    I figured out how to set these plates up a while back. The light shining thru is fine. However if you notice, the gap is smaller at the front than the back. Basically your plate is sitting at an angle. I guess thats fine. But i like my stuff level. This is my way of doing it. To install ANY of these dove tail plates correctly. 1). You must know that the front screws are also to be used as set screws. Which adjust the front of the plate up/down. 2) Insert the plate as normal. 3). (Using blue loktite)screw in the dove tail set screw but do not tighten with pressure.4) while looking at the gap with a light (blue loktite)Screw in front set screw(s) until the gap from front to back is equal. 5). slightly Tighten down the dove tail set screw. then while checking alignment and gap slightly tighten down the front set screws. The loktite and optic should keep the front set screws from moving any direction.

    You can tell how much more popular red dots are becoming. I have a G19, it was a non MOS version, but I bought a MOS slide later on and use that slide on that gun now. I got the complete slide, striker and everything for about $150. Have a Holosun installed on it. Works great. I have tried looking for a G43X MOS Slide and people want $500 for one. I can get an entire gun for that price LOL. And that is probably what I will end up doing. Probably see if my local shop will give me a decent amount for my old G43X and if not just keep both of them. Would need night sights again though. Not a cheap hobby.

    At least 20 years ago or so, I designed and made an effective optics adapter that attached to the pistol via the 2 screws that held one of the scales on the grip (the pistol involved had no rails on which to affix any sight or light). The adapter was a kind of twisted "L" shape. That mounting method also reduces to a major degree the shock impulse put on the optics as the optics don't move with the slide. If desired, it can allow for co-witnessing as well by just optionally lengthening the adapter a bit to locate the optics mounting rail leaving an air gap of about 5mm above the slide. The downside of course, was that the part of the adapter that attaches to the pistol has to be custom designed to fit in place of the scale it replaced. The alternative design just provided a "universal" mounting extension that instead sat on top of the existing scale (still using the scale's mounting screw points but slightly longer screws), which increased the width of the overall grip by about 2mm which could be an issue with some pistols and people with smaller hands...and it felt "rougher" to the hand. But the mounting extension could be pre-drilled to accomodate several common pistol scale mounting screw layouts for different pistols. I preferred my custom adapter that replaced the right-hand scale on that particular pistol. One also had to ensure the ejection port wasn't affected. It also wasn't ambidextrous...it would have had to have 2 models: one for left hand and one for right hand pistols/mounting. edit to add: probably wouldn't be feasible on a modern plastic frame pistol as any screw holes tapped for the optics adapter into the frame would likely deform with use and time, and could negatively affect the mechanical functionality of the frame.

Thank you Dovemounts for an excellent product, and thank you Jeff for an excellent tutorial. Jeff it is not really necessary to take the gun to the range to confirm sight alignment. Get a 9mm laser boresight cartridge such as those made by Sightmark. You can verify the alignment by measuring off 10 yards and verify that the laser "red dot" is on top of your front sight or slightly covered by the front sight. I use this method to initially align Crimson Trace laser sights for 10 yards.

    Wow, total game changer. I was just thinking about how I got a PSA dagger that comes with RMR cut. I love that pistol because of the red dot. I am not wanting a red dot on my P365 edc but was worried about losing my ass on trading in for an optics cut version. Thia seems like a great way to swap the sights without gun smithing fee. And you can change back to OEM sights if you ever sell. Whereas milling the slide could ruin trade in value. Not that i sell any of my guns lol...

I hope to God that the outside company's keeping it closer to 1/64 if not better even that moves your shot 1 inch at 32 ft more or less 10 yards. One thing to add. removing the old front and rear sights can and will be veery difficult without a sight adjustment tool. Those sights are wedged in very tight.

  • @jeffofalltrades8489

    @jeffofalltrades8489

    Not true. The only rear dove sight that is almost IMPOSSIBLE to remove is the Smith and Wesson (not all models). Glock can be done with a screw driver and a soft mallet if needed. A punch and a slide wedge works great too! I wouldn't recommend a sight pusher Front sight is as easy as getting a $2.00 tool from Amazon (Front sight removal tool)

    This is not better than mounting a red dot sight into a purpose milled slide. The cut slide is much stronger mounting, sits lower and does allow co-witness of the sights.

    Great, informative video. I'll admit that I'm not personally sold on the idea of pistol optics and I greatly prefer irons(I have shot a few with dots), but this looks like a great one to get if I want to try it at some point without having my slides cut or buying an MOS Glock. I'll absolutely keep the Dove system in mind if I want to give it a go sometime.

    Did adding the optic make it where your holster no longer worked. With these adapter plates and optic it looks as if the optic sit back far enough not to mess with a holster that is not set up for an optic. What’s is your experience. Did you have to buy a new holster or modify one?

    Great product. I see on their web site they now offer tritium front sights. Just a thought - would it be possible to manufacture a mini or micro tritium vial to be inserted into the rear sight with the current design. If the sight had to be thicker to cater for a vial, the plate may have to be longer and may not be ideal for stability as only the dove tail secures it to the slide and maybe prone to mild vibration thereafter. It is opinionated but I think tritium is currently the best in night sights. Well, since they made such a great product first time round, I'm sure they will do well with the night site version. Just by the way, I am from South Africa and love the product. With our rand to dollar exchange (R18.8049 to 1$) which is expensive for us in South Africa. On my wish list though.

    This product is thinner and still has a gap. My common sense makes me think it is structurally not as strong. Wouldn’t it be better if there was zero gap? Maybe the gap issue could be solved by tailoring the dove dot adapter to each manufacturer rather than one size fits most. Also this adapter is more than twice the cost. I’m pretty sure the gap can be eliminated. Once you do a review with zero gap, I’m going to buy one. Thanks for the excellent review. I’m subscribing hoping to see a new review when the gap is eliminated.

    Can you figure out a way to mount a red dot up front where the front sight is, so that it should be super easy to find the red dot. It should be even easier than finding iron front sight. Mounting a red dot in the rear is a very poor design that only helps finding a holster at the cost of making it so difficult to find the red dot when shooting. I think that the red dot should be mounted up front.
