Good news, now they are! It's called "1.1.1.1 with WARP", which is technically a VPN (even though they say it's kinda not intended to be), but it works!

@@KROSKI_y Let me guess, your DNS is in your network? Remember a locally run DNS server still needs a fallback server. CloudFare and AdGuard DNS are still great for that purpose.

Have you ever mistyped a web address and got redirected to an ad? That happened because the ISP found that the address you typed didn't have a valid IP address and hence resolved to the IP address of the ad provider. Hence selling YOU! 1.1.1.1 does not do this. They simply inform that given site was not found.

In IOS 12.2 on iPhone you can run 1.1.1.1 AND a true VPN at the same time. It's in Settings/General/VPN. Use 1.1.1.1 in 'VPN Configurations' and Your Main VPN (Nord etc') in Personal VPN - both on the same screen. Easy :)

Google doesn't sell data to companies or anyone, it is much more profitable to keep it for themselves and then sell advertising services to companies that only they can provide because they have the data and the "smarts" for it.

Nor cloudflare, you should use quad9 instead which is still pretty fast and is really privacy oriented because it's a not-for-profit public-benefit organization whereas cloudflare is a company that make his business by selling user data. It's still far from the best because the dns queries are still uncrypted and your ISP can still see them so if you really want privacy use dnscrypt.

If you have an android. Download Blokada, it comes with 1.1.1.1 and ad blocking so pages load even faster!

Okay, so here is my problem with 1. , I love it and it's great and actually works. It's just with 1. address (I don't use the app because of android 9) some ISP's and networks actually DON'T allow you to connect at them at all. Now it would be fine if this was like 5-10% of networks but this is like half. It's quite disappointing that ISP's don't allow custom DNS's at all.

You cannot have 2 VPN's = wrong :) It's called routing. IE: set 0.0.0.0 to resolve in one vpn and add an exception lice 192.168.2.0/16 to resolve in a different gateway in the second VPN. You wanna do this if for example you work with multiple company's as a contracted IT consultant so that you don't need to switch connections all the time.

Linus, please correct me if I'm wrong but system/network engineers used to use 1.1.1.1 for testing servers or connections and sometimes kept them at 1.1.1.1 DNS. This means constant drop offs, I changed my router directly to hit DNS 1.1.1.1 and every day or two I will get drop offs, I changed it back to 8.8.8.8 and no issues at all. can you please give me your advise on this ?

Changed my router to it so all DNS is handled by it & set globally on my OnePlus 6T Android Pie, but as Linus correctly stated the stupidity of the pro in iOS! If anything, it could draw attention from your ISP. If you use a VPN then you use their DNS servers. No advantage.

I've been using DNS servers 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1 on my Xbox One X for a little while now. The lag in the user interface was unbearable using default settings, now it's very smooth!

I love how I've been through all of this stuff whilst studying for my degree, yet here I am still watching the video just because I find the format and conciseness interesting.

I set up 1.1.1.1 on my router after LTT’s first video about it. Seemed like a good idea. Several months go by and everything was fine. Then started random instances of not having an internet connection. I’d be connected to my network just fine but couldn’t load or access anything on the internet. This would happen randomly and wouldn’t resolve itself for hours. I disabled it and never had an issue again. Later got a new router but never configured it to go to 1.1.1.1. Finally decided to try it again after seeing this new video. Fine for an hour and a half, and then all of a sudden the loss of internet access again. Which has never happened to me with this new router until now. I think I’m staying away from this 1.1.1.1 junk for good.

My ISP DNS resolves between 6 and 8ms typically. That’s probably cached sites, but frankly, I very rarely visit sites that are niche enough to not be caches. It’s mostly YT and Wiki really. It’s really quite a good DNS, and we’ve got solid privacy laws anyway. Though that was loosened up a bit under the last government sadly.

I never get out of home, i can do It manually just once

You can set a custom DNS server in the PIA VPN app and still use both the VPN and the private DNS.

This reminds me when I switched to Hemptimol. Decisions decisions

I think maybe a video about Pi-hole might be a good idea.

I have never had issues with Wi-Fi at home. But then again, I live in a small two bedroom apartment. LOL
