I've never thought I'd meet someone who agrees with me that the show is kind of worse off without the Time War. It was nice to have this huge, eldritch event, that feels like it's been brewing slowly, until it just exploded into the most spectacular, horrible extinction event, and now, we are left with a new timeline, a young timeline, where the creatures from classic Who are relegated to legends, and a broken hero, who is doomed to wander the universe, alone, the last of the time lords. I think that makes for a much more interesting background/world building for Doctor Who than just "Oh, there's a silly man, he has a box, he sometimes goes back to this planet of funny mathematicians with weird hats"

"Things die, it's just what they do. Every minute of every day, on every world, every galaxy, something dies. Crying over it is spitting into the wind. Death is natural, yes. But there comes a time in the history of all civilisations, worlds great and small when something, some event, some disease, some war. Tips the balance of things, when even nature must look at the numbers and nervously catch its breath and on those occasions. Well, it's time to make plans.... a time for change" - The War Master: Only The Good - The Heavenly Paradigm.

My “issues” is just that the time war has been hyped up for a decade, it would never live up for the hype and a lot of people are kinda sick of daleks cannot describe my disappointment when the “nightmare child” was a dalek. The Neverweres should really go unexplained but if they have to show up *DONT MAKE THEM DALEKS* . And I do love some of it (the master stuff is great) I’d have loved to see some of the war doctor actually being “war like” going against his nature and killing daleks and whatever happened on skull moon, not him saving people (the war doctor wouldn’t save Davros, 8 might war wouldn’t)

Although I understand your disappointment that the Nightmare Child is a Dalek, it's pretty harsh to simply refer to it as "a Dalek" like it's just another random Dalek design. Far from that in fact, it's an eldritch abomination of a Dalek, possibly the most destructive Dalek in existence. A colossal, raging tsunami that devours everything, including thousands of fellow Daleks at a time. The Nightmare Child was Davros' attempt at creating "the perfect Dalek", and, in a twisted, morbid sense, succeeded.

The Time War as presented in the show: Oh yeah there was this really big war that happened but we're just going to tease you with the details but boy does it sound like an interesting event in Doctor Who lore. Oh wait turns out Gallifrey didn't go Kaboom this totally doesn't neuter most of the heavy emotional weight generated by the RTD era. Oh yeah one more thing we're kind of just not going to bring up the Time War now or explore it any meaninful context post 50th because you know it's not like it's a big deal. The Time War as presented by Big Finish: Not only did we foreshadow this bad boy across most of Mcgann's era but we've devoted entire fully fleshed out story arcs that span countless audios just to explain to you how utterly terrifying this war actually will be. Oh and when it happens we're not sparing the details, Classic characters making comebacks, beloved characters dying or worse oh and did we mention we also have stories featuring a Master and Doctor played by Jacobi and Hurt respectively? I'm a simple man, when I think Time War I think Big Finish.

When I complain about series 11 or 12, people often ask me what I would do, if I was showrunner. My first order of business would be putting Ian Chesterson in a freaking story, for crying out loud. (William Russell is 95!) My second order of business would probably be giving Peter Purvus his Savages sequel finally. And my third order of business, is figuring out how to fully cement both Big Finish, and Titan Comics, into the TV show, so no one can deny that they're Cannon. Hey, if anyone's interested, I'm reviewing all the Doctor Who stories on my channel, with me just having uploaded my review of: 'Invasion Of The Dinosaurs (1974)!' No pressure, of-course; It just might be worth checking out! :)

Disney had been wanting to co-produce a Doctor Who with the BBC ever since the David Tennant era but Disney wanted a big British name to play the Doctor since David Tennant wasn't well known in the states at the time. Same goes with Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi. So the only solution is a film set in the Time War with Gary Oldman as the War Doctor

Only the monstrous is one of my favourite Doctor who stories of all time, it just has so much get up and go, it really feels like we are finally looking at the time war through the Doctors eyes. I see this story like trial of a timelord (which I also love), in where there are little stories in one box set, but are all still the same story, unlike the big finish box set which are just 4 stories that may have something tying them together. You need to watch mind warp to understand terror of the vervoids and same can be said here.

With the final story being him betraying them - maybe even with his refusal to continue being what causes Arcadia to fall. The doctor being called a coward and not being that different after all kind of... takes away from the 50th Anniversary special.

I've really enjoyed these and the Broke Canon series. Since this is the Time War as opposed to the War Doctor specifically, is it possible that it might be due for an update? Since we've gotten a lot more Time War from Big Finish (four Gallifrey sets that are really good, currently six War Master sets with at least two on the way, four Eighth Doctor sets, Susan's War which was really good, and two War Doctor begins sets), plus "The Clockwise War" from DWM, I'm cutious if there's enough to warrent re-examining the war. Even if not, this was still a great series. Looking forward the Jodie's when her era ends in the fall. Keep up the great videos.

BadwolfGamer I’ll say it once and I’ll say it again; the BBC is missing out on not making Doctor Who movies. Just cause the 90s one didn’t sit well, doesn’t mean that it won’t nowadays. Hell, I’d argue that a Doctor Who movie would feel right at home during this age of cinema, and with the right budget, actors, writers, and more, I’m betting that it would be fantastic. The only negative is that John Hurt is no longer with us, so we probably won’t ever get our Time War epic on the big screen.

The Time War is far above anything in Star Wars. Its a Lovecraftian nightmare with time and space being mangled and ripped apart and reassembled into terrible, abominable things, tearing the universe asunder as the time lords and daleks injured reality even more with their doomsday weapons, weapons that could unmake the entire GFFA in a second. A Time War movie would ideally look nothing like star wars, and be impossible to visualise.

Technology hasn’t blitzed my brain enough that I can’t imagine the images. Would be nice to have a definitive list as the big finish site is so confusing. Brit box....make it happen and I will sign up to you guys.

Haha; The narrator doesnt even get the true enemy of the timewar correct. The Daleks was NOT the "true" enemy of the timelords in the Timewar. The Ragnarookians was. as...They where the former rulers over time and that after Rassilon and his "teacher" trapped them in an Schrödinger like state of both being alive and ascended beings at the same time. The Ragnarookians manipulated mankinds history so the Daleks came to be in the future and then pushed and gave them the timetravel tech. We know this above thru Rassilons ascention device and how the Doctor transportewd away Gallifrey at the same moment. = Thus trapping the rulers of time in an Schrödinger state of both being alive and ascended.... = in this new Universetimeline that was spawned into existance in episodes "Doomsday & Big Bang" (very well hidden in Doomsday") the Weeping Angels ARE the former rulers of time (the Timelords) = the same as the Ragnarookians was in the classic series Universetimeline (seen 1963-2006: 2010. 2013: 2014.
