Best UK Shares For Your ISA

I've analysed the top 350 UK companies to select shares which have 'everything'. They not only pay decent dividends of 3% or greater, but grow the dividends for at least the last 7 years in a row and also show an index-beating share price growth over the last 5 years. I look at individual companies, Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITS) and other investment trusts. These companies could be considered for inclusion in a Stocks and Shares ISA.

Great analysis as ever! It's pretty shocking how badly the UK equities market has performed in the last 5 years that a company with only 9.9% growth in 5 years can make this list. Most of the individual companies are still significantly down from their all time highs. While that suggests significant upside is possible, it highlights another worrying trend that UK companies prioritise dividends over re-investment. The UK is crying out for both government and private investment to get out of this rut of anaemic growth in the market as a whole!

You put it nicely. If a backward looking sensible test finding the best investments of a style over five years doesn’t give one single name that doubles your money!!!! Honestly this makes me think this is NOT a style worth following even though it seems sensible. Of course switch it around this terrible performance could improve going forward……

Nice update shame 3I GROUP PLC did not make it. I now moving over to Investment Trusts which pay quarterly. The compound model of these Investment Trusts seems comparable to your list (CTY/ATST and so on). I bought into Reits PHP/HICL/ASG as interest falls in the coming year the share price should move on an upward trend( seems Cycle but to interest rates from Historical Research). There are a lot of Dividend Kings/Aristocrats within the FTSE market, Would be interesting maybe to cover those that seem outside your broader view on the Investing model. Happy Investing

I decided to defer my investing in individual companies to reduce the disastrous effects of my hopeless decisions and instead bought an ETF. I went for the Wisdom tree UK Quality Dividend Growth (UGRW). So far so good. Think you are right about the UK stocks being due a good year. They are very good value relative to those in the US, and the government seems to have realised the damage they have done and started to address this. Well done, good video.

Just a thought, you could consider including total returns on the graphics as well as the capital appreciation and dividend yield. For me, I’m going to weigh up the risk/reward of investing in a British company that’s tax advantaged, versus a non British that’s not tax advantaged. An after tax foreign investment could still be a better route to take.

Entertaining and informative video once again! I have one of those listed (NG) and the others look good picks. However I'm wondering whether to focus more on an ETF, such as IUKD which yields upwards of more than 5% and provides good diversification. Also at the moment I am a little bit pessimistic about the prospects of growth from the FTSE and wonder if a second investment strand concentrating on world markets might be better for growth.

I like a mixture of both single shares and ETFs. A lot of new money these days goes into the S&P500. I’ve looked a ISF v IUKD and there is a clear difference in long term total return. ISF easily outperforms IUKD and that’s the reason I don’t have IUKD. ISF pays a decent enough dividend anyway

It's a cool video, and as a fan of £FSV I approve this message. ;). I also think £THRG should get some love, if £FSV is UK value then £THRG is UK quality. It has a lot of dividend growth potential in small and medium sized holdings. Also, a bit surprised to not see £PHNX in here? Not quite enough history? Recent results were very decent, and they have a fat dividend whilst looking undervalued to me.

Not a really scientific approach at all, just when I see a large cap company suffer a huge fall and I ask myself will this company survive and recover or is it heading for oblivion. I bought plenty of Shell and BP shares at the start of the pandemic and made significant gains when the price recovered. Often there is an overreaction after some bad news forcing the shares even lower. A recent example is National Grid which fell 10% on the news it was launching a rights issue, then the next day it fell another 10% with no new news emerging at all. I considered that an over reaction and so I immediately used some reserve funds and bought more NG shares and will continue to do so if it falls further.

If a Labour government comes to power could they fine water companies and halt their dividends until they stop releasing raw sewage into rivers and sort out the root cause of the problem? 3. Drax's renewable energy claim is misleading. They burn wood pellets for their energy generation and call it renewable as they believe the forests can be regrown at the same pace as they're being cut down

1-England and Wales became the only countries in the world to have a fully privatized water and sewage disposal system. Wales is classed as a cooperative company. The water sewage issue is not UK-based but happens in EVERY country. 2-The government can not presently get involved as each Industry has its watchdog Consumer Council for Water. 3-Biomass pellets are used widely as a new green energy fuel, which is mainly used as a substitute for fossil fuels. They provide sustainable fuel, producing low levels of carbon and being highly combustible - ideal for heating industrial facilities. (Labour Councils have granted) Compound Investor is listing companies that have shown growth and a dividend, not ESG thinking.

@@Calder1169 I think it's overblown because rivers and rainwater has always naturally run into rivers. And this is literally how the systems where built - to discharge overflow into the rivers. As far as I can tell, no human has suffered in any way due to this design, and realistically they would have to raise bills higher to find some solution, such as big tanks, and really, would the government even allow them to do that? Is there land available just for tanks? How big would those tanks really be? A river can actually move a HUGE amount of water in a minute - let alone a day. Is this even possible to "fix"? I don't persoanlly see any damage or reasons to believe this should be dealt with in any way different to the current one. I don't want higher bills and honestly, I don't think a solution (which would of course produce massive amounts of Co2 to build and maintain) would actually work anyway. Probably

Would that not indicate that using higher % growth over 5 years as an indicator would mean you’re potentially looking at a peak in share value? I’m honestly a novice but I would tend to look at companies that have showed a recent downturn as better value but I do understand it could be more risky as the company may be in dire straights.

Sure I agree with you. It’s like driving a car using the rear view mirror only. Nobody knows what the future holds. I’ve also bought companies with a long term share price growth like Croda only to see it start a never ending downward decline. I guess the moral of the story is to have diversity in your portfolio across many regions and sectors so if some companies do poorly, others will do well. So what you’re saying is the majority of these shares over the last 5 years have barely kept up with inflation. £1000 in 2018 is £1248 today. So you’ve made roughly £200-300 on average for these shares over 5 years. £50-60 a year per £1000 invested. That’s pitiful. By the time you’ve saved and invested £100,000 (which you’d need to earn about £150,000 before tax for) just to get a measly £6000 in return you could’ve retrained in a whole different field and earned so much more. I’ll always tell people - you’re better off investing in yourself and increase your earning potential (obviously you can still invest on the side but not a priority). Don’t know what it is about people in the uk but they rarely want to retrain or get better education/certification/licences after they are established in a field, compared to Americans anyway which are always going back to school to further themselves.

@@TheCompoundingInvestor personally wouldn’t feel comfortable having that much money tied up. It’s tax free until it isn’t. Tax laws will only get more stringent. Better off moving to a tax free country, high earnings then invest what you don’t need. For example, lots of UK pilots/ATC jumped on the opportunity to move to the Middle East when the aviation sector was growing there. UK has a high taxation, expensive housing and low earning potential problem. For someone who doesn’t own a house and is 25-35 I can’t recommend it. And I don’t see it getting better. I have seen your other videos since I was interested. But I’ve chosen to go a different route.
