Graphite always gives more realistic and smoother effects than charcoal. But charcoal always has better values. so the best is to mix both of them at right places.
I have no idea why I got so emotional watching thing this but my mind and soul is feeling nothing but peace right now

Good lord - this is a lot of work to do just to draw a sphere. You have WAY more patience than me. Maybe I'll just stick to sketches!
Thanks, I loved it. This is a very easy way to shade a sphere. Its realistic. Great work 😊

Thank you! Yes I shade in circular motion. The tutorial with instructional commentary is available on my patreon account (patreon.com/emmykalia)
Thank you for the video. I wish someone would make some with blocks etc. Also EVERYONE NEVER SMEAR WITH YOUR FINGERS. It leaves on oil , from your fingers on your paper that changes the way it erases. Just a note.

Lisa Maier I seen this comment at perfect time cause I always did it, and I have to shade in a computer mouse for my high school leaving exam in Design and Communication Graphics, where we had to design one on a computer program and then another part required you to graphically represent it with free hand sketches... and shading is my most dreaded part, I’ll smudge it with a tissue or something

Very good job.
This is crazy high level skills 😲
Wow!!!
I liked all ur videos
Welp no blending stump :( also what is considered soft cloth? I have that soft cloth that you use for glasses I want to know if you can use that.
Sorry I am watching this and asking a question so long after you posted this video. but why do you draw that parallel line to help determine where the cast shadow goes? I always struggle with placement of cast shadows and that seems like a fairly easy and straightforward way to get it correct.

@Emmy Kalia, Thank you for showing how to shade a sphere, I really struggle with sphere shapes in my drawings.
Nice and thanks
Good fantastic

You are a great artist love you kalia

By far the best, realistic drawing on youtube! Love your work! Glad came across to your channel.
Please suggest for a beginner. Which charcoal pencil is better. Soft or medium. . I believe sort breaks easiky so makes it hard to make the details
hey Emmy you did a great job I liked this very much👌👌 but I'm a beginner so I needed a video tutorial on how to sketch a face for beginners plz it would be great plzzzzz..........🙏🙏🙇🙇
Sir say me how to draw basic shading with start beginning.. than nice sir ...👍👍👍👍
Love it :D Do you have any tips on how to sharpen charcoal pencils? Using my electric sharpener is no good, the led always disintegrates, assuming a regular sharpener is just as bad. Would help plenty Ty :D

Hi just heard of you you are a,axing just wanted to say and also can you do a tips and tricks video every so often please?
Hi sisters
Ik kan de description box below waar je beschrijft welke materialen je gebruikt nooit vinden!? Ik kijk je filmpjes op een iPad, zou het daardoor komen?
@emmykalia

Zelfs op je telefoon zou je het moeten zien. Als je het filmpje (niet op volle scherm) ziet, scroll je omlaag en naast de titel zie je een klein vinkje die klik je aan en dan komt de rest van de informatie.
please suggest an alternative for paper stump...!!

you can use soft tissue paper for blending as well.

Emmy kaila I love u
emmy pls make video of cute girl with shading effect but please whole face
I was hoping for instruction to explain
hmm seams easy
A liitle too fast for me, and no verbal instruction. I also noticed that you must have used some type of guide or ruler before you started to film in order to achieve a perfect circle. OH WELL!! SuperSniperSal USMC Disabled Vet
The charcoal pencil light is a mess, powder all over the paper , I had to erase many times with the kneaded eraser, and a normal eraser.
@emmykalia

Yes, I’m not a fan of charcoal. Nowadays I use a black colored pencil to add darker value to my graphite drawings
Now i really kneaded an eraser

any charcoal users there?
To fast
charcoal drawing is faster!!!!
Don't watch this because it is all wrong. She doesn't even think 3D while shading. The sphere curls under, so where is the dark cast shadow under the sphere where it ends? Light can't reach that part because of the shape of the sphere but she leaves it there as if light is hitting. Reflected light can't reach there because this is not a 2D object. Also the core shadow on the first sphere is too below. It depends on your light source but, because of the form of the sphere and light direction, the core shadow must have been more in the middle. Again, she doesn't understands what reflected light is, and leaves a distinct value gap between R.L and the shadows instead of more smooth edge transition. Plus, she doesn't understand the fundemental rule of grouping shadows and light families. The reflected light has the same value as the lighter halftones near at the highligt.. which is ughh.. Beyond all of these errors, she puts the shadow line shaped like a circle curve.. The proper way of it should be a more dioganal less curved straight line.. just completely wrong! You guys first have to understands the fundemental science of light-form and drawing before jumping to shade without thinking.. i hope this helps someone. Ask me if you have questions.
