BetaFPV 4S AIO Flight & Review (85X HD | 12A AIO | 5000KV)

Can the new 12A AIO flight controller really handle 4S? Is it even a good idea? I put one in my 85X HD to find out!

    Thanks for the overview! I have a GEPRC board here and look forward to testing it. BTW great tip to actually join 2 wires and then solder to the pad. So simple! To your question: to me 2-3S are great with 2''-3'' props. 4S is almost suited for even larger builds! At the same time there was so many boards burning that I hope this overkill makes the boards more reliable. Let's see :)

  • @MrShutterBug

    @MrShutterBug

    5 жыл бұрын

    The 85x HD is very heavy for the prop size, so washouts are possible. I think the 5000 and 6000kv motors don’t provide enough thrust on 3S to make up for the weight. It flies better on 4S but 4S batteries add even more weight, and the original 85x sometimes fails on 4S. So... it’s tricky. These components would fly better on a frame with 2.5” or 3” props, or it would fly better if it were lighter weight, like my ShutterBug 85 design. Good luck!

    Thanks for the this video, Do you suggest connecting the camera direct to battery input leads? (spec says Power Input: DC 4.5-20V) I was powering my caddx from tbs nano 32, but after few flights, fc stopped powering the vtx and 5v pad out will now output only 2.5 v, not enough for the vtx to run. Also, does sharing power between receiver and camera cause any performance issues? TIA

    NocturnalScreamer I haven’t had any performance issues yet. Powering the cam from vbat would take some load off the 5v regulator and would probably work fine. Minor downside is that the mah used by the camera would no longer be counted by the current sensor.

    fantastic review as always ... its a pleasure to watch your videos. do you think betafpv will replace the esc (not burned) of the first generation as they promised? i bought 1 beta85x hd crsf and 1 beta85x not hd crsf in the first batch with 16 lipo 4s 450mah and 1 week after receiving my 2 beta they made the announcement to not fly them in 4s or they would revoke their guarantee, you can imagine that I did not buy 3s lipo after spending so much money on this 2 beta85 plus lipo lolll so since February 27, 2019 I have $ 550 canadian dollar of beta85x that sleeps on the tablet. And the sale & complaints departement just postpone month after month telling us ( we must test them more )over again and again. and honestly after seeing your video test on the new board all my fears are dispelled for the esc fires. but they will still postpone the deadlines and maybe can be saved some esc from the customer exhausting to hear false promise and stop writing them for a replacement I find it combletely pathetic and fraudulent on their part I live in Quebec in Canada We have unimaginable winter so the whoop are indispencable here, I spend more than $ 1200 Canadian dollar on betafpv products. beta65x, beta75x couple to do shutterbug85 2s, pro2 75 ect ect and one thing is sure .. i will never spend any penny in this shitty company that does not respect their promise. We are hundreds in the same situation and we have no concrete answer from them and most of the time they do not answer us at all ... what a shame , and honestly what are our possibilities except trying to find someone who makes them understand the importance of keeping the promises they made in selling their products. I have finished lollllll I am really sorry to annoy you with this problem so you are not responcable but I tell myself if I do not try all the best i can to make things happen nothing will happen and I know that your opinion matters a lot to them. I tried to explain to them what was the false representation and the respect of the promises made to there loyal customer but they do not seem to know this concept maybe you would be able to explain to them lollll anyway continue your good job @Mr ShutterBug ! 75% of what i know about whoop i learned from you and i thank you very much for that good evening ps sorry again

  • @MrShutterBug

    The 85X today comes with a two board FC/ESC stack. That would be tricky to mount in the Tadpole frame. You would want an AIO FC like the one I showed in this video. Also the 85X comes with 1105 motors. Those motors are great for a light 3" build but I think they are overkill for 65mm props (and super overkill for 2" props like the 85X). If I were building a Tadpole, I would probably put 1103s on it. Hope that helps.

    The early 85X models had ESCs that would sometimes fail on 4S but if you have blheli_32 then I think yours must be newer. So it would be safe. Still you may choose to use 3S because those batteries tend to be lighter.

  • @MrShutterBug

    @MrShutterBug

    4 жыл бұрын

    BetaFPV says that both the FC and motors should change to be reliable on 4S. Personally, I flew the original 85X on 4S without changing either. It's not like it's guaranteed to fail... but it can. I think you would be pretty safe running the new FC with your existing motors, as long as you don't plan on racing (high throttle for extended duration). No matter what you decide, I suggest you start gentile, and check for heat buildup in the motors before you go crazy.

    If you get a 1S drone then you'll want a charger specific to those batteries. They are relatively cheap and super easy. If you want a drone that uses multi-cell batteries (like the one in this video), then you'll need a balance charger, and a parallel charging board, and be sure to watch some videos on the safe charging of batteries. There are many brands, but iSDT makes some of the highest quality and nicest to use chargers. Happy flying!

    Or what other motors you recommend besides the stock sailfly motors?

    The 1105 motors in this video have the standard 9mm (diagonal) 4-hole mounting pattern. I don't have a sailfly-x, but i believe it uses the Happymodel 1102 motors, which use the smaller 3-hole mounting pattern. Therefore, no, the 1105 motors probably cannot go on the sailfly-x frame unless the sailfly-x frame supports both patterns. Personally, I think 1105 motors are too heavy. I would use 1102 or 1103 motors.

    16AWG wire is absolutely overkill, and so is that foot of heatshrink they put on there. Please, please, please tell those guys to cut it out.

    I flew the 6000kv motors on 3S. They felt underpowered for the heavy HD version. The 5000kv motors will be even weaker. I don’t think they will be good for 3S. I expect the 8000kv 1103s to be better for 3S. I will be testing them soon.

    @@MrShutterBug That's not good. I have some 4400kV 1104 motors that I was hoping to ShuttlebugHD with (w/Caddx Turttle v2) but seems like a non-starter with the Betaflight frame?

    DirkaDirka07 4400kv sounds like a 4S motor. You could try 4S but the 4S batteries are pretty heavy.

    @@MrShutterBug Not enough power on 4S and that kV with the 2" props.... I need some new motors for my build. Would you go with the 1105s and 4s or 1103s on 3s (want to carry the Turtle)? Or something else?

    The lack of smooth vision might come down to the plastic frame -- I've noticed this with 3d printed frames -- with enough power there's is not enough stiffness and you end up with bad vision, poorer control and qualities you can't 'tune out'. Try a carbon frame -- you might be surprised.

  • @MrShutterBug

    Yeah, a carbon frame would totally fly better with this much weight. I do love whoops but they need to be lighter to fly well. I’ll probably end up building a 3” with these parts and stick with my light weight whoops for close proximity flying. Cheers!

    DrHabib Khan this drone has an XM+ receiver. Actual range depends on many factors. I don’t usually fly very far, but I know I’ve gone at least 500 meters with the XM+. Cheers.
