Thanks for the great review. I got the Kapstan last summer for big swimbaits for Largemouths and so farm so good. It's smooth, and casts a mile. The speed demon on the other hand worked great for myself and my cousin for about 3-4 months and both stopped working, stripped out a week apart. I used it for jigs and frogs because of the high gear ratio. I'm curious to see how this reel holds up compared to my higher end Shimano reels! If you have any issues at all, please let me know. Thanks.

thanks for the honest review. since i fish the same water i won't go that route now. I've been using the Shimano Tekota LC500 series for several years now and love them. I've heard complaints about the drags loosening up on them but mine cooperate just fine. I am interested in the newer Okuma Coldwater 350 Low Profile for drifting the river. Have any thoughts or experience with those yet? They seem to have good reviews my only hesitation is their line capacity. I like to be able stop and drift and walk if i want and get bait back 900 feet if i want to. Not every reel can accommodate that request.

That's just a top end and still overpriced off-brand. Instead of wasting money on garbage reels save a little longer and buy a brand name, even it's one of the cheaper models. It'll save you in the long run because they'll last 10 if not 100 times longer. Stick to the Shimano,Daiwa, and Penn's for quality, longevity, smoothness, and replacement parts if you ever need any.

Mid-South Outdoor Life - Not sure if this will help the drag, but my Okuma Magda line counter reels had a very sticky and jerky drag to begin with. I took them all apart, cleaned the China sticky grease off of the carbon drag washers, and went back with Cal’s drag grease, and the drags were smooth and easily adjustable after that. Just thought I would share how I fixed the drag on my Okuma’s. It took me some labor hours to do this, but my labor is cheaper for me.

@@catfishkarma1 that's why I was happy to find this, comparing 1 star reviews to 5 star ones kept me from pulling the trigger. Then here on KZread all the rekons are from either Kastking or someone sponsored by them... They do have some good products though, I got a couple of their sharky 3 baitfeeder reels that I've been happy with. I use one for trout fishing powerbait off the bottom and for a 50 dollar reel it does well compared to other brands of that price point. Got a Spartacus reel as well to learn baitcasting on just haven't gotten around to bass fishing lately to really use it. Mainly I've been targeting trout and trying to learn this downrigger I got. I ended up getting an okuma linecounter reel...

I got the non-line counter rekon. Size 20. Its been great. But I am a lowly shore fisherman who fishes near dams and spillways for kittys. I like the Kaspian for my big glide/swim bait pole. I just assumed that Kastking will be hit or miss because they are from china. Overall for me, kastking is a decent budget option for people wanting to get into fishing. Their spinning reels have also been great, but I use those on my ultralight/crappie set ups

HI. Still waiting for an updated LINE COUNTER reel, review!? GEAR RATIOs? #1 test, have a full spool, so the counters are right. Then, try cranking up a 10# weight, while using the same pole with the same guides & line. What reel cranks in the easiest? What reel has the smoothest drag? Up Erie, trolling for eyes with dips & boards, us OLD TIMERS need a LOW GEARED WINCH! That's why, most of my friends & I use OKUMA Coldwater 303. They have a 4.2:1 reduction. Match that,,, & do a review! Please. ;>)

THANKS,,,, for a fairly decent review. You NEED to put the reels in action! I just got done reading about 50 Amazon reviews,,,,, I'm trying to find a COMPARABLE Line Counter REEL (IF anyone makes one) to the OKUMA LC 'COLDWATERS'. !? I love my Kastking Baitfeader Spincasting reels for the ocean surf fishing, so I figured that their Line Counters would be the same quality. GUESS NOT???? I would enjoy seeing you compare the two side by side, IN ACTION. #1, Calibrate the Line Counters. Put the correct amount of line on each reel to achieve the correct diameter,,,,then pull the line out & back in 3-4 times,,, to SHOW how accurate they are. #2, When you test the cranking smoothness & DRAGS, mount the two reels that your reviewing, on the same, say 6' poles,,, & put the poles in some holders at a 45* angle. Attach a 20#-40# weight to the line, & TRY to crank them in, off the floor. THAT picture/ test would be worth a million words! (& a ton of thumbs up! ;>) Now, Put the Okuma LC, up against the KK LC,,, Then add those Sougayilang Line Counter Trolling Reels,,,,,, that HAVE WAY BETTER RATINGS than the KKs,,,, & see what happens!? THANKS

Personally I think they're spinning reels are actually phenomenal and I will 100% vouch on my entire fishing career that they're spinning reels are phenomenal. but I will say though that they do need to work on their baitcasting reels quite a bit more. because I tried one of their baitcasting reels and it wouldn't even spool because the tension knob would not go down properly at all so I couldn't get any traction to reel in the line.

Kastking seems to make a lot of misses and their technology is behind the times. Occasionally they have a hit. I have a Rover 50, 60, and 90. They are better than the current crop of Abu reels made in China. Way behind even the cheapest Akios. Overall I think Penn, Diawa, and Shimano are vastly superior although significantly more expensive. Getting parts from Kastking is almost impossible which puts their products into the throw away category.

Instead of buying the Kastkraps or any of the other off-brand pieces of garbage one just needs to save a little longer and get a brand name like you mentioned,I prefer Shimano then Daiwa but have recently got my 1st Penn although it's a 60 and for salt and haven't had a chance to use it yet. It's better to buy the brand names, even the cheaper models, and use it for decades than it is to needing to buy the junk off-brands over and over.Sooner than later you will have that money wasted on those off-brands that would have bought you one of the brand names. I bought 3 Rovers at once to try as PA only allows you a max of 3 rods in the water. Those things are outright garbage.I modded them and fixed a couple problems they had for no cost, but to fix another...the low quality bearings was another chunk of $ I'd have to spend on them.I sent them back to Amazon within 2 weeks. For the price of 3 Kastkraps I bought another 2 new/unused Shimano Corvalus' off fleabay to match the one I already had. For $50ea. I have reels that are 100x better than those Kastkraps or any their twins by different colors, names, and prices.

@@TheIconicFisherman A once a month fisherman thinks they're decent.... They are garbage,I fish almost every day,an some of my Shimano's are from the mid/late 80's an almost all my reels fish both fresh and salt but the only one that is actually a salt reel is the Penn 60. Tried numerous brands and models to see if one could save a few $. Yes they are off-brands an all just copies of one another and they're all j u n k that isn't worth a buck, sorry I wasted my time on them. At least buying through Amazon I could return the garbage to get my $ back. Did you know Kastkrap tried to claim they were American Made a number of years ago??? They even had an American flag on their label. Until the cat was left out of the bag...then they removed the false claims. Biggest thing you once-n-awhile fishermen see is the high drag and bearing numbers. Both of which is not needed and most are marketing gimmicks for you people that know no better. Also, some of the places they put bearings is actually a problem....on top of the lower quality metal they use for those bearings.
