This was a great beginners lesson although I've known some people who should know better who still drag their saddle sideways. Thanks for posting this. I am a firm believer in showing consideration for the horse. If someone doesn't care about that then they might do it correctly in order to get the cooperation of their horse which directly benefits them.

I would love to join you but I'm both elderly and disabled and on a small fixed income. I've downsized my life to the bare bones in order to be able to keep the black stallion. He is almost certainly the last horse I'll ever share life with and the last one I'll ever start which was easily done due to over 6 decades of experience.
I'm 65 now but was a very patient trainer with my Q/Horses back in the day , and taking things slow and keeping your horse calm and creating a good bond with them is so much more fun with a lot better results .I bought a beautiful q/h mare once that could'nt be caught once out in the paddock , after about 2 hours I had her come running to a whistle , standing to be geared up then standing so I could take the gear off , it was so much fun working with her . I also had a back injury so for about 6 weeks I couldnt ride I taught her to give kisses and shake hands & bow LOL , Why ? because I wanted to see if I could hahaha . Oh to have my youth back again would be so good , old age sucks . Love your video's Ryan .

Are you still riding? I’m 68 and training a horse to be my next riding horse, a solid black Paint gelding. He’s been a handful, my most challenging horse so far. I’ve gotten so many great tips from talented KZread trainers like Ryan just when I needed them. Wish me luck!🍀
I immediately went out and changed the way my cinches are kept! Thanks Ryan!
I'm the idiot who was a green rider who bought a green horse and your videos have been invaluable to me. Knowledge is definitely power. I binge watch all of your videos and have started working with a trainer. Thank you so much for spending your time helping horses by helping us. It takes so much time to film and edit and you are appreciated!!

You've lived to tell! Horses are great teachers.
Great video. I’ve seen a few videos where the person throws the saddle on the horse the nice and smooth way you are. I would love to be able to do it too, but being a small woman it seems impossible. Could you please make a video in which you teach a woman to do it. 😅 Thanks in advance. Katrine

This is a great video, we just got a horse who gets unconfident when saddled. So I will be showing him this way! Looks like we need to start with ground tying.
I have used the packers knot for years. I have heard it called the Nevada knot. I really like it because I'm short and have a hard time mounting from the ground. I can very easily tighten my cinch without dismounting. Best way to fasten the latigo. Always stays in place. Thank you for spreading the word. Great video.
Very helpful we have a 16 yr old who likes to walk in circles when we try to cinch him, we were also putting saddle on wrong. I am new to horses. Thank you for all your help. Going to try it tomorrow and over the next couple weeks. Thanks again.
This was great, thanks. One thing I don't see happen too often in saddling up videos: I like to pull each foreleg forward to stretch a little after cinching to relieve and release the skin that got pulled sideways under the cinch as it was tightened. I like your presentation very much, you keep things moving and all the explanation is very clear, great. thanks!

Love the Packers knot. I'm the only person I know who uses this knot. Why I like it so much is, I can easily tighten the girth without dismounting. Saves time and energy and isn't bulky like the Texas T knot.
He looks like my new spotted saddle mare but she has one crystal blue eye! I got her from a lady who couldn't control her (she spoiled this horse pretty bad). She is the most loving, in your pocket mare I've ever known but she has zero respect for women. I decided to totally restart her. I know she can be an amazing horse with some training, she has the smoothest gaits. Im determined to make her my main ride💖
Viewers, notice how low this horse's hocks are... and how short his cannon bones are in relation to the upper part of his legs... plus the angle of his hocks. It's ideal. This trainer obviously understands good conformation.
Again. Thank you for breaking it down into parts. So those that truly want to improve, can truly, follow through. Step by step. Thank you again Ryan Rose! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️😎👌👍🏻🐴✝️
This young man is absolutely fantastic! Many thanks 🙏

Tips for saddling for a short person. I’m 5 ft and horse is 14.2 I try to saddle like you’ve shown but I don’t clear her back.

I too find it difficult, I have founded standing with my back to the horse and really getting the saddle swinging left to right pretty hard first. It usually helps me get it high enough to clear the back. I practiced on a fence a few times.
O My, such a gorgeous beautiful horse
I do bring my stirrup up on the horn when I swing my saddle up but I swing it almost the same way but I use my hip and thigh to push it upwards while swinging it over the horse (if that makes sense). I'm farely small so it helps to give that little extra push!😊

What a beautiful horse
I'm sharing this on my channel, I ride dressage but I liked the slide the saddle off the back, was so much nicer on my temperamental sweet mare
Awesome tips!! Thanks. 😀
Informative and well presented. Excellent.
So helpful, thank you!
Beautiful horse!!!!!
Enjoyed your info. Thanks for the tips. Happy Trails
I think the saddling technique is more of a short person solution to a problem. Being 6'5" i don't struggle to often getting a saddle on a horse, lol. But I like your tying and buckling techniques. Never thought of them before.
What beautiful relaxed horse 😊👍
Thanks for the lesso
Thanks I am an English rider who is now riding western horses.
We always tied them up so we could brush them out first and then saddle them.

Hi Ryan. I went further with this saddling training. While I am on the offside, I ask my horse to move his feet to move his body so I am on the left side. Saves steps for me. Also incorporate this for unsaddling. My horse gets a lot of responsibility to be my partner.
I have a golden that looks almost just like that paint! Beautiful
Excellent

8:27 He was definitely posing an "objection" when you tightened up that back cinch... 😂
Thank you for the tips. I have two questions: how far back should the saddle sit on the horse, and how far should the cinch be from the elbow?
We might have to figure out a way to get you down for a clinic at the Hooved Animal Humane Society.. nice work.

LoL,never seen a saddle put on backwards before....😂😂😂 But I ve definitely seen a halter put on upside down.(thought &chin up)....guy was lucky the horse he haltered was bomb poof !!!!
What saddle pad do you use in this video. Thank you great video
This was a really great video, thanks. My question is how do I know what saddle size for my 13hh mare, with a long back?
When I tack up my horse I don’t do my singe up like that I was told to do it a diff way😅
I’m short and struggle with swinging the saddle up and over. How can I get enough momentum to swing it up and over?

Perhaps, practice a Lot, and that will make your body stronger, and then it will be easier to lift and swing that saddle over....
Good video! And may I just say - that halter fits him perfectly! :D

How much does a good saddle weigh
Ok so my mustang has absolutely had no issues being saddled and bridled for 3 years now. He is now 16.3 and he is jumping away pulling back and rearing when it comes to saddling him, very frustrating as saddle fits well. No pain involved he raises his head to the stars, I have to get in the back of the truck or on a stool to bridle and saddle, becoming quite an issue, have started back at square one. He handled being saddled and bridling without any issues when first brought home from the wild and gentling him. Never flinched. Never moved as a 3 yr old, now at 7 it's becoming a struggle and very hard to get the saddle on. Help
Do you use a get down rope with your bridal or a Makate? I do something like this.
I love the idea of swinging the saddle onto your horse. However my horse is much taller than me so do you suggest using a stool?
I have a horse that blows up when tied to be saddled. He's great other than that how do I break that?
I ment I have a gilden that looks almost just like him
Bro he is lucky I'm horse would run from me if I let her go if I could catch her and when I put the saddle on she puffs out so the saddle Is loose when I ride and I can't ride her without my boy horse
So funny
I bought a horse that does not stand still to be saddled, how do you teach them to stand still?
And how do I rein them to go a certain direction if they keep going the other direction? I FORGOT EVERYTHING. And I tried to ride a horse at my friend's house, and she was stubborn as a mule but I had never ridden her before. She was like my friend's other horse 🐎 but a lot more attitude. I kept trying to kick her to the left by pulling the left rein and kicking with my right foot but she just kept turning her head. Then I couldn't get her to move at all. I know it's my fault. I forgot how to rein. I got her to go a couple times but that was it. I was kicking as hard as I could. What am I doing wrong?
Now how do I bridle a horse without them biting me?
What happens you are short and you have to heave the saddle up unto the horse and it bangs or bumps the horse. What can I do. I'm 4 ft and horse is 15.
@Rowdymotmot

I understand what you mean as I am short too. I think I would get someone to build you a platform that would raise you up about a foot. My horse is the same height as yours but I am 5'3" and can put his saddle on without clunking things on him as was shown in this video. A cheap way to make a platform would be to use some pallets. The platform would also make it easier to mount your horse as well.
@margaretporkolab7166
2 жыл бұрын
@@Rowdymotmot thank you never thought of a pallet.
I don't think I would reach under the horses belly as you do in this video. I've only ridden english style except one time on a hack with western saddle and bridle. I will stand with my back against the back of the horse and reach under with my right hand, so I'm faced towards the front of the horse. I wouldn't feel comfortable with your way of doing it because then my head will be the nearest thing to the hindleg of the horse. In case the horse kicks with the hindleg under the belly to chase a fly away or something. That's just my opinion and what I feel comfortable with and feels safe for me. Interesting videos though, have watched a bunch.
He is not kidding about skittish horses. I had one step on my foot once. YEOWCHITS! Yeah always pay attention to your horse.
Hmm, is this specific to the type of saddle?
@ryanrosehorsemanship
3 жыл бұрын
Kinda, this is how I would rig a western saddle. Thanks
Question: Could a shorter person with a taller horse, (me) put the left stirrup on the horn before swinging it over? I think I would end up smacking her in butt. Great idea on folding up the straps, keeps it tidy and avoids those straps being dragged. Thank you,
What king of saddle pad do you have?

I've noticed more and more people reaching their horses to tack up and mount from either side, so it's okay as long as it's his own horse that he knows well
