Best Ways To Clean Makeup Brushes With Common Household Products | Pantry Beauty | Insider Beauty

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Insider's Caroline Aghajanian is using her time at home to finally clean her makeup brushes. She typically cleans her brushes with her face wash and a makeup-brush-cleaning mat, but she will test out three other popular methods for alternative options.
The first method is mixing extra-virgin olive oil with dish soap, like Dawn or Palmolive. The extra-virgin olive oil can help break down makeup and can also moisturize the bristles so the brushes don't dry out.
The second method is with hot water, white vinegar, and dish soap mixed together into a cup. The white vinegar will help disinfect the makeup brushes.
The third method is washing brushes with castile soap, like Dr. Bronner's castile soap, and disinfecting with apple cider vinegar afterwards. All of these methods will leave makeup brushes clean and ready for application.

My art teacher in college always told us not to ever use hot water on brushes, as it will melt the glue that holds the bristles in place and they will fall out easily. This was a great tip!

Thank you for this video! One warning about the vinegar- I've heard white vinegar is great for removing certain types of glue so I would be really hesitant to get it anywhere near brush handles! Using it in a solution that you only use for a minute or two is probably the best way to keep your brushes safe from fallout!

I basically handle my makeup brushes the same I do with my regular watercolor brushes. Wash them in slightly warm water (not hot) with mild soap to not ruin the hairs /fibers and dry them with the bristle side down to keep the water away from the base. I actually use my drying brush stand for both lol it’s really handy and made out of metal so you can properly clean it and sterilize after using it.

Thank you for sharing your video with us regarding cleaning makeup brushes. I want to tell you it really work number two with the vinegar hot water and the dawn soap. I put a little twist on it I put the water in an old bluebonnet cup (lol), put the water in the microwave and let it heat for a minute and 30 seconds. After which I put vinegar, baby shampoo a tablespoon, and a tablespoon of white vinegar stir it put my brushes in it and also put my puff pad in it as well and within 30 seconds to everything was very clean even my makeup puff. Again thank you for sharing. You may want to try this method against well. Keep up the good work!

I shake my brushes after rinsing them and make sure to wipe from the tip of the handle through the metal part and squeeze the bristles so drain any water. I like to wash my make up brushes in J & J regular baby shampoo. I just pour a small amount into an empty plastic tumbler and add warm water then I place the brushes in the glass and swirl them around. I also use a plastic rubber facial scrubber to swirl the brushes against the little plastic bristles, then I rinse them and dry them on a soft towel, then I shake them and place them in a plastic brush dryer so they are upside down. TIP: rinse the brushes in COLD water to completely dissolve the soap molecules so they don't leave residue in the bristles. I have also used lavender castile soap but it is harder to rinse away.

Anything that was cleaned with vinegar will not smell like vinegar at all after you let it air dry. People are always scared of using vinegar because of the smell, but vinegar EVAPORATES. It never leaves a smell once the object is dry. I used to rinse my hair with a vinegar solution, and it never smelled.

I washed my moms makeup brushes and I did the second hack and it was pink from her blush and the bottom of the bristles were pink and I don’t know what it looked like before she used it.

i figured that if i could wash off makeup on my face with an oil cleanser that i could use it for my brushes as well...is that alright?? haha ive only had brushes for about a month only so i cant tell of any long term effects.

I followed the first step, but instead of olive oil, I used baby oil, and it worked as well!

I use baking soda and dish soap on my beauty blender. Does anyone know if I can use baking soda on my brushes?

I'm not the best with makeup and I'm pretty new to all this. is this method of cleaning (using dish soap) harmful for your skin?

Excuse me, what about the handler which is sticky??? It happened to me with one of my “it cosmetics” flat brushes 😢🥺…

People are saying the second method isnt reccomended. But if you dont have the items in the video, what can you do instead? I'm not in America or the UK amd these things are expensive from where I'm from and hard to buy.

It's best to leave the brushes elevated as opposed to flat when drying.

I read you should dry flat, as upright the water will drip into the brush finele and ruin the glue.
