7 10' roll of silicone tape that I wanted to test. Took about 30" of clear tape to do one end of the hose while on the car. I prefer the clear as it allows me to see through it. I developed a technique to do it in tight space. Gave it 3 overlapping layers in a different pattern. Straight wrap, diagonal, then straight again. Any pattern works but important to have different seal points of different wrapping and do it as tight as you can, with space provided. Also important to squeeze and rub firmly on it to get each layer to fuse for 5 minutes or so before the next layer and the final layer. If it's higher than 65psi I would also place single double wrapped pieces directly over the leak, for extra strength material before the first layer of the 3 wraps. Or wrap it 4 times.

There is a plastic liner between the layers, keep that liner of it will bond to itself and you have a silicon version of a hockey puck. It’s great stuff. Near permanent, but be aware you do need to cut it off.

I hate electrical tape. I've used fusion tape for years but it's also annoying, it has a big flaw, if any dust at all gets on the tape before applying or after, it will peel off and won't ever stick again... If you get oil on the silicone it will also slip and won't stick. I'm a mechanic n I've had it fail a ton of times.. I'm gonna start using kapton tape for electrical insulation and fusion for mostly thermal insulation

In my 2000 Elantra wagon, the hatch open dash light turns off when the hatch is open and on when it's closed. I had to disconnect the wiring temporarily to stop the battery from draining. Plan to find the short and fix this summer. This tape seems to be the perfect wrap for after the issue is fixed.

You won't be able to undo the tape even after a few minutes. You'd have to cut it off and start over. In that 24 hour period you can put tape over the top of the repair you already did and it will stick together. But like I said, you can't "unwind" the tape, it is fused together. Hope that helps.

Since the wire will come in contact with itself at some point, being on headphone wires, it would bind to itself again. Best used for wires, hoses, etc. where it won't move around.

shawn cordeiro the tape is so stretchy that it doesn’t need to bond to the hose since it binds to itself. Because it is so stretchy, it will form a very tight seal. Buy some and play with it. It doesn’t cost much.

Alma Lucero May have dust on it or is it old? I noticed that my older tape wouldn’t stick together any longer so I bought some new tape

I know. I was messing with you because you mentioned it about 10 times in the video LOL. I do appreciate your video. I will be buying some this weekend to try on a leak in a hose on my equinox. Thanks.

Ben Watmough No, not at all, that’s what’s great about it. It does stick to itself pretty quickly though.

I reckon you have not done it properly. The way you have shown it is not totally correct. This tape with not adhesive is not meant to stick together like glue but the principle behind this is using traction(friction). This means it will hold themselves when you stretch the tape and put them together. So in short, one has to stretch the tape a bit and then wrap round (overlapping) the hose where is needed to be repaired or covered up a few round. Once this is done, you can not undo it like what you have shown at the beginning of the video. The only way to remove the tape is to slit it and then throw it away. It can not be reused as it will stick together like a lump.

Guys/gals, use Flex Seal Tape. It works even being applied in water. It will work on everything as long as it doesn't get over 130°F or pressurized like a radiator hose. As for high pressure hoses, gorilla tape.

Not true!!! It doesn't work under pressure; the company said so on another video where he compared it to silicone self-fusing tape and Flex Seal failed miserably!!

This silicon self fusing tape will not last more than a few hours at best on any rubber hoses under your hood subjected to heat between 200-300° and pressure between 17-40 psi. Absolutely bogus.
