Jonathan Banks was nominated for an Emmy for this scene, but Peter Dinklage won for GOT. Even he said that Jonathan should have won.

That was robbery. Sheer robbery.

Which scene from GoT
This is why Mike sacrificed so much for Jesse, he saw him as a surrogate son and a chance to redeem himself for failing his real son.

Yep. It was actrually Jonathan Banks during BB Season 3 who had the idea that Mike's son died. Of course he didn't come up with the whole cop plot, but when they were doing Season 4, both Banks and the writers had that in mind, and were obviously using that for the Jesse storyline.

I must have missed the episode of Breaking Bad where Mike "sacrificed so much" for Jesse.

@@sparksdrinker5650 IKR! Mike obviously took a liking to Jesse and often tried to talk some sense into him, but that was about it.
Laci: I love the comedic relief! Next episode: Five-O Me: Uh oh

Mike broke into their car before to plant the revolver for himself, because he knew they'd take away his other gun.

@@CraigKostelecky Didn't look like it. I guess they can prove me wrong. Maybe they just didn't verbailze it because it was too obvious.
Jonathan Banks should have gotten an Emmy he more than deserves it, especially after all the other seasons after.

Agreed!!
I had put off watch BCS because I loved BB so much. I finally gave it a shot when I was looking for something to binge last year. I was kind of half watching it up to this point thinking, “Ok, this isn’t bad. Kinda fun to see everyone and they aren’t ruining anything from BB. Nice little bonus.” Then this episode happened and I had to pick my jaw up off the floor. Binged the rest of season 1-3 over the next couple of days, but this was the first moment where I went, “OH. This show is it’s own thing...., and it’s amazing.”

For me, it enhances both BrBa and BCS with all the call backs, call forward, references, Easter eggs, etc. BCS is another masterpiece.

Loving this show/period!
That “I broke my boy” speech gives me so manny chills every time! Jonathan Banks is an incredible actor
Jonathan Banks 'I broke my boy" is so gut wrenching every time I watch it. Incredible performance!
This episode was my favorite of the season. Jonathan Banks was robbed of an Emmy, even Peter Dinklage, who won at that time, said in his speech he deserved it more

GoT was too popular, this show was my favorite, still is. (Sigh)
"I broke my boy" That line the first time I saw this episode broke me. You've never seen Mike this emotional until this episode. I cried so much with him telling this story. Straight up ugly tears. I was angry when he didn't win an Emmy just for that scene alone.
Jimmy didn’t spill the coffee because he felt bad for mike. He spilled the coffee because he’s Jimmy.

and because he felt bad for Mike
Man I love this episode.. Mike is such a great character.. complicated and conflicted all the way thru.. BCS does an amazing job taking these characters we already know from BB and building layers upon layers while staying true to who they eventually become.. one of the best shows I’ve ever watched for sure..
I think this episode solidified my love for this show and knew that it was gonna be a worthy prequel for breaking bad
I think I remember hearing that back during 'Breaking Bad'........when we first saw the character of Mike, was when he showed up at Jessie's apartment after Jane died. To tell Jessie what to say to the police. Remember that? The story goes that the original script called for Saul to show up at Jessie's. However.....Bob Odenkirk ( who was also a standup comedian at the time...)....had previous commitments to appear for a couple of shows back east, and couldn't be in Alberqurque for the shoot. So the character of Mike was created to fill in....& Jonathan Banks got the gig.
This will forever be a top 5 BCS episode. Legendary af‼️
One of my favorite episodes of the whole show. Jonathan banks completely kills his performance. I still cant get through the "i broke my boy" speech. Mike is such a good character.
Gives you more insight into why Mike was doing what he was doing..to provide for his family and then Walt mucked it all up.
Poor Mike! After all the shit hes been through, he dies because of some high school chem teacher who has an ego!
“I broke my boy” I think Mike broke Steve and Lacey too in this episode 😛
What a performance, gets me every time. Such a good episode. I'd watch a whole TV series about this stuff. Seems like Mafia, Goodfellas type of crime drama.
“I broke my boy” Jonathan Banks delivers such a powerful performance here. I was in such awe the first time I saw that and that feeling does not lessen with repeated viewing. He was nominated for “Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series” in 2015 because of this. He lost to Peter Dinklage from GOT. Dinklage, after winning the Emmy, singles out J. Banks by name. Peter thought Jonathan should have won. I loved Dinklage's trial performance but I agree Banks should have won. You can KZread search their names under “Emmy 2015 Peter Dinklage Jonathan Banks” if you wish to see this.

Dinklage's trial performance wasn't even the episode that he won the Emmy for. The trial was what he was nominated for the previous year (and lost to Aaron Paul's performance in Confessions where Jesse figures out that Walt poisoned Brock). Dinklage won for Hardhome where he's convincing Daenerys to let him be her advisor.
It's fun to remember that the only reason Mike Ehrmantrout even exists is because Bob Odenkirk had a scheduling conflict for the day they were supposed to shoot the scene where he comes to clean up Jesse's apartment the morning after Jane died. Rather than reschedule shooting, they said "maybe Saul could send someone else," and hired Jonathan Banks to do the scene in his place. That led to Mike, which led all the way to this.
This was an amazing episode. Mike's back story is gut reaching. I'm glad they showed who he is and what he does.
all the flashbacks have that blueish hue
i never noticed he was walking normal in the bar at first, very good observation
Such a gripping episode. Janathan Banks deserved an emmy for this.
this was the episode that really made me realize how good this show could be
When I was an active opiate addict, the price was usually a dollar per milligram. (20 milli = 20$).
You may not have recognised Stacey Ehrmantraut (mikes daughter inlaw) but we saw her 2 years earlier on TWD - She was the Survivor who lead Rick out into the woods to meet her husband "Eddie" who was just a head and killed herself to be with him and rick left her to turn - We then saw her again the day the Prison Fell she was one of the walkers who entered the prison just after Daryl blew up the tank.
Yes, good reaction
They did let it go, but the new young cop is not dirty and doesn't know the history and just wanted to solve the crime.
this still is my fave episode of BCS
I suppose someday, if I keep watching reaction videos like this, I'll eventually be able to get through that "I broke my boy" moment without tearing up. Hasn't happened so far.
one of the best episodes in the whole series imo
I liked Mike as a character, but we didn’t really get to see as much depth with him as we do here. The scene with him and his daughter-in-law at the end was so brilliantly acted. So far, this has been an excellent spin-off of Breaking Bad. The acting and writing was consistently good, and this has been no slouch either. I can’t wait to see where this show goes. My husband and I have been totally hooked.
OHHH i never thought of why he was using a revolver. thank you!!!
This show is already a neo noir but this episode is so over the top noir it's glorious.
You guys are lucky to get to watch this amazing show for the first time. I went into it after Breaking Bad unsure what to expect, as in all honesty most prequels or sequels are not that great. But this is totally different. It is it's own thing, yet connected to Breaking Bad and it is amazing.
Best epsiode in season 1
Unpopular opinion: “five-o” is better than “ozymamdias”
Why is it that everyone gets so confused at first about how Mike is related to her??? This shit isn’t that complicated lol.

@@CraigKostelecky Well I mean it's established in Breaking Bad Kaley is his granddaughter. And she has the same last name as him.
im really glad you seem to be sticking with this, i can tell you guys are kinda bored, this is the first really good episode though and by the end of season 1 you wont be able to stop yourself from binging. after that its just an incredible show. season 1 really does take awhile to get going though lol
Same revolver as Walt
check out outer banks
Hi, you should really work on sound, your voices are ok, but the show's sound is bad, I think you need to watch it with headphones and edit the original sound so we get better quality. Sound quality is more important than video quality to attaract viewers on KZread, in case you weren't aware.
Do a Chernobyl series! It's really good and only 5ep. I'm sure it will be worth it. C:
