If for any reason you are using insulin for treatment of any condition in normoglycemic patients for example in treating hypertriglyceridemia in pancreatitis patient with insulin. You give insulin with dextrose so that patient doesnot develop hypoglycemia.

In your anaphylaxis video you mentioned that betablocker can block the receptors that adrenaline acts on, but in this video it is a treatment to beta blocker overdose in the absence of glucagon I am confused 😞

  • @MedNerdDrWaqasFazal

In anaphylaxis our main goal is prevent bronchoconstriction which we achieve by giving adrenaline and if patient is on beta blockers, they can reduce the effect of adrenaline on the lungs. Therefore we use salbutamol. On the other hand in beta blocker overdose Glucagon is the main treatment. But if glucagon is unavailable adrenaline can somewhat improve symptoms of patient with beta blocker overdose by reversing the effects in all systems except lungs where the effect is minimal. Remember adrenaline is therefore not the best treatment in beta blocker overdose, glucagon is.
