Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Matthew and Alex talk through their preferred lenses when shooting on Micro Four Thirds cameras underwater, popularised by OM (née-Olympus) and Panasonic cameras. Both Alex and Matt have shot these systems extensively, but please let us and others know your favourite lenses in the comments. This is the 23rd episode of The Underwater Photography Show.

My personal favorites, in this order: Olympus 8mm f1.8 fisheye PRO, Panasonic 45mm f2.8 macro (to be able to be more flexibel), Olympus 12-40mm f2.8 PRO and the Olympus 60mm f2.8 macro. I have used other lenses such as the 7-14mm, but that didn't work for me at that the time, a lot of corner distortion. I also have the Olympus 30mm f3.5 macro, but it's too wide in general and I only use it for specific occasions.

I shoot both of the big expensive lenses you mention 😅 The 90mm is great for super macro, it replaced my 60mm + CMC-1 for muck diving here in the Philippines, but admittedly I tend to like the very smallest subjects. Much better bokeh than the 60mm in my opinion. The Canon 8-15mm is my wide angle lens of choice for MFT, though I have not shot the WWL-1 with the 14-42mm which I hear good things about. The zoom is great for sharks or other more shy subjects, though it is heavy and expensive...

No problem. We wanted to get the main equipment ones done early in the channel's history. And then go on and talk more about the actual photography etc.

Love my M. Zuiko 8mm fisheye, 7-14mm and 60mm macro. I am receiving the zoom gear for the 8-25mm soon and looking forward to comparing it to the 7-14. The 8-25mm will allow me to resurrect my Magic Filter too.

Which dome/zoom gear are you planning on using it with?

@@glynnphillips323 I use AOI products and will be using their LGOM1-825Pro gear in an 8" dome.

Like all cameras there’s a sweet spot of lens with a few niche lens for bespoke work. Would be interested to hear your thoughts on how big a sensor the m43 would/could go to?

Split level photography is near impossible indeed...I haven't found a solution yet for my Nauticam NA-EM1III housing. So if somebody has THE solution, please let me know.

Thanks heaps for yet another insightful episode. Could you please expand on your thoughts why you both wear away from rectinilar lens? Could you also touch on briefly comparison between fisheye vs rectiliniar? I have 7-14mm lens that I have used for land photos a bit and will take it underwater hopefully soon and would love hear both of your thoughts. Thanks heaps once again!

I know we touch on this in another episode but i cannot remember which at the moment. Personally, I enjoy fisheye as it gives you the absolute widest possible view, and the barrel distortion over emphasizes parts of the frame which can be beneficial depending on subject matter. That aesthetic isn't to everyone's taste, though. The rectilinear lenses give a more 'natural' look as they dont distort the image the same way a fisheye does. Typically, fisheyes also perform better behind dome ports than rectilinear lenses do in terms of optical performance

the 30 is better with blackwater shoots than the 60 generally.. Little faster on focus, easier to get stuff in front with wider perspective and closer focus and gives 2.5x macro in FF equiv vs the 2x of the 60. I have 2 and one is good, the other as sharp as my 60.

Has anyone here tried prime lenses like the 12mm olympus for 4/3?

  • 23 күн бұрын

Yes, I have...for a few years. Works great, also behind the mini dome port. But I'd rather use the 12-40mm f2.8 PRO now. Downside of the zoomlens is the big domeport. Downside of the 12mm prime is that it actually doesn't really focus well on short distances. But it's a nice to have lens.
