Black Entertainment Television (BET★) is an American pay television channel that is part of the BET Networks division of Viacom Media Networks, a unit of Viacom. It is the most prominent television network targeting African American and Hispanic Latino Americans audiences, with approximately 88,255,000 American households (75.8% of households with television) receiving the channel. The channel has offices in Washington, D.C., New York City, Los Angeles and Chicago. Programming on the network consists of original and acquired television series and theatrically and direct-to-video-released films. The network has also aired a variety of stand-up comedy, news, and current affairs programs, and formerly aired mainstream rap, hip-hop and R&B music videos; the latter of which now air on its branded sister networks. After stepping down as a lobbyist for the cable industry, Free port, Illinois native Robert L. Johnson decided to launch his own cable television network. Johnson would soon acquire a loan for $15,000 and a $500,000 investment from media executive John Malone to start the network. which was named Black Entertainment Television (BET★), launched on January 25, 1980.

Same but I am watching in 2022. I grew up on BET in the 2000’s. At that time they still had some good programs. The station needs a whole new rebranding

Same here. I instantly felt nostalgic. I grew up on BET in the 80s and 90s.
Now that's how it all got started with Viacom's newest network, BET. Launched in January 25, 1980 and was very popular for both African American and Hispanic Latino American audiences ever since !

revehimifilms same here. I think it was around 1983 or 1984. I apologize but BET has gone in the garbage for me. It sucks. I hope that someone has a genius of a brain to think of some sort of BET classic channel just like they did MTV classic.

Andre Crawford The only way we are going to get some old-school black entertainment TV is if some genius think of a BET classic channel. Or instead of the BET app that they got, why can’t they just come up with a BET classic app? Come on now. Or, they can let go of BET her, and change it to BET classic. What do you think about that?

@@WinterBaby90 I thought you would. But the new version of BET sucks bad. Just think about it. MTV got MTV classic with nothing but videos, we did have VH1 classic which I think they should bring it back.

Justin Fencsak yes they did. They suck for that. Since they want to make money, why can’t they come up with BET classic? Think about it. All of the video programs that we could watch although they are super old. Even the shows that BET produced. Shows like video soul, video vibrations, planet groove, Rap city, Bobby Jones Gospel, and several others that I failed to mention. Shucks even teen summit. Why not?
