I've though long and hard about the best way to carry cameras safely and securely on a motorcycle, and I think panniers is the way.

went for the same set up myself but hard pannier boxes and top box, tank bag tent across the seat travelled many miles for many years very happy with the set up. The boxes had an easy to use locking system to put on take off never had any problems camera gear was always fine. Enjoy Natalie I'm now jealous of course and wanting a motorbike LoL .......

I did consider a hart topbox too, but the options for the street triple are limited and fitting a givi rack is quite involved, plus I wanted to limit the scaffolding! I'm now looking for a way of mounting my DJI RC2 remote so I can use active track to get aerial footage with my mini 4 pro

Interesting, I'm trying to combine my photography hobby with my husband's motorbike trips out and decided against taking my fancy equipment on the back of the bike. I don't ride but go pillion so there's not much space left for gear. We tend to go out for day trips rather than overnight so haven't invested in panniers. My camera wasn't happy in a soft case on the back of the bike and would bring up all sorts of errors on the screen from being shaken around 🫨 My solution was to go and buy a cheap second hand camera so if it breaks it doesn't matter so much. Not ideal and would prefer to use my regular stuff but don't want to wreck it ☹️

Its a very genuine concern, when I load my panniers, they have 1000s of pounds of camera kit in there. I think its the nature of certain bikes, the suspension can be hard, but the tail of a bike is jostled around quite sharply. Panniers are often on a frame that hangs out from the bike, so this flexes, plus you can pad the bag and all this absorbs the shock. That said, there is always a higher risk on a bike, than a car, because bikes just vibrate more and tend to bump around more. When 2 up, the suspension is more loaded too, so can absorb less in the way of bumps.

Thank you that's really useful information. We're looking into a longer trip later this year so side panniers may be the way to go. I feel naked almost without my 'real' camera so would love to find a way of bringing it along safely. Do you insure yours to go on a bike? Is that even possible?

@@suehodnett6911 my house insurance covers me for high value items when traveling, so that's probably one way to go! See if they cover you, some policys include this personal possessions cover.
