Let's be honest, Daenerys is the epitome of a character with a Slytherin mind and a Hufflepuff heart. The 7th and 8th seasons ruined her character: she was always the determined and ambitious ruler whose heart beat along the people's. Yes she was ruthless when it came to her enemies, yes she was arrogant (she was a queen and had bloody dragons, hard to not let it get to your head a bit!), and yes she at times let her temper rule her actions, but she never crossed the line/killed innocents. She was a girl who only wanted to find a home and belong. A woman who survived the worst and wanted to do good, to leave a long lasting legacy of justice and fairness so that no one would ever have to go through what she experienced. She was meant to blossom from a scared, lonely, abused "beggar princess", to a strong leader who would change the world and the meaning of the name Targaryen. When does righteous anger, ambition, arrogance and fear of losing what one has built equate with going mad?? Robert was worse than her but no one is saying he was mad! If her descent into madness had been perfectly prepared and had spanned across a minimum of 3 seasons instead of being rushed and senseless, I could have understood D&D's choice (though not agreed)... But let's be honest, the " all single women in power are dangerous and have to be put down by a man" trope is getting old. This wasn't subverting expectations, it was the most cruel character destruction in TV history, and that's it.

Disagree - she always demonstrated a proclivity for power and a large ego. The idea of her lashing out violently on a whim is formed early in the series. George R.R. Martin loves nothing more than subverting idealistic fantasy tropes. The song reflects that - her voice in the lyrics is clearly self-righteous and grandiose.

@@GestaltCipher no, her character has been changed even from season 1, when they took away her prophetic dreams and made Jorah a 'good man' when he's a full pedo in the books. Season 2 is one of the biggest examples of how much they changed her story and the Meereen arc too. She could have sailed for westeros many times, in the books Quentyn Martell goes to her, offering a marriage proposal, she could had left Meereen with Dorne by her side supporting her. She stays in Meereen, to keep protecting her people, even the Dornish are angry because 'she's more interested in planting trees than taking her father throne back'. And let me tell you, there's nothing 'subverting' in making a powerful queen going 'mad' and be killed, that's one of the oldest tropes (the good boy/man that has to kill the so dangerous and powerful witch/queen). The villainization of women in power is a bad trope and also, a thing that still happens in real life.

This song reminds me of Cassandra from Tangled: The Series. But on a serious note, this song packs a punch. It’s so well written. The music itself practically tells a story and the video certainly helps too. But the music and lyrics are definitely the best part.

The cello has always been by far my favorite instrument and the jnstrumental solo was absolutely beautiful. The whine and scream of the bow on the strings grabbed my soul and refused to let go.

I've not seen a single episode of game of thrones so naturally I see it from many alternate perspectives in fiction, history & reality. I really enjoyed this from the perspective of a character I was writing about in a novel some time back. Listening to it now I got a shiver & a chill that went both up & down my spine three~four times. You probably won't like to hear this because it could ruin your preconceptions regarding this song but the lyrics remind me of current events in a BAD way. There's a certain individual seeking to raise an empire, he's willing to pay any price, shed any amount of blood, render cities to dust & turn a blind eye to the worst kind of war crimes. Deeper into the lyrics it talks about loneliness at the top. Our media has described this individual as isolated & separated from all but a handful of elites. If that is not loneliness then what is? Madness & greatness can both share a face? Once again. Many within the heart of his would-be empire support his ambitions & campaign of conquest therefore view him as great; Yet for many beyond those borders we see it all as an act of complete madness. Love me or hate me it's all the same? We see how hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions, of people from the heart of his would-be empire have fled their homeland for the ruination they anticipate befalling it due to his insane ambitions OR being forced to put their lives on the line to see them realized. At the same time this individual acts as though he cares nothing for how roughly half of the developed world views his actions. With just one word I'll let this world burn? That's probably the part that really gave me a shiver. I'm old enough to remember the duck & cover drills, the heightened tensions between the United States & Soviet Union as well as what that meant as far as nuclear war potential. It was terrifying but even then we all knew the leaders of both countries had open channels of communications. That is not so between this would-be Emperor & those whom stand against him; My nation being a strong facilitator to the one which stands immediately between him & his ambitions. Therefore nobody actually knows what he's thinking. Nobody knows what the leader of my country is thinking either ... no ... most of us probably realize that he isn't the one doing the thinking in the first place. Therefore we have even less of an idea of what each side plans. I could prattle on even more in this interpretation but I feel this is more than enough. Many will disagree I'm sure & that's fine. I just wanted to share how this song hit me after not hearing it for a while.

"So fear me or love me, It's all the same." Any kind of relationship because of if someone hurts the person.

The violin 🎻 soloist piece near the end gave me chills and made me feel emotions I never though were possible. It deserves way more acclaim than it currently has and I give it a standing ovation 👏🏾 for this flawless and pristine piece of art within an equally amazing song!
